I've penciled in Woodard as returning because he'd be an idiot not to. Welcome back Robert. Someone gonna have to grey shirt.

We are big and we are very athletic. Deivon Smith is impressive. I don't think he's left the gym or weight room since arriving.

This team has developed the mental toughness

Required to play in a silent arena. This is our year.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Woodard too, but I honestly thing it will all come down to the plan for college basketball this Fall. If they figure it out, it seems that there’s at least a 50/50 shot he comes back. If the season’s cancelled or even postponed, I think there’s a 110% chance he’s taking whatever $$ he can get to play pro ball.

As far as the roster goes, I feel better than I did a couple months ago for sure. That said, out of 13 guys, there are basically 4 that we’ve ever seen play. Guys are going to have to find their roles quickly the season

Rosebowl said the other day that he was leaning towards returning. Honestly, I doubt Woodard really has a good idea right now.

Gotta believe it all hinges on football. If they figure it out then basketball has to be a lock to happen in some fashion.

And Rosey has been accurate as 17 on his perditions recently. Did he say anything about an asteroid?

Woodard is essentially playing with house money. He was going to be a gamble for any team trying to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a guy that’s not proven anything in college. His stock was indication of potential, current body size and genes. Woodard is a very good college player and will be amongst the elite if he stays in college....but he is nowhere near an NBA rostered player at this point.

Its really a no brainer.. His stock will not drop at all, regardless of what he does at MSU. It can only go up.

Wat?
His stock can't drop? Of course it can.
He has been projected as a draft pick beyond his production, so that projection can absolutely drop if he comes back.
Obviously, injury could drop his stock. Beyond that though, a lack of improvement in his game could drop his stock. An overflow at his projected position could drop his stock. Improving but not at the level some want could drop his stock.

All these happen every year to players who return after being projected in the draft higher than production.

No grey shirt required... State has reduced scholarhips to 12 this year but they were given an option to have 13 this year or next allowing thus Allowing Woodard to come back if he wants and not force someone out.

Woodard is interesting to me, outside looking in. I think he’s got more upside in the modern NBA than Perry (both have a chance to be legitimate NBA players). It will all come down to does a team feel like he’s worth a shot in the late first round. He’s got a smooth jumper that’s continuing to develop, and an NBA body. I could see him becoming a solid 3 and D rotational player (see Terrence Davis with Toronto).

The part that’s interesting is, can he elevate that stock by coming back? Especially in what is expected to be a deeper 2021 draft class. He probably could, if he demonstrates he can be a go-to isolation scorer, but he’s not shown much of that yet. I’m just fascinated by drafts and projections, and obviously familiar with MSU players, due to watching them 2nd behind OM. I like Woodard a lot, would love to see him in Memphis or somewhere like Houston who can maximize his skill set. I’d also like to see what kind of gear he could have as “the guy” in college.

Smith and Molinar in the backcourt together will be tough to stop. Smith is a freak of an athlete at his height and jumping ability!

You are correct on all of those.... Also, a space rock could hit the hump tomorrow. There’s actually a chance of that happening as well.

I know you are a natural contrarian but I still believe he’s playing with house money. When I say that his stock will not drop, barring injury, if he comes back and has the same type of season....he won’t lose anything. He will gain way more by staying....but you already know that.

I realize that he could also go 0-67 from behind the arc....I also realize that it’s possible he could technically shoot 15% from the field...losing stock....

but I guess I assumed we had moved on from 2+2=4 and we could all use common sense here. There’s been no trend in his game of a relapse.

Gonna be a tough call on whose sixth man between Molinar, Stewart and Johnson. I'm guessing it's Molinar who takes over that Tyson Carter role.

I was hoping Woodard would be a "David West" type player. Similar build although West has 2 inches more but Robert has a long wingspan. Woodard is athletic enough to develop that mid-range jumper and strong enough to seek that position on the court. If you can knock down those mid-range jumpers consistently, and even though the NBA has changed styles, there would be a market for him. You have to crash the boards too.
