Like every season, I pull for State to win every game. But my realistic prediction pre-season was 5-5. Revised prediction, 8-2 with a very wooly attitude that we have a legit shot in all of them.

My preseason prediction was 6-4 and I knew what FPI was saying about us was garbage. But I'm going to hold off on dramatically changing my prediction until we find out just how good LSU really is.

I calked for State by 10 based on that I thought LSU lost way too much to come out as #6 in the country. After watching how much we left on the field(a lot) and seeing Auburn and A&M struggle I could see 7 or 8 wins realistically if the players don't get the big head. Bama and Georgia are the only teams we should lose to and who knows if we keep improving.

The good news is that a road win against a team like LSU now brings the possibility of wins against A&M and Auburn into play. The bad news for me is that I don’t know that there are any complete pushovers amongst Ark, Vandy, OM, or KY.

Maybe I’ll feel a lot different after this weekend if we somehow do end up steamrolling the hogs, but I think we’re going to have to be ready to battle every weekend this year. It’ll be real interesting to see how the team responds after this emotional high.

I was at 4-6 before the season, and I think I’ll flip to 6-4 for now

Edited to add: the fact that we just beat the defending national champs in week 1, yet still have 4 more Top 15 teams to play in a 10 game schedule just makes my head hurt. If the CFP is seriously going to stick with just 4 teams this year, there are going to be some undefeated teams out there that should be trumped by a 1 loss SEC team

I predicted 4-6 with a chance for 5-5 preseason. I now think we should win at least 6 & have a shot at 7. It is just too much of a stretch for me to think we will win all of Auburn, A & M, and Kentucky and we will be big underdogs against Bama & Georgia.

That's the case pretty much every year.

They should be trumped by a 2-loss SEC team. It is going to be difficult for even Bama to walk out a 10 game SEC schedule without 2 losses.
Georgia, LSU, Florida and even we could lose three games this year and still be one of the best 4 teams in the nation when it's all over.
The National Championship will be meaningless this year.
UNLESS we win it, of course. Then it will be the most meaningful year in college football history.

I hate to get too far ahead of myself cause so much stuff changes week to week with college football.

Preseason - I was in the 4-6 or 5-5- camp.

After this first game, which I was almost positive it would be a loss, I'm probably in the 7-3 camp. And I would say that we're are going to be in every game this year except the Bama one.

To show me that offense, that defense, and that special teams in game 1 of an entirely new coaching staff and system... Color me optimistic about our chances beating teams like Auburn, aTm, GA, and UK (I'm giving us 2 wins out of these 4) who all showed some weaknesses on offense this past weekend. I dont think Arky, Mizzou, Vandy, nor OM has enough defensive firepower to prevent us from getting 45+ each game.

I'm with you.

We will start seeing lots of zone and 3 man rushes. Bama can hurt us with that, maybe UGA (If UGA can find a QB, otherwise it will not matter)

It all comes down to injury luck. We are feisty but the wrong guys go down and we could be struggling to eek out 4 wins. Of course the inverse is just as true. A little injury luck the other way and the sky's the limit.

Preseason 4-6. Now I’ll predict 6-4 but you could make a reasonable case for 7-3 if the cards fall right.

One thing I will say that is exciting is we have some kind of realistic shot in EVERY game. Our offense gives us a chance if the D can hold up. I wouldn’t predict us to beat Bama or UGA, but we will absolutely not concede those games either. Anything can happen.

Every team's season can be derailed by the wrong injury, but I feel like we are more vulnerable than most.

We can have injuries at WR and it not be catastrophic. Maybe one OL? Maybe a DL (although depth is so important that would still hurt pretty badly). If we lose a CB or safety or the wrong LB, do we replace them with SEC quality?

Sitting at 6-4 currently but ask me again after the Kentucky game (assuming we take care of business against the Hogs like we should). UK presents some matchup problems for us that I'm concerned about. If we are able to handle them then I will feel like 7 or 8 wins is definitely possible. If that's a major struggle for us then I'm going to stay in the 5 or 6 win range probably.

I wills say that the only game I feel 100% sure we aren't winning is Bama. Every other game I feel like we have at least a small chance in, even the one in Athens.
