Perhaps that's it. But, I'd really like to hear from someone who has lived both north of the Mason Dixon line and in the South. Maybe that's you Bruce, I don't know. I've always felt while the South is painted as a Racial Dystopia it is much more integrated than the North. As in we all grew up together, having different experiences of course, but still in the same schools, churches, neighborhoods, localities (malls, the cruising strip, etc.) jobs, et al, relatively speaking.

I fully admit I could be way, way off here.

Generalizations get tricky since there are a seemingly endless number of actual examples that refute the generalizations.

The South went/goes to school together? Private schools were literally created to avoid going to school together and to this day, many(most?) that I have read about are still extremely segregated.

The South went/goes to church together? Mmmmm, that isnt worth getting into its so incorrect.

Sure there is some integration in the white private schools, integration into the black public schools, and churches. That togetherness is 1- minimal and 2- often by need instead of choice with regard to school.

I grew up in the Chicago burbs with an absurdly high % of minorities(culturally and/or racially). Indian, Pakistani, LatinX, Asian, Eastern Euro Balkans, and some black. The kids all played sports together, after 1st generation housing was not very unified and so neighborhoods were culturally mixed, and schools were heavily mixed(both public and religious private).

I cant pretend to speak on any other areas of the country except for where I have lived and currently live.
I wouldn't ever claim the Deep South is well integrated.

Exactly - the truth is that very, very few things should get you shot by a police officer. And other than firing a weapon at them, most of the time it starts with disobeying commands and resisting arrest.

I really hope this wasn't a cop just flying off at the handle though.

But just disobeying an order is not a capital offense. It's not even a felony. It's a second-degree misdemeanor. That the same , legally, in Mississippi as a first DUI, Hazing or disturbing the peace, and we'd be outraged if MSHP started executing people on the side of the road, campus police started shooting the Pike's and SigEp's every fall, or breaking up parties with gunshots.

How much business does your company do with China?

Would you speak out against the companies largest client as a company spokesman?

Or would you toe the company line?

Said it in another post, but I'm not expecting him to bash China. I have apple products. I shop at walmart. I'd have to do research to confidently point to something I own that didn't have either material from China or that didn't at least have some components made in China, if not being manufactured there.

But if somebody is willing to stand on principle rather than their economic interests, just don't make up ******** and bash them, and certainly don't claim they're ignorant for caring about human rights abuses. And certainly not when you're already worth a few hundred million dollars and can continue to make millions off endorsements from companies that don't have to lick China's boots.

I also think we have a mutual respect here that the north does not. We mingle more rurally in the south, making it a more personal experience. Lots of 1 to 2 person encounters. This leads to being familiar with your neighbor.....which leads to comfortability....which leads to respect.

Which leads to knowing someone’s name and likenesses....which leads to more love.

It’s easier to hate a nameless face. In the south, it seems, everyone has a name. Everyone has a face.
Accountability. Pride. Religion. Space. = Southern Culture.

We would kill a lot of the division if we destroyed social media.

Your narrative of how the North operates is hilarious. Like really, what do you imagine is happening here?
There are areas of dense population and areas of smaller rural population. There are nice communities and unsafe communities. Its the same as in the South or the West or the East. Divide the country up into arbitrary geographic segments and you will find pockets that are ideal and not ideal within those large segments.

Your post is dripping with Rockwellian idealism. We talk with our neighbors many times a week. I helped 3 neighbors cut and move tree limbs that fell during the shitstom a couple weeks ago. Our kids play with neighborhood kids.
Yada Yada Yada.

Your generalization that everyone has a face in the South and therefore hate is lower is just baseless and funny. There is real deep and strong hate in areas of the South nust like there are reas in the North with deep and strong hate.

I do agree that social media is da debil in all this.

Did you take con law at trump university? Attempted murder is a pretty clear violation of due process.

Why pretend to be dumb? I seriously doubt you really believe the elements of attempted murder are met based on that video.

And did you ever stop to think that it's people being idiots like you that are partly responsible for why we have ridiculously over broad qualified immunity for police? When people push for accountability for police, opponents can always point to idiots that think cops should be required to give criminals the first shot before responding. So a cop will get off for shooting somebody that is just reaching for his wallet when he hasn't been violent or given the policeman a reason to believe it's likely he's going for a weapon in part because of all the examples of people too stupid or unreasonable to acknowledge the difference between that and a situation where somebody has already gotten physical with the police and refused orders and then reaches for something in a car.

Ok, so tell me. How invested are the typical chinese buyer's in their government's domination of Hong Kong? Where do you find reliable data for that? I'm under the impression that it's not a great idea to be in China and be very vocal about how you disagree with the Communist party. Does the average potential NBA customer in China really care about Hong Kong?

Your professed ignorance is of how "Nationalistic the Chinese are". You portray yourself as far to intelligent to really believe that. It's not like "Chinese Nationalism" is a recent development, Its literally the example of a nationalist society.

I admit that you suck at reading comprehension. I admitted that I was expecting Lebron to cross an extremely low bar.

I'd like to think that if I were in Lebron's shoes that I would say $400M is enough and actually criticize China for human rights abuses if I had the megaphone to do so. It's hard to say though. Thinking $400M is enough is one of many reasons I won't ever have anywhere near $400M, even if I had the skills to do so.

I don't think it'd be hard for me to refrain from bashing people who are standing on principle though. That's just such an incredibly low bar to pass, it's not like I'm crediting myself or anybody else with some exceptional character to think they'd clear that bar. It's not like I'm claiming I or anybody else would give away everything once they had crossed $100M or something.

He was going for a weapon? You sure you want to die on that hill? Because that has not been released.

But whatever you need to think to justify shooting someone in the back in front of his kids...

And if it was "because he had a weapon" Why was this guy not shot by police? https://www.tmz.com/2020/08/26/kenosha-shooting-2-dead-1-injured-jacob-blake-protest-police-blm/

The protest centered around the courthouse and got out of hand, with water bottles, rocks and fireworks aimed at police. Apparently you are right, if he'd shot someone, had a AR-15, and been walking down the street shooting more people, the police would have not shot him.

When the police know you have a record, they are serving a warrant for a violent offense, and that person becomes violent, and reaches into the car...... As was stated, they weigh the situation. The whole picture.

As it is right now, cops are leaving jobs because they can not work under the conditions in some cities.

Seattle: They just tried to seal police in their station using concrete and burn them alive. Literally. They have not been allowed to do their jobs.

Portland: Police are literally retiring or leaving because they can not do their jobs.

Kenosha: The people there have seen Seattle, Portland, Chicago, LA, Denver, Minneapolis ...etc... And they themselves took to their roofs, homes and stores to protect what is theirs. The result, looters getting in the faces of those protecting their property to try and attack and intimidate them... getting shot in the head... Arm shot off. Shot in the stomach... etc...

Kenosha citizens are not taking it. And all of this is from 1 side pushing this. And James is pushing an outright lie.

Period.

The South went/goes to school together? Private schools were literally created to avoid going to school together and to this day, many(most?) that I have read about are still extremely segregated. I'm not trying to get into a long discussion for I don't have the time, but I meant public schools (for that's my experience). I'm well aware of why there are so many private schools. I don't know if this is a predominantly Southern thing, however.

Furthermore, I was under the impression that we were talking about the generation that is rioting or resisting arrest. Not the generation that was in classes when schools were integrated and private ones were created.

The South went/goes to church together? Mmmmm, that isnt worth getting into its so incorrect. I knew when I typed churches it was wrong on a macro-level. I just didn't feel the need to qualify it.

Sure there is some integration in the white private schools, integration into the black public schools, and churches. That togetherness is 1- minimal and 2- often by need instead of choice with regard to school.

I wouldn't ever claim the Deep South is well integrated.

Nor did I claim that. Integrated was definitely the wrong word to use. What I was asking and referring to was basically answered in Lettuce's and Bruce's replies. There's less of us, so we form more personal connections than just this side of the track vs the other. Then again, I grew up in the 3rd or 4th largest city in GA that still had/has more people than the largest city in MS. So, my experiences are completely different.

I also said I could be way, way off.

Then blame the people pushing a false narrative. People are not going to continue to be looted, beat up, etc.

BTW... TMZ is wrong. That kid will walk. The videos are clear. The guy shot in the stomach was the one chasing him. The guy with the arm shot almost off had a handgun in his hand chasing him....

This is idiotic. The 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment have never provided that it is unconstitutional to arrest someone. Even if you are being wrongfully arrested, the neither the law nor the constitution provides you the right to use force against police, nor do they provide that if you are in the process of being arrested, and refuse to comply, physically resist arrest, and then reach for something out of the cops view, that the cops have to wait to see if you are pulling a gun to shoot.

This is basically the exact same situation as the incident (in Pennsylvania, I think?) whose video made the rounds a month or so ago. Police tried to arrest, tried to subdue with physical force, tried to use taser, and then the arrestee reached for something in his car. The only difference is in this situation it was the arrestee that was shot rather than the policemen, because this policeman didn't wait for the arrestee to shoot first. I kind of find it hard to fault him for that.

ETA: the video of the incident, and it was in Pennsylvania:

You just have to realize there are some people in this country that really embrace anarchy and want cops murdered in the streets.

I’d like to read y’alls thoughts on to why southern cities have escaped 99% of this mob? What data can be interpreted through the docile nature of Dallas, Jackson, Nashville, Memphis, Jacksonville, Birmingham and New Orleans....amongst most others southern multi cultured areas?

Is it local leadership? State leadership? Why hasn’t the hate mob targeted Baton Rouge?

I'm sure centuries of oppression and lynchings have nothing to do with it at all...

Not sure how much this has to do with it, but we don't seem to have a ton of entitled white brats from affluent families that are ready to burn **** down. To the extent that's part of it, that of course just raises the question of why we don't?

Maybe growing up in the south, those entitled brats are more likely to get their *** kicked when they act like jackasses in jr high and high school? Maybe our education system is not as corrupt and spends less time indoctrinating studenst at the JR High, High school, and college level? And the ones that do get indoctrinated, can't wait to leave the south to be with people more like them?

My second guess is that potential rioters and looters know that not only will people be armed, they will shoot, and if they ever stand trial, they'll be at least one if not a majority of jurors that would refuse to convict them?

Pretty much just shooting in the dark though on both those guesses.

TIL there are no fights in schools outside the South. And there there are no guns outside the south.

TO the extent I keep up with stuff, it's in the context of worldwide politics, where it's the Chinese communist party that matters. There are obviously lots of Chinese dissidents, but they're an extremely small number of people when you talk about their population. Are there tons of people that are sympathetic but are scared to have a bullseye on their back? Or are the dissidents really just extreme outliers? Was Tiananmen Square just the tip of a much larger number of sympathetic people, a large enough number that the government could have been threatened if a preference cascade started? Or did it not extend past a 100k idealistic college aged kids?

Again, I'd be interested in seeing where you are getting your data from. It's hard coming from a WEIRD country to guess at how Chinese people might think. I don't think a lot of people in the US would care if Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands wanted to become independent. Obviously the government cared, but did the average UK consumer care about the Falklands in 1982? But regardless, neither of those are very instructive.

You'd think the Texas Legislature would update the statue to this new definition and not just limit the death penalty to Capital Homicide. I guess it's too liberal controlled to get something like that passed.

You seriously didn't know China is Nationalistic. Wow that's a fine education you got there. FYI that big white thing in the sky at night is called the Moon...

He was going for a weapon? You sure you want to die on that hill? Because that has not been released.
Did I say he was going for a weapon? Maybe read my post before replying?

But whatever you need to think to justify shooting someone in the back in front of his kids...

And if it was "because he had a weapon" Why was this guy not shot by police? https://www.tmz.com/2020/08/26/kenosha-shooting-2-dead-1-injured-jacob-blake-protest-police-blm/

Apparently you are right, if he'd shot someone, had a AR-15, and been walking down the street shooting more people, the police would have not shot him.

TIL that getting into your car with your kids is more dangerous to police than shooting protesters.

So ignoring the fact that one incident was taking place during a riot when maybe, just maybe the police had other things going on, where is the part of the video or the description of when he was fighting with the police? THe only part I saw he didn't have any interaction with the police and in fact put his hands up where they were visible and the weapon was clearly not pointed at anyone. Show me the video where he fights with them and ignores their commands and I will be able to compare apples to apples?

On a side note, while going around visibly armed in a riot seems like a good way to get shot by either police or rioters, not being armed in a riot also seems like a good way of getting hurt, especially if you are trying to protect your home or business. Not sure how reckless or stupid this guy was before the video, but just being armed when there is a riot going on seems pretty sensible, and when you're being chased by a mob, shooting rather than giving them the option of beating you to death seems very sensible.

You" expect Lebron" to do it, but are to chickenshit to do it yourself. Got you.

Right. You cannot be inconvenienced to not buy things from China due to your principles, but a famous athlete should hold to those "low bar" principles you "hold", but cannot be bothered to follow yourself. Totally makes since.

Again, try reading before replying. I am in fact complying with the same standard I expect of Lebron. I am not bashing Daryl Moray or other people standing on principle against the CHinese Communist party's actions in Hong Kong.

I can't fairly say whether I'd criticize China if I were in Lebron's shoes. It seems obvious to me that I would criticize them, but I'm also not trying to acquire my next $400M and haven't been in a position where I was trying to acquire my next $400M, so maybe I'd feel differently if I were. Maybe there's stuff I can't afford to do that once I did, I'd realize $400M (or say $600M, because it's not like he wouldn't still make millions if he criticized China) isn't enough and I'm just ignorant of what it is I'm missing out on right now and don't realize what a sacrifice it would be to settle for a net worth of just $400M (or $600M).

The video is out there man. He was being chased and tripped. He fell to the ground. The 2 guys chasing him from directly behind both got shot. One had a hand gun... The other kicked him in the face. Both were shot.

Um, you said
He wasn't shot for disobeying an order. He could have continued to walk down the street or done pretty much anything in defiance of their orders other than something that looked like he was going for a weapon.

So yeah I think you said you though he was going for a weapon.

I think the incident from last night in the same town with the same police, but a white guy actually shooting people, vs a black guy walking to his car with his kids in the backseat. One actually has a weapon and is actively using it to shoot people, the other "looked like he night be going for a weapon" One gets shot and the other is protected seems relevant.

Also, reports are the guy being chased was chased because he shot someone. Which to use your logic is a reasonable response of the mob to detain the assailant. Or does that only work that way for Bugaloo white nationalists? https://www.npr.org/sections/live-u...wis-as-protests-continue-over-police-shooting

Just amazes me that so many of you are so pro life that women cannot have IUD's but think it's ok to kill someone for a misdemeanor. The guy broke the law and should be punished, but the law defines the punishment as well. Shooting a man for a misdemeanor is cruel and unusual punishment.

But yeah you have made it clear, you think others should be held to a higher standard and sacrifice more than you are willing to do yourself. That's fine. You should own it.

I'm just letting you know that "high ground" you think you are on about Hong Kong is a pile of ********.

You keep throwing out $400 million like that matters.... If he cost his company it's largest client, he'd be fired. And he still wants to work. Same as you.

Unless you think everyone that has over $400 million should be banned from making more money, which I'm sure you are strongly against....

Well again, haven't had reason to consider the Chinese people, just the Chinese government. Have no clue what their thoughts are on Hong Kong. Many of them probably remember before the British relinquished control and I believe Hong Kong operated relatively independently, so it's not obvious to me that they'd be all that invested in completely removing Hong Kong's independence. For all I know, CHinese people are just happy with their increased economic independence and aren't really worried about China's ambitions on the world stage as long as they continue to enjoy increased prosperity. Why don't you point out where you are getting your information on it so I can read up on it.

Are you saying it's ok to shoot someone and just walk away? That it a capital crime to disobey and order, but ok to shoot people in the street?

Because that's what you are defending....

Just trying to frame the context of what deserves to be shot by police and what is not.

So far, resisting arrest and disobeying an order is a capital crime, but shooting multiple people in the street is not a capital crime.

Just enlightening to see what Mississippians think about crime and punishment.

No no... I'm defending protecting one's self and property in the midst of a riot where the Governor and Mayor refused federal help and allowed a man to be knocked by a fire extinguisher and over 30 business burned and looted.

On the car lot, prior to this, a car was put into flames again and people attacked.

I'm defending the right of a guy to defend himself from harm.... YEP!
