Anyone here with any experience in banks that will finance barndominiums/metal homes, etc? We are in Tuscaloosa area and having trouble finding someone that will finance our plans.

Regions has a portfolio product, but you'll need sales in the area of something similar.

Regions here said they do not finance metal buildings.

They'll do it. If sales of similar are available. I know someone that built their own. Went portfolio. But small, local banks shouldn't have much trouble if they have an alternate lending program. Gotta be an in-house product.

Cadence, Regions, and Trustmark all do them in east central MS. Should do it over there, less than 100 miles away.

If you haven't called Trustmark that would be my first call.

Redstone Federal CU does some unconventional loans in the auto business, so they may do the same for home building.

JTS and Company in Columbus just refinanced mine. Jeff is a great guy and he has financed several barndominiums he said. Mine is a 1700 square feet mostly open rustic lake house.

Buddy of mine built one a few years ago and used the local Farm Credit branch and loved it. Switched all of his personal and business accounts over to them after wards. Looks like they do barndos in Alabama too.

There is an Alabama Ag Credit location in Tuscaloosa that is part of the Farm Credit network and they specifically call out barndominium loans on their website.

Should be able to take care of everything you need right there in town.

We used Alabama Ag Credit for an unconventional loan with acreage a few years back but used the Demopolis office. Ask for Meagan McElroy. State Grad.

ETA don't bother with Cadence in AL, we've banked with them since they were NBC, but they've given us nothing but a runaround on loans. Bancorp South has a loan office on Queen City Avenue, ask for Amy Williams, did our refinance through her; professional and hassle free.

For your barndominium, did you use a contractor for the whole process? Or sub out the building yourself and then hire someone to finish it out?

Check out First South Farm Credit in Northport. I work in a different location and have financed several bardominiums. PM if you have any questions.

You can’t go wrong with the MS land bank.

The guy in Starkville is legit. They make a lot of loans to good people.
