Joe Biden is apparently a practicing catholic as is Nancy Pelosi. It seems that supporting, or at the very least, enabling the murder of a human being in the womb would be kind of a deal breaker for a Christian.

Not everyone is a single issue voter. There are many who disapprove of abortion but still think it should be legal for other reasons, the main one being that making it illegal wont stop it but instead create a dangerous black market.

It’s not just abortion. I’m sure you can think of a few solidly liberal views that don’t jive with canon law. Celebration of Transgenderism and homosexuality to name a few. I guess if you see you see yourself as a politician first and much further down, a Christian, when it’s convenient, it makes sense.

I wouldn’t spend much time shopping for Christian values in today’s political scene. The current GOP president has 5 kids from 3 separate marriages.

That’s child’s play compared to king Solomon. Try 700 wives and 300 concubines

That was a very odd read that creates more questions than it answers. I feel like I just peered into the mind of a scrambled egg.

He was a very great sinner, much like the orange one, and you and me for a matter of fact. Either way, Christianity didn’t exist then.

It's hard to beat the current gentleman in office at being a Christian only when it's convenient.

Aside from a symbolic photo op, you don’t see trump feigning religious beliefs. To say otherwise would be disingenuous. As a matter of fact, he has disappointingly said the opposite, but at least Nancy prays for him.

That’s likely by design.

America magazine wants people to think about different issues, which isn’t surprising considering the Jesuits value education and research.

I really don’t care if the President is Christian or not. That is between him and God. The point I do care is if protects my right to be Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc.

Catholicism has deep ties to social justice (not in its current form). Catholicism is more supportive of giving to the poor, ect. The pro-life movement and Supreme Court justices are almost exclusively a fetishism of white, Evangelical Protestants.

Some people can feel that something is morally wrong without it being illegal.

Honestly I’m not sure why so many Christians are Republicans:
- Constantly trying to remove aid for the poor, sick, and elderly
- Want to remove protections from minorities, gays, and other classes discriminated against
- Do not want to protect the environment we are untrusted with
- Believe in money above all other values

I guarantee Jesus does not approve of either party’s platform.

Believe it or not Democrat’s used to be the party of the working man before it was hijacked to be the party of activism. The eastern seaboard population centers were heavy catholic and heavy unionized workers. Democrats were their champion (see JFK). A lot of folks lock in to a certain party and never change for any reason. Too much team blue or team red and not enough team rational thinking.

Southerners used to vote democratic nationally until the civil rights act. That is the reason the south broke away from the Democratic Party nationally. It ties into what you and the OP stated. Their parents were Catholic so they are Catholic, their parents were Democrats so they are Democrats.

FIFY.

For many corrupt Dems, "wokeness" is how they pander for votes while blatantly serving the interests of the donor class that funds their campaigns and cushy retirements. The former is not the problem, the latter is.

Hahahahahabahahahaha!!!!!

You would need to drill down to find out what it really means to be a Christian.

At the expense of me wasting a lot of time tapping on this little keyboard to try and explain that with so many non-believers and part-time believers on here:

Do this:

Start with Chapter 1 of Genesis and read to the Final Verse in Revelations. Read it the way you would a College Football magazine though, so that you get really deep into it. But..... if you don’t read the Bible with the heart of a newborn Christian, completely open to what it says, you just as well be reading the instructions on how to build a Space Shuttle. It will not mean a thing to you.

Thank god someone decided to add religion to the politics on here. Everyone was being way too nice to each other and rational. *********

Being Christian should not automatically mean you are in either party. I’d caution anyone listening to any evangelical saying so.

They are not real Catholics. Just claim to be.
Get out of here with that BS. Question my politics all you want but don’t questions people’s faith. Until a party makes birth control and whacking off illegal a party affiliation is not going to align with Catholic teachings. My Democratic leanings are strongly influenced by me being more of a dove (a Catholic tenet) and concern for the least of our people (a Catholic tenet). Again, I am morally opposed to abortion but I do not believe it should be completely illegal.

I think there are a few reasons:

1. Most "christians" are nominal christians only. Their parents took them to some Easter services so now they call themselves Christian.
2. Some "Christian" churches are not even christian.
3. Central American catholic and North American catholic are not the same religion.
4. The ones that are true biblical Christians are still black hearted sinners that do stuff like get divorced and remarried, give in to pride and selfishness, ......

I agree that sanctity of life should be a deal breaker and I personally will never support any democrat as llong as they support/ promote abortion. That's my choice and everyone else has theirs.

I honestly don’t understand how a Christian can support the death penalty or abortion. The 2 kinda go along the same lines for me. I don’t think any of us should own deciding who lives and who does not, just not our place.

Often wondered this myself, also seems to capture the Jewish vote. Never understood this, the Republican administrations seem to support the State of Israel much more than Democratic ones. One would think that would be a priority for them. I also don't understand the hatred for Catholics and Jews, resulting in the violence against them in this country.

I don't want a preacher telling me how to vote or a politician telling me how to pray

I honestly don’t understand how a Christian can support the death penalty or abortion.

Interestingly, many Protestant denominations that are now pro-life were pro-choice into the late 70s. It’s an interesting history lesson to look at that evolution.
