Wiki says that he was diagnosed with colon cancer all the way back in 2016 but did not share it publicly. 43 seems young for colon cancer, but I suppose it can happen at any time.

This is just horrible. Loved that guy as an actor, certainly praying for his family and loved ones. He had some amazing performances on screen that impacted a lot of people in a very positive way, and he was a young guy that would've starred in a lot more huge movies. What a horrible year this has been.

That’s a bummer. Don’t know anything about him personally, but I loved him in Black Panther. He’s one of my kid’s favorite superheroes. Gone far too young.

It can. I was very close to having it that age. Started having some issues and had a colonoscopy. Doctor said I had a huge polyp that was very close to turning. Don't ignore symptoms. It can happen at any age.

Yes please!!! Do not ignore symptoms. I did not go to the doctor from the age of 20 to 38. My family has no history of any cancers outside of skin cancer and they all live to see at least their mid 80’s. My digestion changed a little when I turned 38 so I went through a bunch of screenings then eventually a colonoscopy. I had 13 polyps. I went last January, 4 years later, I had 8 more. Do not ignore changes, it could be nothing but it checking on it could save your life!

2020 can go 17 off

ExactY words I said to my wife this morning. Had to put my 14 year old dog down this morning. Because of COVID only one person allowed in the room.

Apologies if my spelling is bad. Hard In to the liquor and can’t see the screen.

My mom passed away in May, unrelatedly to COVID, but the funeral was limited to family only, rather than the huge crowd she would have had otherwise. But I feel you on losing your dog. Had to put down my best friend two years ago. Worse feeling than my divorce.

Had my colonoscopy back in the fall. It’s amazing how much they improved the prep from just five years ago. This one was simple and painless. There is no sleep better than a post colonoscopy nap.

I had Colon Cancer at 34... if you ever start passing blood, have lower abdominal pain... etc... go get it checked out... I had one tumor the size of a golf ball, luckily caught it early...cut out about 8 inches of Colon, reconnected me and haven’t had even one polyp since (18 years ago).

I’m ashamed to say that I wasn’t very familiar with Chadwick Bozeman. I don’t watch a lot of movies, and was sadly just passingly award of him. Seeing the videos of him posted on social media in the last 18 or so hours has made me realize what a loss for me that was to have not followed his life. I know we all wax poetic when someone dies, but just watching the way he spoke to others, the kindness he shared, and what he meant to so many people, just wow, man... and to think of all that he did the last 4 years while battling 17ing cancer!! And he didn’t tell anyone. That’s a hero.

If I could be rude enough to ask - what are symptoms that I should pay attention to? I recognize that’s probably not an easy question to answer, but I’m in that same age range and my family has a history of cancer.

I could go Google it, I know, but then my mind will be convinced I’ve got it. Thank you for sharing your story.

Brutally honest I had some reoccurring pain but nothing severe, but 2 times a week I would be Harry from Dumb and Dumber all day. Just diarrhea for no apparent reason. The first go around I had diverticulosis so it was definitely worse. The second go around I just started having diarrhea more and more. One thing I’ll point out the first time I had the scope it was diagnostic so I paid $1400 out of pocket. The second time, even though I was short of my 5 year window(I have a shorter window because of the polyps) they submitted it as preventative and insurance paid 100%. But even when they submitted it my doctor said there is no guarantee they’ll pay it. If you have issues I don’t want to tell you to delay going to save money, but if you are a month away from a normal screening age it might be worth it.

This is crazy news.

I read something about the next black panther and replacing him and was surprised reading that. He did such a great job. Guess it makes sense now.

Rest In Peace brother.

Yep. Get scoped as often as you can. It's a cancer that is easily treatable if caught early, and it can be caught early. I had some issues when I was younger and have a colonoscopy every 5 years. It's really not that big of a deal. Day off work, good clean drugs. And the day before prep has come a long way.

My doc whispered to me that if you complain of abdominal pain to him insurance is more likely to pay if you're not otherwise due for one.

Had mine a year and a half ago. Wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought. Honestly, the part that scared me the most was going without food for 36 hours, but other than feeling a little bloated from the broth you can have, that wasn't really a problem. There are 2 kinds of prep, one that's covered by insurance and one that costs about $60. Pay the $60. I did and it's worth it.

This hits home because I just had a colonoscopy due to some symptoms. Anemia and positive occult stools. I ended up having pre-cancerous polyps, and I'm only in my 30s. So I have to start having colonoscopies every 5 years now. Just kind of shook me because I almost didn't do those stool cards they send you home with.

If you're too young to have a colonoscopy, the best thing you can do is get a primary care doctor and get your once a year checkup. That's how I ended up getting a colonoscopy and having pre-cancerous polyps removed. My doctor did my yearly labs and saw that I was
more anemic than usual. So he sent me home with those stool cards to see if you have blood in your stool. I almost didn't do them, but thank goodness I did. All 3 came back positive, so the next step was a colonoscopy. All of that from simply going to my yearly checkup. They do a lot of screening stuff at those checkups. You can also buy those stool cards at CVS or Walgreens.

This is why I've not gotten one done yet....My health insurance is pitiful so this procedure will be 100% on me but I know I need to have it done. I'll be 52 in November and should have had one a couple of years ago. So much for that new over/under I was about to purchase for dove season.

Most places will work with you and put you on a payment plan. Mine was like something like 1600.00, and they let me pay 100.00 a month.
