Well, the Dems/Repubs are winning in creating dividing lines and solidifying a "base" that hates the image that their respective party paints of the other party. But truth, nah, none of that to be had. Plenty of Koolaid drinkers on both sides lapping up and repeating the party mantra with no thought whatsoever. So yeah, ignorance is winning as well.

A lot of money and power in the 2 party existing establishment. A divided population dug in on protecting their side preserves that. A population that might reach out across the aisle might take a look back on the lack of progress either side has made in the last X years and might start dumping incumbents left and right.

Link to this teargassing of peaceful protesters in locations that haven't been burned, vandalized, and looted constantly in the past 6 weeks? Would love to see them. I'm not saying there's zero. But the vast, VAST majority have been justified.

-Burn it a month ago.
-Burn it a week ago.
-"I can't believe these mean officers are teargassing and dispersing my peaceful protest this week".

Why? You can google. You've already moved your goalposts from it doesn't happen. You've now given yourself an out to say it doesn't matter how many times it's happened. You clearly don't care. Fascists never do.

Only way it changes is for non-partisans to accept that one side is fundamentally worse and vote it out, and be vocal about it. Getting non-partisans to throw their hands up and check out is how the system perpetuates.

You mean the cathedral that was burned in a riot is one of the examples? 17 off douche.

And we know they would NevARRRR riot in St Louis***** You don't get to "peaceful protest" with fires burning all around you. The fact that you dumb 17s don't understand this just reassures me of your lack of actual threat to the establishment you are trying to burn to the ground.

Well on the one hand you have guy intentionally breaking the law and being destructive. On the other hand you have guy trying to stop all that in trying circumstances. I'm going to err on the side of the guy not out to cause trouble and break the law in the first place. 90+% of success in life can be found by simply being where you should be and doing what you should be doing. I suppose I could complain that I was just an innocent bystander if I were to come into contact with say, tear gas, while just walking my dog down that same street during a time that they were trying to clear the streets to reign in destruction and violence, however, that would be a stupid position.

We need a new Reagan....not that everyone would agree with his politics, but he was a leader and a uniter. We could use a House Speaker more like Tip O'Neill, too (again, not necessarily in political views, but the desire to move the country forward). Those two had nothing in common politically and opposed each other on almost everything. But they famously got together for drinks at the White House on a regular basis and managed to hammer out compromises.

I would vote for just about any real leader who emerged from either party.

Viscous cycle. It takes an incredible amount of money/power to run, hence, a person needs the power/money of one of the parties to have a chance. Trump failed to gain ground as Democrat, had a failed run as an Independent, and only succeeded after taking over a Republican party that was somehow in a weak enough position to let it happen. And he only was able to win because Dems put forth the same old next in line worn out candidate, in Hillary. They are doing the same with Joe. He's "earned" his shot at President because of his lifetime of toeing the party line and being a good Democrat all the while constantly positioning himself for the next position. This election is like an ugliest dog competition.

It is possible that one day, one of the major parties will put forth a decent human as a candidate, but it is highly unlikely.

You sure seem triggered by something that isn't an "actual threat to the establishment". Or do you just take advantage of any opportunity to lick fascist boots?

By all means then, lets just let these asshats burn and destroy whatever the hell they want to then since it won't topple the federal government. Or do you take any opportunity to lick anarchists boots with no conern for the actual citizens losing their life savings when their business goes up in flames or they're beat damn near to death or shot and killed in the CHOP zone and medics are refused entry to treat them? No threat to the establishement so kids will be kids.

The cathedral was damaged by fire the night before. Had those cops come in and pepper sprayed them then and there I would agree with you. At the time of Trumps photo op folks were just standing around, some of those folks were the very priest who worked in the cathedral and were in the courtyard basically minding their own business and determining how to go about cleaning up. That was nothing more than a self aggrandizing photo op by Trump.

I would go even further and say that Trump sending in the troops in Portland is more of the same. Trump is sagging badly in the polls and the majority of Americans think he handled the corona virus terribly. He needs a boost in the polls and attacking protestors in largely Democratic cities plays well with his base.

Pretty bad take. Polls pretty consistent throughout the primary. Young voters favored Bernie 55 to 5. Old voters favored Biden 55 to 5. The old voters voted more than the young ones. Is what it is. Old voters vote, and not just of their own volition, the system is setup to encourage it. GOP has benefited from that for a long time. So much so that they've become reliant on it. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Kinda accidentally strategically brilliant of the Dems to nominate someone that eats at that base of olds.

If it was just that, no one would be arguing. I'm going to err on the side of citizens rights. That means some criminals will get away with crimes. I'm ok with that. Cops have to act with probable cause, not out of convenience. They've lost sight of that, and we can't fix it by putting our heads down and ignoring it.
