DK Metcalf and AJ Brown are good NFL receivers. I passed on Metcalf in fantasy because he went to Ole Miss...stoopid move.

They’re both on good offenses. Especially Metcalf. Lockett can do damage, Carson is a good RB, Metcalf taking the top off and Wilson can make plays with the best of them.

I didn’t doubt those two.

I also stayed away from ole miss players in FF, but I don’t have any problems with their players doing well in the league. There are very few of them I continue to hate after they leave college.

How’s Breeland Speaks doing in the NFL? If it wasn’t for him DK and AJ would’ve been O-fer against MSU.

They obviously have character flaws though. They played for the Southern Plantation.

OM gets flack for how Treadwell and Nkemdiche's NFL careers turned out and rightfully so. But there have been some good NFL players from that school in recent years.

Not as many good players as we have produced... but there are some. AJ and DK are two of them.

But they still played for the Ole Miss.

Speaking of former enemies of MSU....Cam is also looking far better than expected. He’s much more accurate than I ever remember him being at Carolina.

Where are all these 'I stayed away from AJ and DK in fantasy' in the six pack leagues? I couldn't get either of them this year.

$30,000 away from national championship. Damn we are cheap.

I don't think we were willing to go $150k but not $180k. My understanding is it got shut down b/c Cam's dad was leaving voice mails with boosters he had never met before. Not sure if we would have come up with the $180k, but at least one person was willing to work on it and was told we weren't touching it.

That's not correct. We would have done what was necessary. The problem was Auburn, period. I hate it, but that's what it was. They had more talent, and 5 seniors on the offensive line, and Daddy Newton knew it. Not to mention they are from South Atlanta.

Paying is just part of the game with the top players. You have to pay to get your foot in the door, then you're still having to beat out the other schools. That discount might have been valid against Tennessee or Oklahoma, but when Auburn called, it was over.

You're saying we didn't try because it was Auburn we were competing with? I call ********. We'd never be willing to pay anybody if that were the case. We'd always be saying "can't compete with Auburn; can't compete with Bama; can't compete with LSU". Yes, we will lose out most of the time, but we obviously haven't quit trying to compete.

Also pretty sure the discount was offered explicitly in reference to Auburn's offer.

We were in it as much as anyone. We just wouldn't pay. The main money men said "no player is worth $180k" and shut it down. That tune has changed, but 10 years ago we were not up to date with the way the game was played.

I didn't say that. We definitely tried. But when Auburn came in, he was going there.

Would have AJ talent been wasted in Mullen's offense?
Nope. We actually might have won a national championship. Add Raekwon and it's very possible. Mullen janked up that 2016 class so bad. Both of those guys plus Knott and Lashley should have been at MSU from the beginning. Just straight lazy and a crap attitude.

His coaching was undeniable, though.

Not sure "wasted" is correct. I will say that Ole Miss absolutely rode their best players (in a good way), whereas Dan was all about spreading the ball around, regardless of whether we had one guy who was way better than the next man up. That was at every skill position. His substitution patterns made little sense to me. Best playmaker makes an awesome play and appears to be on fire, sub in the next guy. During that same time period, if Ole Miss had a guy just killing the other team, he barely got out for a break. Pretty sure Evan Engram beat us by himself one year. Short to mid slant. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I guess you'll believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want. But since the guy that told me was one of the guys trying to put the deal together, I'll take his word for it.

Dak Prescott is a good QB, Cox and Jones are good DL. But let's talk OM.

Did you see how Simmons saved the game for the Titans yesterday?

We are very very well represented in the league, with quality players at key positions. Can't wait to watch Abram tonight!

I would never not draft someone in fantasy football because of where they played college. The point is to win (usually $), and the best players help do that. I don't get it.

That was certainly a big part of it. I think that plus Auburn making it known they would not be outbid is what made a lot of our guys think the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. There was also a rumor that, on account of Cecil’s brash and cavalier desires, that Mullen was personally calling boosters and trying to shut down payments because he didn’t want the Hugh Freeze scarlet letter placed on him before his HC career ever got started, but that is less verifiable than the above.

It was always a straight up auction though....if our best offer was $180k and Auburn’s best was $181k, he was heading to Auburn (and vice versa if you switch the offers). AJ Brown was a similar situation....except there was of course more than one other school involved, and we gracefully bowed out much, much earlier in the process.

You are correct that we wouldn't pay, and that $180k was more than we were paying, but at least some of our money guys willing to put up money were told we weren't touching it. Maybe whoever communicates the priorities of the program had decided (or been told) that they wanted to save booster money for other priorities, but that's not the message they were giving out.

We did not try. Or at least we did not exhaust all avenues because there were people willing to pony up some money and at least try to get the full $180k that were told not to.

Mecalf reminds me of a young T.O. Who knows if he’ll ever reach that level, but he’s an absolutely freak athlete just like Owens which is extremely rare company

I forgot where AJ went to college the day my Titans drafted him. All wrongs have been forgiven.
