Has Sweden returned from their summer homes?

The virus ran its course.... if Sweden had taken better care of the vulnerable at the beginning, their numbers would really look better than everyone else.

They come back right about now. Like a said, if their numbers are still down at the end of September then y'all have a point. Y'all are still misunderstanding what they actually did. They didn't mandate anything but they actually voluntarily followed most of the stuff we didn't even when mandated. They also suffered as much economically as the rest of Scandinavia, at a much greater human cost.

Did the Swedish Bikini team survive the Carona?

I don’t know? But let’s use some of L4’s logic on mask mandates.

What can I infer from these charts?

Masks since May 1...

View attachment 17535

California? Hmmmm

View attachment 17536

Kentucky.. another one of those southern states where cases went down after the mandate.. oh wait

View attachment 17537

And let’s not for get isolationist Hawaii

View attachment 17538

Certainly using L4’s logic, masks actually increase the spread********

Obviously I don’t believe that, but I just get a kick out of the fact he denies there is much more evidence that “level of exposure“ is a much more common factor in locations where cases start their sustainable decline.

What I took from this post:

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who gets rather random strange ads, like women's apparel, on that side banner.

You need to get facts and logic the hell outta here and start following science. Did you even take a science class in school?**

I'm not convinced Sweden was in the wrong by any means (in fact, I lean towards it probably being better than what we did), but before the pro-Sweden contingency takes a victory lap, shouldn't the death totals of their neighbors need to catch up to them?

5,813 deaths is nearly 5x the deaths in Finland, Norway, and Denmark combined. What am I missing here?

(I swear I mean that as a genuine question, and it may have been answered many times over. I don't read every thread on this topic.)

This is, and always was, an argument against government-instituted mandates. If another country did better than we did with the things that actually matter without any mandates, then that's all the more reason we shouldn't have mandated anything. As soon as the government mandates something, it inherently turns it political.

Sweden is about the same size at North Carolina.

Sweden has reported 87k cases, 5800 deaths
N. Carolina reports 167k cases, 2700 deaths.

was Sweden not testing much? Cause it sure does have a much higher percentage of fatalities

It’s been 4 weeks minimum since you made your 2 week proclamation.
No, I said give it 4 weeks from they when they all get back from holiday. The four weeks begins this week. I see why y'all come up with the stuff you do now. You don't half read even what you are arguing against. At the end of September if their numbers are staying down then that will indeed be good news.

They didn't test as much. The death toll is the ultimate measure.

Well, here the mandate certainly increased mask wearing.

I think what happened is that they didn't mandate some basic things involving nursing homes. Their response is under investigation by their own government.

A google search says Swedish schools started back two weeks ago. Where are you getting this?
It's just knowledge of how they live there. I've been there. They all get something like six weeks. Most of them take it sometime between July 1 and August 31, just like most of the rest of Europe. Whatever the timing the summer holiday is over now.

Nope. Been back 2 weeks and kids are in school
Nope, they aren't all off at the same time. Not all of them have kids in school you know. They mostly take their 6 weeks in July and August. We all agree they are back starting this week. I said 4 weeks from the first of September. Again, I'll be VERY happy if you guys are right. I don't want to be right.

They have more dead per capita than we do and WAY more than their Scandinavian neighbors. Their economy took as big a hit as ours.

According to this ( https://www.thelocal.se/20180605/so-why-do-the-swedes-take-such-long-summer-holidays ), they get 4 weeks, not 6, and most try to sync their holiday up with schools' summer vacation, which according to this ( https://www.thelocal.se/20200811/wh...out-sending-your-children-to-school-in-sweden ), ended 2 weeks ago.

And they are about where we are deaths per millions. They are also averaging less than one a day. Others are catching up even while still masking and living under lockdown.

Make a fair comparison. Look at the countries that are similar to them in climate, demographics, and lifestyle. In other words Norway, Finland, and Denmark.

Best comment of the thread. The women's apparel side ads are super odd.

Just going by what actual Swedes told me. Perhaps your google knows more than them. They don't all have kids in school you know. I'm out on this till the end of September. By all means bring up again then. If they stay down then I will be very happy to be wrong. That would be very good news.

Sweden’s death tolls are high because they did not protect the vulnerable early in the process...
Nobody did, including us. I don't know why you are trying to minimize it. That is exactly what proponents of the herd immunity argument are calling for, whether they know it or not. You are not going to keep it out of nursing homes forever no matter what you do. The only way you could do it is place all the people who work there in a bubble with the patients and not let them out. That isn't feasible and you would still have to have delivers and medical transfers both in and out. We had fearsome nursing home outbreaks in my area very early on; many, many dead. They got them contained and then eliminated for a while by taking draconian steps. It came back and remains at a lower level, and is still killing. They never let up on the draconian steps. If there is spread in the community it WILL get into nursing homes. We won't even get into the vulnerable who are still working members of the community. The only way to protect the vulnerable is to limit community spread as much as possible. The idea that we can somehow build a fence around those people while the rest of us can carry on like we did in 1919 is a non-starter. This is NOT arguing for lockdowns. We can't do that forever. We can mask up, be smart, distance, and take the vaccine as soon as we are able. Hopefully we can find a sure fire treatment eventually, but that is a slim hope and one that will take a lot longer than a vaccine.

We can also hope nobody else takes the Cuomo approach and send a bunch of people with Covid back into nursing homes all over the state. How many lives did that move by itself cost?
