And so it starts! Does SEC follow?

Don’t know what happens from here. But IF the SEC and ACC play this fall without any major issues, every B1G leader involved in this decision is toast.

The Legal Liability is too high to play.

The "legal liability" is higher than the $100 million dollar guaranteed loss for the school itself and likely billion dollar loss for the surrounding town and supporting structure?

Sorry. I just do not see it.

Also the public relations nightmare from being unable to keep players safe and having multiple college football players due due to them contracting COVID on the football field. It would be huge.

NOBODY is going to have crowds of any size if we do play right now. The negative economic impact is going to be there play or not. If anything kicking the can down to spring might just enable bigger crowds if we do get a vaccine around New Years. I expect that's been brought up.

How many people could we realistically make room for, scholarship-wise?

Maybe we can pull an Alabama and start giving the Medical Waivers. The one where they keep their scholarships but don't count against the total number of scholarships.

What about the public relations nightmare of the ones that are killed in gunfire or equivalently with COVID when they are sent home?

The liability STILL isn't larger than the guaranteed loss. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. We'll see if the SEC agrees when we actually have to make the decision in a couple of weeks.

This is the start of the divide of college football.

SEC, ACC, Big 12 Super conference.

Add Nebraska and a few others.

Set it up like D3 with a 32 team tournament at the end.

You can always play the what if game. Why would they go home if they are still in school? It's also not the schools responsibility or liability if they are not at the school.

Yep. The SEC will postpone eventually, I doubt a game is played before they do. The Legal Liability is too high to play.

The presidents are not making the call, the state governors are. No way the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida will say vote postpone or cancel. That is 7 schools right there. One more votes play and we play.

Why do people keep talking about them being “sent home”? They are still enrolled, and would presumably still have classes on campus and living arrangements established in whatever college town they are in. It’s not like they are getting evicted. They will also still, conceivably, be going through team meetings, workouts, etc.

The school couldn't continue a scholarship if they weren't in school and all the other students were, could they? After all, it's supposed to be an educational institution.

Even a 20% crowd would be economically better for hotels and other businesses than a 0% crowd.

But how do you crown a national champion this year if only 2-3 conferences play? Will it have an asterisk or will you have a fall champion and a spring champion?

Will it really be any different playing now v playing in 4-5 more months? Hopefully the virus load will be lessened but if your looking at risk management, I would think COVID would still be a risk factor in the spring. Maybe not as high, but your still gonna have the opportunity to catch it.

SEC, ACC, Big 12 play on Saturday. Form your own committee to determine the top 4 teams at the end of the year.

C-USA and Sun Belt play Tuesdays and Wednesdays (and overnight become the best G5 conferences).

Let’s roll.

Why are they not still in school? The players would have to quit the team and leave the University.

If we play, along with the ACC and Big 12, anybody think ESPN and the others will go to pay per view to watch the games, so they can recover some of the money they are losing?

I think they try to play, but I doubt they finish. I mean the Cardinals have now had 18 games cancelled and they are professionals.

I just don't think any of these AD's or presidents has the stomach for when the first player (at any school) gets sick enough to go to the hospital or ICU. The pitchforks and torches would be out in full force if God forbid a player actually died from this. There is virtually no chance that a college AD, President, or the League commissioner would keep their job in that scenario.

That's why the Big 10 and Pac 12 cancelled. I don't think a ACC, Big 10, or SEC president would keep their job, but I know the Big 10 and Pac 12 constituents would tar and feather them in that scenario. In the SEC you are going to get tarred and feathered by the fanbase if you don't try to play and you might get it from faculty, media, and students if you do play and someone gets hospitalized or worse.

I think there's going to be an oh, well we tried strategy. Hope I'm completely wrong and this goes away fast as we move into the fall.

Not if they were literally "sent home".

That’s the point I already made. Nobody is sending them home. It’s mid-August and all these players are already on campus. Schools have already made the financial and logistical commitments to feed, house, educate, and coach these scholarship players for the academic year. They can’t just snap their fingers and un-spend that money.

Sure, the NCAA can do some emergency allowances for kids to maybe take the semester off without losing eligibility if players so choose, but that would be the exact opposite of being “sent” home.

Better question, how do you crown a national champion if all 5 conferences play, but its 2 or 3 in the fall and 2 or 3 in the spring? Do you delay the CFP until the early summer, and pit the fall and spring teams together in the same playoff?

Because all of the students will eventually be sent home? Once all the Starkville area hotels are full of quarantined students, they will send everyone home again.

I dont see how engineers can be adequately taught remotely. Probably hard in other disciplines as well. I wonder if med schools would do online learning? Or law schools...i dont think the socratic method would work quite as well via Zoom.

The NBA has been wildly successful. I know we are dealing with a different animal but if the players really want football, they will have to step up and take accountability, have self awareness and practice common sense....if we are to make a run at it.

They will, essentially, have to be in a bubble.
Multiple test per week.
Checking in and checking out of the bubble.

if you leave it, you must be cleared to return..just like the NBA.

The Cardinals players caught the virus while partying, if I’m not mistaken.

Football players will have to party alone for 12 weeks if they want a season.

Id follow nba ideas and improve upon the remote bubble guidelines they have implemented.

In normal times, our first game would only be a couple weeks away.

This! What I would give to have everything normal right now. College football was an escape from politics and the real world. It ironic that we won’t have any games in one of the most divided times in recent years.
