1. An 8-game, All-SEC schedule played every 2 weeks in the fall. Sept. - Dec. No SECCG, No Bowls, no CFP

2. A regularly played schedule starting late February with bowl games and the CFP played in May

As of now 1. Unless there’s a vaccine it won’t be any better in the spring.

Assuming that one or the other is going to happen, I'd want 2. I'd rather wait for a full season than play a season that doesn't mean anything just for the sake of playing.

Yes these organizations moving stuff to the spring are just kicking the can down the road in hopes that the status quo changes when in actuality there’s maybe a 35% chance that things will be any different. Even if a vaccine comes out in record time it’s not like everything will go back to normal overnight. It’s going to take a good 6 mos to a year before enough get it started even going in the direction of eradicating the virus. And yea you could probably get the teams and personnel vaccinated early on but if it’s anything like the flu vaccine it’s only going to protect about 60-70% of those that take it. Yes that will lower the danger significantly but no age group is as social as the 18-22yo’s so that vaccine’s desired effect will be tested early and often and there will still be a few that fall through the cracks.

Option 1. Playing in the spring derails multiple seasons. A limited fall schedule allows you to get back to business as usual a year from now (assuming the situation is better then, which I guess could be a big if).

2.

I don't want to take my chances on what our virus situation will be in October 2020.

Option 1

We're going to learn from the pro leagues starting up at the end of the month. The leagues have financial incentive and frequent testing. If they have to shut it down, college sports won't play in the fall.

1. It's better than nothing and you get to play during normal football months. I can't get into football during Winter or Spring.

Sec has averaged 75 mill annually from the cfp. However this year the sugar is a semi final so that may mean we would have made less this year. I dont know that two more games impacts this. A tv contract is a tv contract

I'd rather have an expanded all-SEC schedule. Go to a 10 game, all-SEC schedule with an SEC championship game at the end.

I disagree. Maybe. We are FINALLY taking the steps that were necessary to slow the spread of the virus, mainly mandating masks. If we can get the transmission rate back below 1, then spread will slow and the number of active infections will decrease. The virus stays active outside of a host for only so long. Its not like the virus will just be lingering in the air waiting for an unmasked victim to come along. Once the number of infections gets low enough, we can isolate cases and conduct effective contact tracing to further minimize spread. This is why Europe is so far ahead of us on this thing.

Now, I don't know if we can get things under control in time for Spring ball. Also, I don't think Colleges can afford to place their players "inside the bubble" like pro sports are currently doing, so even a manageable virus may still be too dangerous to hold football games.

Still, I'm in favor of kicking the can down the road and see what we can accomplish. Take away our college football, and we can do great things in order to get it back.

Option 1 for sure.

I’m still gonna ***** about it though.

Also, might be a good year for some teams to claim a natty.

I think we'll be lucky to play the regular 8-game SEC only schedule this fall.

1, but if there’s any semblance of a season played this Fall, I think that there’s about 0.1% chance that there’d be no CFP. Yeah, some conferences may be out of the running from day 1, but let’s face it... that’s the way it is regardless

This may not come into play but the only good thing about the possibility of no bowls this year is yang we get rid of about 10 of them.
80 teams playing in the postseason is participation trophy stuff.
Should be a reward for a great season.

I don’t disagree on a lot of that, I think our main differences are likelihood of an effective one coming around and it’s success rate.

Is there a plan to make #1 actually happen?

Is there a plan to make any season happen regardless of Sep or Feb? One touching the basics a like testing requirements, attendance guidance, what happens when you get test positive? Who really cares about the number of games right now or if you play conference only. What's the plan to make even one game work?

I mean - I guess we can cross our fingers that it fizzles our naturally in the next month or two, but that's a plan that likely ends in disappointment.

The thing that makes #2 so difficult is are you going to ask these players to play two seasons in 8-9 months? Because if they play in the spring, that’s what would happen.

Plus (and granted this isn’t a big issue for State or OM this year) if you have high caliber NFL prospects, can you even expect them to play in the spring? If I’m Trevor Lawrence, no way I play in the spring and risk getting a severe injury right before the draft. He’s a guaranteed Top 3 pick even if he doesn’t play.

There are no good answers. But, #1 might help keep the athletic departments afloat until 2021.
