After 6 months of working on the front lines, I finally came down with COVID-19 on Monday. Doctor put me on Zithromax and Dexamethasone.

Monday felt like early flu symptoms. Had slight temp, little bit of a dry cough, sore throat, nausea, body aches, fatigue. Yesterday felt more like a head cold. Wife - who has no symptoms and feels fine - tested negative yesterday, but my daughter (who I take to school daily but lives with her mom) tested positive yesterday after waking up with a cough and congestion. She was put on an OTC “COVID cocktail” of Zyrtec, Pepcid, and several vitamins.

I’m 38 years old, a little overweight (5’11”, 215#) and type 2 diabetic so fingers crossed this doesn’t get any worse for me or my daughter (who thankfully is a healthy 13 year old).

I’ll keep you guys updated if you care for that or if anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to answer.

We are all hopeful you and your family will be healthy again very soon with few complications. Take it easy and enjoy your weekend at home watching the dogs kick the hell out of LSU.

Try to take walks after dark if you feel good enough. Apparently exercise helps fight off the effects of the virus.

Continued prayers for you recovery. Stay hydrated and move as much as possible. Rest of course, but stir around as much as possible. Hopefully you will shake with with no other symptoms other than what you are experiencing now.

Interesting you would say that. I read an article about a young female runner that suggested just the opposite. She tried to continue her exercise and it nearly killed her. Maybe intensity level? Or maybe it was gonna nearly kill her anyway? This is an odd virus...

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

This virus is going to wreak havoc this winter during cold and flu season. Not that I expect it to come raging back, although it could. But the fact that 90% of people are going to wake up one morning with a runny nose and a cough. Most of the time everyone would just take a shot of cold medicine and head on out to work or school. But do you do that now? Most places say stay home if you feel sick. If everyone does that when they wake up with a sniffle then nobody will be at work this winter. We all have runny noses and things of that nature in December and January.

Just goes to show us how little we know about it. Yet everyone seems to know EXACTLY how it works.

The way everyone is talking about this is like someone telling you their "internet doesn't work" and have 8 seconds or 90 characters to access and fix it. It's impossible. We know so little about it, yet we use memes to explain it away.

It's impossible for this generation to admit they don't know enough.

Wishing you a speedy recovery it's not a fun journey. During my bout with the china virus the best thing I did was keep an open dialog with my Dr about my condition. Pay attention to your lungs being diabetic if you are having trouble breathing reach out to your Dr. I was having trouble breathing then started coughing up blood. If my Dr had not ordered me to go to the ER at that time I may not be here today.

Not trying to be a wiseass but you needed your doctor to tell you to go the the ER when you started coughing up blood?

Prayers for speedy and full recovery.
I’ve been taking 1500-2000 Mg of Vitamin C and 50 Mg Zinc daily since April trying to help me not get it. So far so good🙏

Really sorry to hear that man, especially when it starts affecting family too.

If there’s any silver lining to times like this, it’s always cool to see just how many people are in your corner to fight through this type of BS. Best of luck to you, and keep us updated

It was back in late march and the hospital ER did not have exact protocols to deal with covid patients. If you showed up at the ER with covid symptoms back then you were basically turned away and shunned because you exposed everyone there. My Dr had to call the hospital and make them aware of my arrival.

Can your body absorb 1500 mg of vitamin c daily? I’m not trying to be a smart ***, it’s a legit question. I just know that is about 15x the daily recommendation.

I had a friend with a similar experience. He was pretty sick at home for 2-3 weeks back in March. ER sent him home twice.

It's gonna be an absolute roller coaster ride of ups and downs. I had it 2 months ago and every 2-3 days I would think It's Gone...then I would be right back dizzy with a headache. I still do not have my smell back all the way....I can smell sweet smells or foods, but here is the weird part, I can not smell bad smells like poop or when one of the kids passes gas LOL We have 3 kids 7-10 years old and when they poot in the car my is gaging and I just sit there unbothered. My taste has come back except for the grilled red meats. For some reason a steak is just not as appetizing as it use to be. I can't pinpoint what flavor is missing but its just bland reguardless of how I season it.
Good luck and get outside as much as you can. I feel like that helped me the most. My endurance was very low but the worse thing you can do is turn into a couch potato and throw a blood clot.

It’s water soluble, so u just pee out any excess. U can get too much vitamin D but not vit C. Recommendation for covid is about 1,000mg day of vit C, 50 mg zinc, and 2-3,000 units vit D. Pepcid may help as well.

I will second the sense of smell and taste. I haven't smelled a fart in 6 months its really odd. I can blow up the bathroom and not smell a thing. I feel like I've got my taste back but have trouble smelling a lot of things unless I have it right up at my nose. It seems like a lot artificial flavors or scents have an odd soapy or metallic taste / smell.

Don't you need to get some sunlight to fully get all of the benefits of the vitamins?

IF everybody stays at home when they feel sick, then not everybody will get a runny nose and a cough. We'll probably see a lot fewer flu and cold infections this year because of awareness of COVID. I tend to just go on as normal when I have cold symptoms without fever because I have sinus issues and probably 95% of the time when I have symptoms it's sinus issues that are not contagious (as far as I know, I've never passed a cold on to a coworker, but presumably at least one of those times I had a viral infection and actually passed it on), but this winter I'm sure I'll be working remotely if I have any symptoms just to not alarm anybody. I suspect that will be the case for most places that have liberal work at home policies.

There will probably be people positive with both the flu or cold and convid at the same time.

A week ago today, we had 31 employees at work, as of right now, we have 5. Covid is definitely contagious. So far, only 1 in the hospital. Unfortunately, I'm not one of the 5.

Sounds like your organization’s safety protocols are fairly lousy. Regardless of how contagious this virus apparently is, to allow that level of infection rate into your workplace is a failure of leadership.

It was a 17'ed up situation for sure. You heard stories on the local news but at that time the Baptist system was not prepared.

I'm glad you're okay. You probably got it from the guy spitting on your burger at Dimpus Burger. Maybe should've gotten the large fries for 25 cents more and you could've avoided the whole thing.

Appreciate you guys checking on me. Been meaning to post an update, but it was kind of a rough week.

Everything was going great last week. Felt like nothing more than a head cold. Then during the game Saturday, I started running a fever and kept spiking temps to 103 until Wednesday. Was also having body aches, dizziness, nausea, all the good stuff. I’ve finally gotten rid of the fever, but the coughing is worse today and still feeling tired.

My daughter was back to her normal self last Saturday and went back to school today. My wife (who tested negative last week) tested positive this week but so far she’s just been coughing. Fingers crossed she avoids the fever and symptoms that I had.

Loved watching the Air Raid last week. It made feeling like crap a little more tolerable. Hoping to see more of the same tomorrow! Thanks again for all the supportive responses. Hail State!

Coincidental that you bumped this thread as I was wondering the same thing.

Truly hoping he is doing well because of the extra risk factor of type 2 diabetes... Also, I didn't mind bumping a thread where I called for us kicking the hell out of LSU.
