A lot can happen in 1 year. Not so much in 1 month.

So if no vaccine and virus is still around and people are dying this time next year.... do we play football then?

We very likely will have a vaccine. We will have better treatments. It will be better understood. The most stubborn of us will finally bail on their pretend patriot protect my rights act and make some behavior changes. Herd immunity could come into play. It might mutate and fizzle out. It might mutate and make life even more painful. Pretty useless speculating life 1 year from now when there are decisions that have to be made now for the immediate future

Okay, how dumb do you think he is? If the Big12 or ACC actually does play this season and the SEC gets left behind partly because Sankey has been advocating for sitting on our asses, how long do you think he'll be cashing checks?

If that scenario plays out, I'll be right there with you, but there is absolutely no evidence of this kind of negligence. This is awfully speculative of you to assume a person ascends to such an important and influential position by being a check casher.

I'm hoping they just go ahead and cancel the season. I would prefer that to some half *** short season. Every player keeps the eligibility and we get prepared for next season. This season will be a cluster17 if they decide to play last minute

Kylin and KJ ain’t hanging around .... the NFL says they aren’t changing their draft.... also say goodbye to almost every non chain restaurant in Starkville, most all MSU apparel related businesses, Starkville will return to the 80’s....except with higher taxes and empty buildings.

No it's not. It's repeated on this board daily as a reason, if not the sole reason, we should play. That plus local economic impact.

Your liability is job loss at a minimum. I assume you could manage a lot of risk with covid waivers, but lawyers are pretty crafty at getting around waivers when there's plenty of money around.

There's not a lot of established norms in playing sports in a pandemic. I guess a kid could sign a piece a paper saying he accepts the risk of playing, but does he have all the information he needs to have to make a well informed decision for him? Many may have choice but to sign a liability waiver even if they didn't want to. Everyone understands there's a risk of injury, stroke, etc. playing sports. That's inherent and not really relevant to pandemic.

Do we truly know the risks playing football this fall? I'm not sure anyone can say that they do and if you try to push that risk down to kids that earn a scholarship and the protected parties made a nice profit, I'm not sure you don't get lit up by an army of lawyers in a swiftness. I couldn't make that call and sleep at night to be honest.

How is that not related to the pandemic? The “pandemic” is another risk in a long line of risks playing football and organized sports.

How can you type that seriously?

How is that not related to the pandemic? The “pandemic” is another risk in a long line of risks playing football and organized sports.

Name one season since 1918 that involved managing the risks presented a novel virus pandemic.

We have defensive practice standards to prevent heat stroke. We have physicals to detect unique health risks to individual players. You can only go so far to prevent injuries with training and equipment, but that's a risk that players are brought up understanding (except maybe long term impacts of brain injury). A player has had a lifetime to walk away from that risk.

Pandemic risk is unique. It's new. It's not fully understood. Are you comfortable articulating the actual risks, both short and long term? Doubtful. Also doubtful that school administrators, athletics programs, and the players understand it well enough to make a reasonable decision. At the moment it's based on haunches and assumptions that the general population is impacted the same way an athlete would be training at the level they do. We don't have any prior history with that.

If things went south and you have kids getting seriously ill out there, is a university going to be able to say "I understood the risks of asking these young adults to play football and did A, B, and C to reasonably protect them from those risks?" I don't get the impression that's the environment they are operating in. The only thing they'll really have if it came down to it is "well, we didn't think young people were at risk, this is an old person's virus, and we made them sign this waiver".

Let me be clear, I don't want the season to be cancelled. I don't want the athletes to have a wrench thrown in their plans. I don't want want the City of Starkville to be negatively impacted. But when you think about it all and how little we really know and how little we appear to be prepared to make any sort of plan happen, you understand pretty quickly why the decisions that are about to be made suck, but ultimately is the only decision that can be made.

When someone dies of a heat stroke someone in the administration usually gets **** canned. And then perhaps hired by Ole Miss.

I’m not reading that ****.

But saying the word “pandemic” doesn’t make Covid 19 any more dangerous to these kids. It’s been regurgitated over and over how almost 100% harmless it it.

He didn’t say keep it shut down he said stop acting like this is a hoax or something political and do your part to help mitigate risks. Had a friend just last week go to a referral hospital for a tumor in his head. No rooms. He was sent back home until next week when they’ve scheduled some more tests. All you people worried about socialized medicine are increasing your wait times for care to match any socialized country just because you don’t like to be told what to do. My kid didn’t like being told that they couldn’t ride their big wheel in the busy street when they were 2 either...

Almost !00% harmless, ha. Tell that to the 136k who've died , tell that to their relatives and friends, and since it's being contracted by mainly people 18-49 tell that to them who get sick with the potential of dying. Yea it's harmless.

I’m speaking towards the college age kids. Reading comprehension man. The death rate is almost 0 and the amount of a symptomatic carriers is enormous.

probably the same reason as you minus the fear mongering

He’s not fear mongering. I’m pretty sure he’s just saying that people need to be smarter to try and slow the spread back down. In other words, don’t be like one of my neighbors that had about 40 people over for a party on the 4th...

But don't cry when adults responsible for others cancel this thing. You can blame leaders having the same ignore it and it goes away attitude attitude as you when we can't have nice things

You’re right, my opinion in the big scheme of things doesn’t matter. And neither does yours.

If you think any decision being made based on money, one way or the other, you’re naive as 17.
