Honestly I’m not sure why so many Christians are Republicans:
- Constantly trying to remove aid for the poor, sick, and elderly
- Want to remove protections from minorities, gays, and other classes discriminated against
- Do not want to protect the environment we are untrusted with
- Believe in money above all other values

I guarantee Jesus does not approve of either party’s platform.

It's actually just white Evangelicals, and it's because many of them are single issue voters on abortion and Supreme Court Justices.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread. I cant get enough ironic and absurd humor in my life, but this added to it bigly.
It went just as I guessed based on that initial post.

There's not a single word in your little anti-republican rant that is even in the same zip code as truth.

Republicans don't stand for any of that. Although liberal idiots and low information voters too dumb to think for themselves sometimes are led to believe they do.

It would probably help if you cracked a book every once in a while.

What do Republicans stand for again? A president who put an abortion on his AMEX card and has been accused of rape by several women?

Joe Biden is apparently a practicing catholic as is Nancy Pelosi. It seems that supporting, or at the very least, enabling the murder of a human being in the womb would be kind of a deal breaker for a Christian.

Probably because the Catholic Church has killed and oppressed more people than any organization in history.

I really don’t care if the President is Christian or not. That is between him and God. The point I do care is if protects my right to be Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc.

Exactly. I greatly respect those with religious beliefs of any kind but I don't care what POTUS or any elected officials are. Religion doesn't equal morals. I tried just about every belief growing up and I don't care for them personally.

Considering that a SCOTUS appointment is for life, and considering that SCOTUS can undo pretty much anything the president does outside the use of the military, SCOTUS is a pretty dang important issue. And considering the fact that justices appointed by Democrats are the main ones who try to legislate from the bench by pushing for broader abortion rights, transgender rights, discrimination against people of faith, etc., why is it surprising that those who identify as Christian would consider SCOTUS appointments as a seminal issue?

Liberals are the same way. Can you imagine what would happen if RBG leaves the court while Trump is still in office and GOP controls the Senate? Liberals would literally burn the country to the ground.

Be prepared. You may have to inform them that they are not black, if they don't vote 100% Dem. That could be disturbing.

There is much that I find contrary between people who identify as Christian and their life choices.

Perhaps all are hypocrites. Perhaps all are human and at times fall short of perfection. Perhaps a mix of both.

Democrats love to shame Republicans in ways like, "How can you vote for Trump/Romney/Bush, you mean you support _______" (pick a topic off the list of things has supported/said/done that is not particularly Christian). At the same time, when asked why they support Biden/Hillary/Obama, the reply is "You don't how to support every particular issue......". It's very textbook stuff. Many Republicans, in an effort to virtue signal, get tripped up by this tactic. Me? I'm a Trump supporting Republican Christian. I'm not perfect and neither is he. I like his platform better than the other options. It's that simple, and most of time, I can tell why the Republican platform is more Christian than the Democratic one.

You simply pick the candidate that lines up the best with your ideals and worldview. Some have a simple worldview. Some are more broad.

You answered your own question.

True Christians know this already, so there's no reason to shame people in this way. Non-Christians will use this false ammunition freely to shame the opponent, especially Christians. Only nominal Christians truly fall for it.

How do you "try a belief". Not to criticize, but just trying out a bunch of beliefs when you were younger may be the problem. True Christianity is not a trial based product like pants, or beer, or a car, etc.

"...when I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me..."

A lot of posters in this thread may want to read the entire chapter this excerpt is in (1 Corinthians 13). It pretty much sums up a real Christian's identity.

See, I know the purpose of this is to actually scrutinize others on this board with your typical racist propaganda.

But I suspect God sent that message to you through your pastor for you to evaluate your own heart, not for you to bring it to a sports message board and try to use it as some statement of moral authority over everyone else.

I'm sorry if I've gotten under your skin.

That checks out with the Bible. We are given some idea of how to discern, however, "...know them by their fruits...". We are also expected to hold other Christians accountable to the Bible but we are not supposed to judge people who choose not to follow Christ.

I don't have a bead on anti-abortion sentiment, and my referenced post was a guess at possible motivation without any specific knowledge of anyone who was advocating for in the 70's and is not today. An hypothesis if you will...

People find more comfort in rules than relationships when it comes to morality. Always looking to check a box. It's a key reason that the hypocritical religious elite in Jesus' time had 700+ rules and nobody could follow them. That points to a key purpose in the OT. You can't possibly do all this right; you need Jesus. Not much has changed, except Jesus showed up and provided a better understanding of what the OT was pointing to. Our human nature to set rules, fail to follow properly, and re-start appears pervasive. The Bible just has the audacity to suggest that we have a creator who has his own rules, and it is pretty important to try to follow them. It also sets the expectation for failure, repentance and continuous improvement.

It’s funny you say that Bill Maher once pointed out that the worst Catholic atrocities were committed when the religion was 1400 years old. The Muslim faith is 1400 years old. I hope they move the same direction the Catholic Church did, but much quicker.

I didnt ask a question. And I have found reality to actually be a mix of both. Some may cite their hypocrisy as them falling short of perfection, but that is also quite the easy excuse to give when they arent actually trying or dont like something.
I say this because we all have the chance to change our minds and that shows growth. When some are presented with their conflicting values and they either justify it or dont change, then they are either hypocritical or have sliding values.

Many have sliding values and it pains them for this to be mentioned since they are so proud of their moral compass or their view of the world that lacks gray area.
