If we can’t block 3 with 5, Pat Mahomes wouldn’t succeed behind this OL... to me we have to come out and change the OL splits... we could fix that in one week.

He’s not going to. That’s part of his scheme. When he was at Oklahoma they changed that but when he went to tech he did what he wanted.

No doubt, but I’d be shocked if we changed our splits. Does anyone know how many QB hurries we allowed last night, because it seemed like quite a few?

Rogers looked like he could move a little. Maybe that’s something we can build off of and take some pressure off our OL.

3 certainly seems to be less than 5. However the number 3 is pretty close to looking like the number 8 if you close the loops and if you close the loop on a 5 it only becomes a 6.

There’s our problem**

He has shortened the splits before. I think they mentioned it in the broadcast. Clearly it's screwing with our lineman. I refuse to believe that it's simply talent. With a three man rush our QB's should be able to make a sandwich back there before having to throw.

His splits do change, but there will always be splits. There is a reason for that. Throwing lanes.

This 100%. Rush 3 should mean 2 things: All day to throw and gashing runs.

The announcer last night even said he could count on one hand the times he saw drop 8 in his career. Why is that? Because it's too easy to defeat. If it was some miracle defense, then everyone would run it. We should be able to gain 4 yards minimum against drop 8. 4 times 3 is 12, first down.

Our issues against drop 8:
1 - Opponents are getting pressure with 3. Can't happen. Under pressure, KJ either throws it up for an INT or gets called for intentional grounding or fumbles.
2 - KJ gets impatient with the drop downs and throws into coverage for an INT.
3 - Leach won't punish them with the run until they start adding players to the defensive front.

We have two players on offense doing nothing. Our guards are just watching the game while defenses play 2 more safeties. The Mesh plays right into the defenses hands. Two receivers go against 3 LBs and allows them to play shallow to protect against the run as well. So, our outside WRs try to get open against 5 defenders (1 LB watches the RB).

But that’s where our lack of execution really hurts. We see a lot of drives go:

4 yard gain
5 yard gain
3 yard gain (1st down)
4 yard gain
DROP
4 yard gain
Punt

When it isn’t a drop, it might be a hands to the face, or a sack, or a pressure that causes Costello to get rid of the ball too early.

I get what you're saying, but what is the answer? Nobody runs that defense for more than a couple plays, so it is not unbeatable.
