Either serious or, and this could result in thread lockdown, a spoof name.

It is a target rich environment for spoof names.

Need alliteration for the new name, whatever it might be. I don't like Washington Warriors though (one of the names floating around).

Looks like the Texas Rangers are coming under fire now for some reason. There seems to be no end (although I never liked using the R word for a team name - it's always been derogatory to American Indians and the Washington NFL team name should have been changed many years ago).

While we're at it, Washington's NBA team name, the Wizards, needs to be changed. The name is strongly associated with the KKK, even though that wasn't the intent.

A part of me wonders if they resurrected the Bullets, would anyone bat an eye these days?

Washington Wombats - but PETA and other animal rights groups might object.
Washington Warriors- No Golden State and pacifist would object
Nothing military related, again pacifist would object.
Navajo Nation suggested code talkers but future generations may object.
so after all those above may be objectionable I am going with.....

WASHINGTON BUREAUCRATS - an official in a government department, in particular one perceived as being concerned with procedural correctness at the expense of people's needs.

Was thinking about that earlier, what it would look like if the NBA team was still the Bullets and trying to change names today. That happened around 1995 I think? I recall people making a couple jokes but not especially caring because... well, I guess because they weren't fans of DC's NBA team?

Social media is WILD.

Washington Powdered Wigs

Or plenty of good minor league baseball team names to pick from.. Yard Goats, Rumble Ponies, River Bandits, Sod Poodles, Mud Hens, Rough Riders..

First game would be the longest in NFL history. They would also show up at a high school field for the first game and decree they are in the right place and everyone else is wrong. They could subpoena the other team’s playbook and profit by using it themselves after they declare your plays against the rules. Halftime would be 4 hours. Holding and pass interference is legal for them, everyone else still gets flagged for it but only now you are fined for it too.

I think they should embrace the DC identity. Washington Swamp Monsters or Swamp Things has potential.

I like Washington Lobbyists or Washington Bureaucrats, but would have to have a made up mascot to go along with either I think.

Washington Leeches doesn't appeal the same way for some reason. Also would not lend itself to a mascot.

They could recycle the Washington Federals name from the old USFL days. They do play at FedEx Field so that would kinda work too.

I've watched old western movies, as most have, and I've never seen it used in a positive manner.

I've got a friend who's a far left-winger, grew up in Washington. Everything offends him - except the name Redskins. Being a fan of the team matters.

"Federal" has a dominating connotation. ** Maybe the Washington Senators could be resurrected, but that and Representatives has sort of crooked meaning. Maybe the Presidents?

How about DC-AC?

There's always an *******....

Why don't the Redskins have a new nickname planned yet? Probably because some realtor in Alexandria beat them to the punch and trademarked every single possible new Redskins nickname. Well, played sir. pic.twitter.com/0an4apXaZy— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) July 13, 2020

I remember when the Federals played the LA Express. Lots of puns on ESPN that night.

To be fair

They were just about always the bad guy, so everything about them was considered bad.

Maybe they should be the Comancheros. That should strike fear.

The worst thing is that they didn't change the name for the right reason. They only changed it once they found out that FedEx would no longer support them. It was financial.

Mississippi did the same thing with the state flag. They changed it because of sports, and the fact that no post season play would happen (and possibly other teams might not play our teams during the regular season). The change was also done for money to a great degree, not the right reason. Even then, it almost didn't change.

Maybe I’ve missed it but I’ve never heard the term “red skin” in a western and had it stand out.

In contrast, if I hear the N word in a movie or even a rap song, it really stands out.

Washington Colonials....or is that also offensive to Native Americans?

I don't get the allure of Redtails...assuming we are talking about the Tuskegee Airmen and not a hawk, isn't there still a racial element?
