This board took a HUGE left turn when Cohen was hired. It doesn’t even seem debatable at this point. I wish I was clueless as to Cohens political viewpoints, as an athletic dept should be run, but it’s spilling over. FWIW, I support KH and the flag change, but it’s getting weird in here.

This board went from good ole baw dove hunting and steak talk to social justice suffragettes starting around when Cohen was hired. His household political viewpoints are well known, but I prefer an apolitical Athletic Department. From Vic bouncing for no apparent reason (only speculative) to Cohen forcing Leach into a clusterfrick of a situation about a pathetic nothingburger of a tweet turned sinisterly racist made worse by decisions to Frankenstein a dead story.

Bro are you drunk? There's stupid posts, there's Goat's posts and then there's these two posts. You should actually be pretty damn thankful for Cohen right now. Leach tweeted the noose meme joke on April 1st, George Floyd got murdered on May 25th. Had Leach made that post after Floyd got killed it woulda been an infinitely worse reaction. Let that **** die out already. Nobody and I mean absolutely nobody was thinking about it till you decided to bring it back up again.

He also successfully got Leach the hell off twitter. Leach was a ticking time bomb on social media the way he was tweeting like a house wife on facebook to her close circle of 12 friends. I mean I'm sorry you no longer get to enjoy Leach's sense of humor on twitter but it's a small price to pay since he has a lot of people that are fine combing every single thing he does so they can use it against him in recruiting. He's no longer at WSU anymore. The rest of the SEC doesn't want MSU being a threat in football. They will use whatever they can to hurt our image so "poor ol Miss State" keeps on staying little to them. You think it's bad now just wait till we skull drag someone like LSU or Bama once or twice. The heat will get burning hot then and those schools will get really dirty trying to push us back down.

I don’t, nor have I ever been a twitter user, but nice tangent. We don’t deserve Leach, particularly The segment of our fans that feel offended by everything.

Which fans are those exactly? You don't like some of the replies in threads like these and that's fine but you should always pay attention to who starts these threads and not as much the few responses in them you don't like. If Ibdancin doesn't start another bs poli bait thread you never have to read the few replies that you don't like. 1000% of these threads that include the few replies you don't like are always started by the same half a dozen posters and they ALL lean the same way politically. Maybe you should ask Ibdancin why he's always starting threads that eventually get you pissed off?

Huge difference between “don’t like” and don’t agree with. I’m not pissed off....not even close. As long as we all treat each other with a mutual respect, I’m good. Honestly, it’s a shame more Americans don’t have thicker skin than what we see today. I can understand why you confuse disagreement with conflict.

The police officer in the streets take orders. Their is a hierarchy in cities. In many areas, those officers have been told to not engage even when a person is getting beat down. That actually happened this weekend. In Denver, the head of the Police Union clearly stated that an order was given to retreat.

My question is why are these things only happening in Dem controlled cities.

Someone asked 'libs' what should be done and i answered.
Your response to my answer is confusing as I cant tellnif you agree with it or disagree with it. Its as if you quoted me but didn't intend to actually post based on my answer to the other poster's question.

As for your question, I have no idea why it's only happening in democratic run cities. Is it actually only happening in democratic run cities?...i don't know that either, and i sure as **** wouldn't rely on your half truthin *** to tell me. Large urban areas are often more liberal/democratic in local government so that could easily explain things. Only 4 of the 25 largest cities in the US have republican mayors. So odds are high there if there is unrest in a city, it will be in one with a democratic mayor.

The board didn’t change politically. Because of all the political discussion and Covid19 discussion (that’s ultimately political) and lack of sports discussion you see what posters leanings are. I honestly hate it because now people will argue with others or try to discredit others because they have a predisposed opinion of the politics of said poster...but what are you going to do. The cat is out of the bag.

Its really funny that you are blaming Cohen for this. He became our AD in the Fall of 2016...Did anything else happen around that same time that highlighted the political divide in our nation??

Yeah, except this is the United States of America, not some goddamned police state.

I'm my 46 years of walking this planet I've never broken a store front. Never looted. Never set a car or building on fire. Never thrown a frozen water bottle at police. Never defaced public property. Now call it coincidence, but I've also never been tazed, hit with a nightstick, had tear gas launched at me, or in any way assaulted by a member of law enforcement. I'm thinking there just might be a connection.

It's almost like if you never put yourself in a position to have those things done to you then you wouldn't have a reason to destroy and throw giant temper tantrums. But that would take personal responsibility and maturity, decreasing lost traits in today's entitlement culture.

Stop playing games with them and do what Reagan did! Grown people advocating for things like this should be ashamed.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/portland-riots-federal-officers-blinded-lasers-fireworks-doxed

The proper analogy here would be being in a crowd when bottles were thrown by others. I've been in such a crowd several times......at State games. And the cops didn't respond by teargassing the crowd or kidnapping potential witnesses as they ARE in Portland. Try to find the perps and enforce the law on them. If you cant, you don't take it out on the innocent crowd you 17ing fascists.

A disturbingly large section of America just cannot grasp the concept that their Rights can only be ensured and protected by ensuring they apply to others as well. It's a miracle we have any left.

That’s a huge reach. Students at a football game aren’t setting concession stands on fire, stealing concourse electronics, spray painting the field, damaging the stadium, or assaulting the opposing fans. If they were then most likely they’d get teargassed, and taken away by police.

Common sense would help a lot of those people. Or better parenting.

Most protests aren't doing those things either when the tear gas comes out. You either support it in principle, or you don't. Give the govt that power over your rights, and you won't get to tell it where to draw the line. Tiananmen Square is a good example.

So you think America is just teargassing and dispersing peaceful protests? Seriously? You lose the right of "peaceful protest" when you or someone else has just come thru there and burned/looted everything. Once stuff is burning all around you -- everyone is a suspected arsonist. That is true. That is profiling. And that is the core job of a good police officer. And the core job of a good citizen is that once the **** is hitting the fan all around them -- and activities they don't condone and wouldn't want to be seen associated with begin happening -- either fight to stop the activities and accept the consequences if you don't have the force to make it stop -- or get the hell out of there. That's common sense 101, and it's weird to have to explain. No one is getting teargassed at peaceful protests in Mississippi -- because people haven't burned or looted anything yet. Causation, correlation.

Absolutely no comparison whatsoever. These people are attacking federal facilities and the officers in charge of protecting them. If you are in with a crowd of people doing this and choose to stay in said crowd, whether you are a hands on perp or not yourself, you are part of a lawless mob and deserve to be treated as such.

I can’t speak for Mississippi, but this happened up here in Huntsville.....riot gas was deployed simply based on protesters “not dispersing”. This was also a protest at a city park, not exactly like folks were closing down an interstate or anything.

Link to this teargassing of peaceful protesters in locations that haven't been burned, vandalized, and looted constantly in the past 6 weeks? Would love to see them. I'm not saying there's zero. But the vast, VAST majority have been justified.

-Burn it a month ago.
-Burn it a week ago.
-"I can't believe these mean officers are teargassing and dispersing my peaceful protest this week".

I don't perceive it as giving up my rights. I suppose that if they begin to randomly arrest people who are not breaking the law, then I'll be concerned. My taxes pay for all of these public buildings (federal ones all over, local ones in MS). There is already enough waste in the government, without having to rebuild every building that some rioter wants to destroy to make a point. And honestly, the destructive ones have no point to make except an affinity for anarchy and blaming others for their unfortunate station in life. I'm not sure of the exact answer, but just letting people take over whatever they feel like isn't it.

I mean you likely lock your doors at night. It's unlikely that you would take kindly to anyone occupying your place for a "good cause". It's yours. You paid for it, and most likely, you are the one who says who comes/goes, how well or poorly it is kept up, etc. If someone were to come break a window out and start a home invasion tonight, I doubt that you would be having a dialogue with them about their exact reasons, are they unemployed, hungry, broke, drug addled, been mistreated at some point in their life, etc. You will respond with whatever force you have to protect it and your family, even if that means just calling the cops or a fistfight.

Yes. Because they are.

********.

The truth is that FAR too little force nationally has been used in quelling these things. The lack of swift and overwhelming response is what’s given the confidence to keep burning ****. The overall police response to this **** has been borderline miraculous in the lack of lethal force employed under constant threat of bodily harm and death.

There’s definitely a difference between a riot and a peaceful protest. But you lose the benefit of the doubt being peaceful when stuff is still smoking all around you.

You know, there's ample video available to prove how hilariously idiotic your take is. If you are not burning and looting, but you are alongside people who are and cheering them on, you're just as guilty as they are.

Your problem is ignorance, willful or otherwise, of what's really going on. Take time to educate yourself and you will reap the benefits that come with it.

This board is something else right now, I had no idea our country was as divided as it is. Most have zero interest in hearing anyone else’s point of view, and both sides have backed into their respective corners. Where does it end with civil war?

Federal agents are not gassing innocent peaceful protesters that are following the directions that the agents are giving them, that is not happening.......period. If a mob is approaching a federal courthouse and throwing commercial fireworks at it.........that is not a peaceful protest!

I am 100% for anyone’s right to peacefully protest, even for a cause that I 100% disagree with. However, trying to burn down federal buildings and throwing frozen water bottles at cops, cannot be considered peaceful under any definition of the word peaceful.

Wrong. I don’t want my AD making any political statements. That should be the expectation because any statement one way or another will alienate a segment of the fanbase when the job of the AD is to unite the fan base behind the team and university.

Shouldn't we have the same expectations from our President? Shouldn't he be trying to unite these United States instead of constantly tweeting inflammatory comments or claiming "there's good people on both sides of the issue" after some white supremacists plows into a group of protestors? Where's that comment in regards to other protestors, you know, the ones he doesn't care for.

FWIW I agree with your basic premise that people in places of authority should be careful when speaking because their words carry a lot of weight. They should be trying to unite folks instead of dividing them. But it's hard for me to expect that from some AD of a school many folks, outside of this group, could care less about and yet give a hall pass to the leader of this country.

We have no good leadership at the top of this country. Only a self aggrandizing narcissist who really isn't interested in you or me or our common welfare but is interested only in how he looks.

Furthermore your wish to silence the opinions of others sounds a lot like what the cancel culture is trying to do. I dislike that as well. Freedom of speech for all, not just the chosen few.

But they are arresting people that aren't breaking the law (not exactly randomly though). That's what started the recent hubub about Portland.

There's also the disconnect of resisting the use of federal power to provide covid testing and PPE but we get the full force of govt power for.....grafitti.

The charitable view is that the federal officers made decisions that individually seemed reasonable, but didn't grasp the overall effect that they were arresting folks without probable cause while being unidentifiable. That crosses a line worse than protesters throwing bottles or firecrackers. Normally someone near the top would acknowledge the mistake, apologize, and pledge it will be fixed, but this Admin just can't do that for whatever reason. If you're going to do that then double down on it, the only thing to describe it is fascist.

Personally, I have a higher bar for acceptable conduct from the federal govt than I do from fringe protestors.

I can't keep up with this **** any longer.

Truths:

Peaceful protesting - good and part of healthy society
Violent mobs - bad and leads to anarchy.
Police checking violent mobs with force - good and part of healthy society.
Police checking peaceful protestors with force - bad and leads to totalitarianism.
Honest media coverage - good and part of healthy society.
CNN and Fox takes - bad and leads to I don't know what.

Y'all tell me if you think you can get a fair take on the current events of anything any longer. I honestly can't skim through a handful of news outlets right and left and feel like I can get an honest take on the topic du jour. News is set up to validate emotions now, not provide facts and observations. I don't know if anyone is winning with it being that way, except incumbent politicians and a handful of media execs.

We need a new Reagan....not that everyone would agree with his politics, but he was a leader and a uniter. We could use a House Speaker more like Tip O'Neill, too (again, not necessarily in political views, but the desire to move the country forward). Those two had nothing in common politically and opposed each other on almost everything. But they famously got together for drinks at the White House on a regular basis and managed to hammer out compromises.

I would vote for just about any real leader who emerged from either party.
