I've thought about it, and we should allow professional sports as we know it to die. These guys make too much money and have too much of a platform to act like "pre-madonnas", and I dont see them steering our youth in a positive direction. I will miss being the consumate fourth in my fantasy league. College sports will crumble too, but maybe when the dust settles, sports will be played for sports again. Bring on the purge.

Rodman said Madonna wasn’t all that and she offered him $20 Million to knock her up... that’s classic pre-Madonna.

"Republicans" will complain about kneeling etc.....they will still buy the sneakers. Clay Travis and his followers will mock woke ESPN but still watch games, buy tickets and go to games.

Seems like you’re not keeping up.

ESPNs ratings have been declining for years and are a record lows. Kneeling decreased NFL ratings by almost 20% in a matter of weeks.

Athletes can say whatever they want, and I can spend my money as I choose as well. They will eventually bite the hand that feeds too much and realize that their salaries are directly tied to fan interest. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe their premier will bail them out with all that sweet china money. Amiright, comrade?

NFL ratings are back to where they were in 2016. 2015 was the highest year.

I think most people will gravitate back to sports regardless.

Going to be interesting to see how America responds to it. I am thinking the NBA is most popular in major metro’s, but not so much outside that.

seemed like ratings for the NFL were impacted in a negative fashion during all the anthem protest. Be interesting to see if this years demonstrations will turn more away again or not. If the nfl does have games then ticket sales will go down from not being able to fill to capacity I expect. Wonder if they will keep viewers.

Yep. Pro sports can do whatever they want. Pro sports will survive.

College sports may die one day but not because of fans protesting liberalism.

the nfl took a pro flag stance as well. additionally, they largely quit showing the national anthem altogether on broadcasts after making it a big deal for a while.

NFL owners have unanimously approved a new national anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance but gives them the option to remain in the locker room if they prefer

they were facing serious backlash from the pro anthem standing people.

Yea, because once ratings started dropping like a bag of ice, that quit showing it, and ratings recovered.

The data is extremely clear on this in 2017 if you want to look it up.

What if we just eliminated the anthem from the pregame? It is supposed to be about the United States of America but we are no longer united as a people.

Hell... it would speed up the game.

I’ve always wondered why we do that. As far as I know, we’re the only country in the world that plays the national anthem before every sporting event. I understand playing it before big events like all star games or championship games, but it doesn’t need to be before every game. It’s not like we would forget how it goes.

I agree. I firmly believe only old white dude snowflake trump supporters should be protected by the 1st amendment. You give all these young black athletes money and an education and then all want to do is complain about systemic racism and police brutality. It's like, "I came here to watch to run into people really hard and hurt yourself not too listen to talk about stuff."

Eliminate the bolded part and you're exactly right. Internet polls are meaningless - most don't even limit the number of times a person can vote.

And why only sporting events...which are attended solely for recreation / entertainment and no other reason? We don’t play it at the office before we start our work day. Teachers don’t play it for kids before school. We don’t play it before concerts, plays, magic shows, or movie theaters when we are all gathered as an audience in other settings. We don’t play it before church. Hell, we don’t even play it before actual patriotic events like 4th of July fireworks displays.

Everybody up in arms about what people do and don’t do during the anthem has always been interesting to me, because the playing of the anthem at sporting events has always been completely arbitrary to begin with. None of that is to mean I’m that guy with his hat on chatting it up while the music is being played, but its hard not to think about how random it is.

Hopefully no more sports ever so we can keep talking about politics**

I can’t wait for it to start back. I don’t know if that is this year or not but whenever, I’ll be watching. Covid has made me realize that the only tv I enjoy watching is sports. I’m not really a movie or tv show guy. So, I’m ready for it to start back. Don’t care what the athletes do during the anthem. That is their prerogative.

Notwithstanding her lack of overall musical talent, Madonna was a force in the 80's and early 90's. I always thought it was her mentality that overshadowed her musical ability, but she did have some hits. It was her personal relationships that allowed her to ride the wave of success as long as she could.

My hopelessly naive mother bought me his biography, “Bad as I Wanna Be” when I was 12 or 13. I don’t know what my face looked like when I read the line where Madonna asked, “Are you not gonna eat my ***** (that gives 5 star a whole other meaning) to get me warmed up?”, but I have a pretty vivid imagination. Let’s just say it affected me another to remember it almost verbatim a quarter century later.
