Hard to say - I always thought UVA was an interesting choice if it was purely a football decision.

I have no problem with him wanting to play QB though and trying to find a place where he could have a chance at starting.

He just isn't a very good quarterback. Especially for any system that isn't Mullen's. We won despite him against Louisville and he single handedly lost the OM game in 2017. He was a freshman that had no business playing but he had done nothing since then to warrant people thinking he was a good player. Being able to hit the broad side of a barn is a prerequisite for the position in almost every college offense today.

I feel for him a little. Had Mullen stayed, he might have become the next solid Mullen QB. The previous staff was a joke and cost him a couple years.

I do think Mullen could’ve developed him into a good player. But I never understood the perception that some had the last two years that we would’ve been better of with KT at QB. He had one pretty good half against a Peter Sirmon defense and people thought he was the next Dak. I give him the benefit of the doubt for the Egg Bowl since he was a true freshman thrust into a tough situation, and he wasn’t great against Louisville but did make some clutch plays for a true freshman in a bowl game against another decent team.

The Stephen F. Austin game was when I realized there was a problem though. He did put up a lot of total yards on them, but 13-31 passing against an awful defense was alarming. He missed wide open receiver after wide open receiver.

I do too. We talk about loyalty and that guy stayed here as long as he possibly could. I think he loved this university.

Thompson was the type of guy who would have been good under Mullen as a redshirt junior and senior, i.e. this year. He just wasn't ready to play before now. Just bad timing overall. Should have never been forced to play in 2017.

Could have been Ralf 2.0 if Mullen had stayed. He is still in good shape with a bachelors degree at MSU and with the Covid rules could probably get a Doctorate on UVA’s dime

In his defense - the other guy has had a couple of years in their system even if he hasn't played much. KT is coming in new without a spring practice, trying to learn his third offense in 4 years. Time will tell.

From what I read, KT seems to be more athletic, but the other QB knows the system and busts his *** competing.

No, no, no....he is a great quarterback and Jomo just refused to play him because he wanted to play HIS guy, not the best quarterback****. Obviously he isn't a very good quarterback. But i remember all those comments when he was riding the bench behind GS.

Absolutely. Never understood people's desire to **** all over him. Moorhead was a disaster hire for his development and Nicks. He was doomed when Mullen left. Moorhead knows crap about qb development and cost Thompson and Fitz money. Mullen could have developed him in to a solid qb. Let's not forget what he did with Relf and Thompson was way more more talented. Leach prefers more of a pocket passer but is more of a developer like Mullen just a different style. I'm happy that we are getting back to a development type program again. And DC you can't convince me otherwise that with the right coaching he wouldn't have been better than Tommy boy and Shrader at that point his career last year. Moorhead played his favorites. Hell Tommy could have been better had he had a coach to tell him when to release the ball. Mullen or leach could have probably made him a solid qb.

Well he essentially has 3 years of eligibilty left. He can still win the job or take over if the guy ahead of him gets hurt. He could even transfer again if he wants to.

Does it say anything at all that Mullen didn't pick up a guy tailor made for his system when Thompson was in the portal? It's not like Mullen has a full stable of highly touted QB's down there...

This. Mullen had a chance to sign him at UF and didn't. That tells me something.
