Some asked my technique for air fryer wings in the cooking thread and I wanted to share some knowledge after this weekend.

Air fryer buffalo wings are fantastic. I can get them to taste just like a restaurant. I decided to make a buffalo chicken sandwich with chicken breast, and after a few attempts, I think I've got it down.

The first tip is when it comes to your particular air fryer, I would use the manual's recommended time and temp for whatever meat you're cooking. The second tip is to PRE HEAT the air fryer. I'd at least 5 minutes. My air fryer is a Ninja. It was $100 on Amazon. Nothing fancy.

Buffalo Wings:

Thaw wings then pad down with a paper towel. Sprinkle salt and pepper on each side of the wings. Spray oil (I use avocado oil) into the air fryer. Pre heat air fryer (I use 375) for 5 minutes. Place wings in the air fryer with room in between each wing. Spray a little oil onto the wings. Cook for 12 minutes. Flip. Cook additional 12 minutes. From here you can cook another up to 5-7 min at a higher temp closer to 400 degrees to get the extra crisp.

Melt butter into Frank's Red Hot Buffalo wing sauce and add garlic powder and minced garlic. Toss wings in the sauce and serve.

Buffalo Chicken Sandwhich:

Marinate tenderized chicken breast in buttermilk and pickle juice for at least 30 minutes. In a mixing bowl mix together four, garlic powder, salt, pepper, paprika, and some confection sweetener. I may try sugar on my next attempt. This is where I would look at what your air fryer's manual recommends as far as temp and cook time for chicken. I set to 375 for 17 minutes, flip and cook another 5-8 minutes. My manual says 18-22 minutes at 375 for two 1- 1.5lbs chicken breasts. Take chicken breast out and toss in buffalo sauce and assemble your sandwich.

My sandwich is on a Brioche bun. Mayo, few dill pickle chips, cheddar cheese and lettuce.

Enjoy.

Is that the 6qt one? I saw an Instant Pot model but it didn't look like it had a slide out tray. Instant Pot makes some great stuff.

French Fries:

Rousette potato cut into french fry shapes. Soak in cold water for 1 hour. Dry. Toss in salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc. Spray with oil. Cook about 15 min on 375 shaking the basket every so often. Cook a final 5-7 minutes on 400 and give the fries another spray of oil.

I have Ninja as well. Preheat 3 minutes at highest temp. Mine has a Max Crisp feature, 450 degrees. Put in 1lb costco party wings. Spray with oil. Shake a little salt and pepper on them and return basket. Open up every 5-ish minutes and give a good shake of the basket. This is an easy step but is key for an even cook/crisp. I use tongs to space them towards the end of the cook so they are perfect on all sides. When they are brown and crispy, put in bowl with Frank’s Wing Sauce and stir around. Do them dang near every weekend and they’re great.

This thread got me motivated to try the frozen wings stuffed in the back of the freezer. May have been the worst tasting, slimy, soft, grotesque **** I've ever attempted to consume. Right up there with boiled okra.

That's actually why I got the air fryer. I wanted some good wings I could cook at home. The ones in the freezer blow rhino. Get the Tyson skinless wings and do your thing.

I followed these directions exactly, I improved the wings by throwing them into a boiling vat of oil at the end.

There is NO SUBSTITUTE for finishing the wings in boiling animal fat. Do not trust anyone who attempts to tell you otherwise.

I don’t have an air fryer and I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this question but can you fry catfish in one of these as well/good as a deep fryer with with canola oil?
I would think not and probably wouldn’t even try it but...
With that said, what’s everyone’s home fried catfish recipe, (filets, whole, cornmeal cornmeal/fish fry mix, etc) and cooking vessel used ?

Monitor the wings and spray oil on them along the way if you need to. Mine are super crispy and no need to submerge in oil.

You do use some oil. Just don't submerge it. Spray some oil on it throughout the air frying process and I think you'll be surprised.

i'm going to try that ninja on some wings tomorrow. i feel like it's similar to my oil less turkey fryer. I found that spraying the turkey with oil gives it more of that real fried crisp and taste.

There is a small country grocery store in Kilmicheal, Greenlees. If ever in the area, get some of his un-breaded wings, they are huge and already marinated. Stick in the air fryer and they will be the best you've ever had. He also has good pork chops and ribeyes.
