Contact surfaces and asymptomatic

At one point, the health world said that it was difficult to catch corona via contact surfaces and very rare for asymptomatic people to spread corona. Is that still the story or has it changed?

You won't get an honest answer for either because the only people in positions to give you one have an agenda. They want the increased hygiene and mask measures in place to stay with us indefinitely.

It has to be difficult to catch it via contact. Otherwise way more would have it.

I have not heard of the FDA changing their initial statement that transmission through surface contact is not likely.

I think you’ve actually got it reversed..unless they’ve changed it again, which is probable.

At the start of this, the handwashing narrative was strong...and not a bad idea in any case. I was freaking heavily diligent on this...I took my own wipes into the grocery store to wipe down my cart, open cooler doors, etc.
Then they said, catching from surfaces wasn’t as likely. I quit my overly cautious approach, wiping down everything; just made sure I sanitized my hands when leaving any place other than my home, which I still do.
I was talking to a surgeon customer of mine along with some other people, discussing Covid and another surgeon we knew that had contracted it..And I just quipped, “just don’t lick the elevator buttons”..he said, you could lick the elevator buttons; it’s got to go directly into the respiratory system to contract it.

But honestly..there’s so much still unknown, who knows. Never hurts to be cautious.

The asymptomatic thing seems to change weekly.
Ive known people who tested positive, who had symptoms so mild, they didn’t think anything about it..so they weren’t truly asymptomatic, and didn’t know they had symptoms until they were tested.

Why would anyone have an agenda to keep us in mask indefinitely?

The thing about contact surfaces is you would still have to touch your face to get infected. Ive heard all kinds of different reports on the activity of the virus on surfaces, so I just try not to touch my face until I have sanitized my hands.

Asymptomatic people can be contagious. One doctor for the WHO said in a press conference that some recent contact tracing studies found asymptomatic transmission to be very rare. The next day, the WHO said her comments had been misunderstood, and as much as 40% of all cases come from asymptomatic transmission.

So that we don't kill anybody's grandma?

So that we can continue to write news articles listing the case numbers, hospitalizations and/or deaths "caused by the virus" and then blame it on President Trump?

So that we can "punish" all the Trump voters after Trump is re-elected in November?

I could probably think of more reasons why a person would have an agenda to keep us in masks indefinitely, but I'll stop there.

I think one day covid will be gone and we won’t be asked to wear mask. But I forgot, the dems concocted this whole plan just to get trump out of office and demonize trump voters.

It’s amazing all the strings they had to pull and all the different countries they had to get involved.

To basically defeat the flu and other airborne illnesses. Flu has almost been eradicated in the Southern Hemisphere this season via covid methods

The real answer is no one knows for sure.

For fomite transmission, there were early studies that showed how stable the virus was on surfaces in a lab setting. As time went on, it didn’t appear those findings translated into real life with a lot infections through fomite transmission. There was a paper last month that stated the risk of transmission through fomites is exaggerated. Long story short, right now it appears possible but low risk and situational.

Same goes for asymptomatic transfer. There are several case studies published now. Aggregate data seems to indicate, on average, transmission from asymptomatic people tends to be lower. However, there are definitely cases where transmission occurs at a high rate. Lots of variables in asymptomatic transfer - was the person just asymptomatic at the time before presenting COVID symptoms versus does the person remain asymptomatic through infection or were mitigation practices (ie social distancing) in place.

So in general the statements hold true, but there are exceptions and a lot of variables that go into this.

People think I'm crazy when I say this, but if we keep the same measures in place we have now, we won't have a flu season this winter.

I do wonder how many lives might have been saved over the years if were all just more hygienic during flue season. Masks were probably not important, but if we all could have just washed our hands more, spent less time in indoor crowds, and stayed home when we felt bad, then I wonder what impact that could have had?

Asymptomatic vs. Pre-symptomatic. You don't get a lot of distinction in the studies. Pre-symptomatics are almost certainly contagious. Asymptomatics can be contagious, but its not clear what variables can effect that.

I’m sure someone makes way too much money off the flu shot to allow that to happen.

You should really have to change your name. ron polk isn't a liberal.

You can tell I’m a liberal by asking why someone would have an agenda to make us wear mask indefinitely? I guess I could be wrong but I think once covid is not a threat (I guess assuming that actually happens) we won’t be asked to wear mask. Maybe I’m being naive or maybe I can see where mask where mandated during the Spanish flu and then didn’t stick around. But that was before social media and uncle billy couldn’t inform me about how the government plot against the republicans.

Best I can tell, to a lot of posters here, refuting conspiracy theories with common sense and reason translates to "liberal". Probably comes from watching too much Fox News.
