I know this may come as a shock to you, but there are some areas in our government that are better served by people who are not solely motivated by profit. I am not sure the USPS is one of those, but the point remains.

I don't think you tea party types would really like the way it looked in the end, if the whole country was privatized.

Not a tea party member, just a libertarian. I just feel that you shouldn't extort money from people (taxes) to fund anything. If there's a big enough need/want from a community for something they'll figure out a way to voluntarily fund it and run it through government.

Explain the difference, please.

Ok.

when you vote absentee, you request the ballot and, in most cases, fill out a form and sign it to authenticate the request for the ballot.

With mail in voting, ballots are blanketed to all voters without certification that the address is still valid, the person has not moved, or the person has even died.

Absentee voting is the current largest source of election fraud. What happens when you add more people and an unreliable delivery service to it?

Twenty one percent of the mail in ballots were invalidated in this years New York primary election. not .21 percent... not 2.1 percent. 21 percent. With that epic failure on a small scale test... why rubber stamp it nationwide? Again... they are still waiting on actual certified results from the June primary in New York. It’s almost September. That is in one city.

At that rate.... how would you know the winner of the president election by Inauguration Day?

If you are referencing a request for an absentee ballot, that's much different than voting. You have to use ID and verify you're the voter to get the absentee ballot. That is NOT mail in voting. Read a little more about your subject before posting. Mail in voting is the **** show NY just had.

Absentee voting is NOT mail in voting. Good grief people. You have to verify who you are and offer ID to get an absentee ballot. See NY's recent primary for mail in voting.

This is the final phase of the plan. To get to mail in voting brought on by trying to scare the **** out of everybody with a deadly virus. Mail in voting is easier to manipulate.

No you don’t. How do I know? I requested my mail in ballot 2 weeks ago. You verify your information online.

ha!

that link suggest they could add 5.9B (rounded for easier math) of cash flow with that strategy but they lose about 2.2B per QUARTER (not year). so...8.8B less 5.9B still puts them 2.9B in the hole. if they cut the mail back to 2 days per week like garbage days it would all work out the same but cost 1/3 less.

ref: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/nat...e net loss for the,the same quarter last year.

As usual, it's all conspiracy and bluster from Trump. He always votes by mail himself. He just doesn't want others to have that same rights since they might not vote for him.

Just for kicks. Google “mail dumped”. You may initially say that it’s the same story till you look at the dates.

we used to send birthday cards, graduation cards, Christmas cards, etc. with gift cards. A few of them didn’t make it. We started sending them in the priority mail envelopes and they began to all arrive. Someone either in the local office or the Memphis sorting hub was intercepting the cards and stealing the gift cards apparently. When they became less obvious, they stopped getting intercepted.

One question with that said..... if you vote by mail.... how you know your vote counted?
In Georgia we have a My Voter Page that let's you track the status of your ballot. This is not rocket science for a state to implement.

another one... if you initially do not receive your ballot... how you know it wasn’t stolen? And your vote nullified by fraud? how do you ensure that didn’t happen?
You check your status page to see if your absentee ballot has already been turned in. If it has not you request a new one, this generates a new identifier, and even if your old one was received it would not be counted due to the id already having been voided.

And when you dig into it... absentee voting is absolutely different than what is being proposed by national mail in voting. What is also wanted is, like Nevada, people to be able to fill in ballots for other people. Yea. No concerns of any coercion or instances of “granny is just confused... she really wanted to vote for ____” going on.
You should see Granny at the touch screen displays used for voting in many states today.

Finally.... when would we know the results? You know there is STILL a primary election in New York for TWO congressional seats that is still undecided due to mail in voting? Two months without a winner. Is that what we want?
If we are willing to continue to fund the postal service at usual levels and fund staff to process incoming ballots I don't see why the processing of ballots and final tabulation could not happen within a week.

And over 95,000 illegals in TX are getting mail in ballots. Even Fauci says there's no reason not to vote in person. Take your asses in, show your ID and vote in person.

That's a legitimate absentee voting request. At one time, you had to have a really good reason to request an absentee ballot, but nowadays you don't. Yes, you can mail it in, but it's not what's meant by mail-in voting where everybody on the voting rolls gets a ballot sent to them.

I've read, but can't verify, that Los Angeles County has 112% of their population registered to vote - obviously a lot of dead folks can vote (or someone can fraudently vote for them) and a lot of people who have moved are still registered. I doubt anybody de-registers when they move; that's supposed to be up to the voting registrar to take care of, but I can imagine it's a dauting task.

I have no idea why Democrats are so opposed to voting in person on the designated election day with a proper picture ID. I don't even like the concept of early voting - what if the person dies before election day? Does his ballot still count?

This year is a bit more complicated because of Covid. If you're afraid to face the crowds on voting day, request an absentee ballot, but give them time to approve the request.

This doesn’t apply to me but some people have jobs that don’t allow them to stand in line on a Tuesday for an hour. I think one of the issues is people that tend to believe there is a danger about being around crowds tend to be Democrats. Older voters are the one’s that need to be concerned with the virus and they are a Pro-Trump so it seems suppressing their votes may hurt Republicans.

No he doesn't. He votes by absentee ballot - a huge difference. He has to request the ballot and the registrar makes sure that he's a legitimate, registered voter, and then he gets a ballot sent to him. Would you rather he hopped on AF-1 with his security detail, a backup plane with his other limousine in it, to go vote? And have the receiving city go to all the trouble of a presidential arrival? I don't think so.

He mails it in, most likely (or taken by courier - who knows?), but it's not "mail-in voting" where everybody gets a ballot sent to them without requesting it or proving they are eligble to receive one. That's a far cry from mail-in, as proposed.

Well, those workers or the the older folks can easily request an absentee ballot. It can be done online, in person, or probably other means. There's plenty of time between now and November 3. Their eligibility will be vetted, and they will receive a ballot to return.

The last time I voted a month or so ago, there was hardly anyone in my precinct (it was a local runoff with less than 10% turnout). The general election in November will be crowded, and I can understand not wanting to be in a crowd. Masks are required locally, but can't be enforced. That was tried during that small election I mentioned, and was overruled by the state. I can't imagine why somebody would complain about wearing a mask for a few minutes, but I guess it takes all kinds.

Actually, I heard today that in the polls, older voters are tending toward Biden this time even though they voted for Trump last time. Not sure how legitimate that story was.

Using private companies for packages is fine, but leave letters to the USPS. Packages do indeed take up a lot of their time. They probably shouldn't have take the Amazon delivery deal.

Plus, they should start charging full rate for the junk mail. They'd either become solvent overnight, or they'd quite mailing the stuff and immediately become more efficient. It hits the recycle bin on the way in the house anyway.

Yes, many things can be handled online, but letters still have a purpose. I don't remember the last time I sat down and wrote a hand-written letter to anyone.

You're splitting hairs. Whether he requests the ballot or just gets one automatically, the same phantom security and logistical issues exist if the ballots are going through the mail.

Obviously Trump doesn't really believe there is a problem with ballots going through the mail or he wouldn't exclusively vote through the mail.

Florida here, and I totally agree. And so does the president apparently.

There's a huge difference between absentee voting and standard voting by mail. A huge difference. Every time a liberal tries to call them the same thing, a baby seal dies.

Save the baby seals. Educate yourself.

Not from a "Is the USPS safe and reliable enough to trust the results" perspective, which is what the debate is centered on.

Well, there is certainly a much larger volume of mail with wholesale mail-in voting, so it won't be as safe and reliable as absentee voting just from that standpoint.

The dominant concern is not so much delivery of the mail, but fraud or "accidental" votes being cast by someone other than the voter. If there's some way of vetting the voters, which would be a monumental task, it would be more tolerable, expecially during the pandemic.

No, it's not. The USPS argument is a liberal invented red herring. The real debate that liberals don't want to have because the facts aren't on their side is centered on the process of voting by mail and harvesting ballots, which presents tremendous opportunity for fraud.

Not really though. From the best I could find online, somewhere in the 25-30 million votes were sent through the mail in 2016. We're talking about bumping that up to something like 50-75 million this time, or maybe like 125 million if literally everyone it (when obviously millions of people will prefer not to).

That sounds like a big increase, but the USPS sends nearly 500 million pieces of mail per day (at least they did pre-pandemic, but that's what they're equipped to do). So we're talking an 50 million (or maybe as much as 100 million) spread out over 3 months, a time period when they would be sending over 40 billion pieces of mail. It's not that big of a deal.

As for your second point, it's theoretically possible that I could grab my neighbor's ballot of his mailbox and send it in on his behalf without him realizing it, but the risk/reward ratio just isn't there. I'm going to risk years in federal prison to switch one vote in safe Mississippi from Trump to Biden? Of course not. Even in a swing state that doesn't make any sense unless you steal an entire neighborhood or more, and that exponentially increases your chances of getting caught. You're not going to get away with anything unless the whole neighborhood is in on it, in which case what's the point?

Oregon has done this for decades and no one doubts their results. Other states do it to, from blue Washington to deep red Utah, and nobody has ever doubted the results in any of those states, even in close elections.

Except that it doesn't in the real world, where this has been tested and proven. Nobody has ever stolen an election using all-mail voting in the US, nor has anyone even alleged to have done so. Everyone across the spectrum in Oregon, Washington, and Utah knows you're full of ****. And believe it, in this day of Big Data and high-level statistical analysis, any sudden cheating scheme would be very apparent to all the grad students and data nerds who scour over election result.

The only reason this is an issue is because Trump thinks it might swing the election to him. It also might not, since it probably hurts more in Florida than it helps, but if he's losing the state anyway, it might swing him some other ones.

If the right thought they could win without voter suppression, they wouldn't be defunding the post office.

Personally, I'd rather everyone be able to vote and let the chips fall where they may. If my side wins, great, if not, well at least America gets what it wants. That's why I think Election Day should be open for several days, including at least 1 weekend day, like they do in other countries, as well as letting people vote by mail or early if that's what works best for them.

Glad to see you've bought in whole-hog

to one of the more insidious acts of voter suppression pushed in the modern era. Mail-in ballots may be crucial due to a pandemic? Let's appoint a crony to gut the department 3 months out from the election to reduce voting and help the party stay in power. This is an extension on the recent trend of reducing voting locations in heavily populated democratic areas, leading to incredibly long lines (and preventing some from voting).

Trump's republican party no longer even gives the smallest 17 about anyone seeing them rig the game. Win at all costs. How did the GOP get this bad?

IIRC, studies show mail-in voting doesn't significantly help one party

on a national level. I think Trump was recently told this, so he's started pushing *for* Mail-in voting in certain, typically republican leaning states like Florida, while still yelling against it in other states. Apparently he trusts DeSantis to "do the right thing" while believing democratic controlled states will intentionally mishandle ballots.

Projection at its finest.

Why is the wholesale catastrophe in New York continually being ignored by one side?? Did Trump rig it so the New York trial balloon popped? 21 percent were invalidated. 21 percent. 21 percent. 21 percent. Say it. It’s easy. 21 percent. Invalidated.

it’s been 2 months and no declared winner in two races. This is in one city. 2 months.

why is this so difficult??
