At work, we had an intern (college aged male), who shadowed all departments throughout the company to learn about the business. He sat with many people within the company in close proximity to all he shadowed. As far as I know, no one wore masks; things were business as usual. Nearly two weeks ago, the intern is sent home, ill and with a fever. Last Friday he tested positive for THE COVID. All other employees he spent the most time with were tested. He had a "host" who he sat with the most, and who walked him around the company giving him the tour. No one has shown any symptoms or tested positive, including the girl he spent the most time with. So within 2 - 3 feet of people for extended periods of time, without wearing a mask, and no one appears to be sick. Tomorrow will be two weeks, since he was sent home, so we should be in the clear tomorrow.
I also talked to a physicians assistant the other day, and he said everyone he's treated that has tested positive had nothing more than a head cold. I don't know the demographic of his patients, but it's a small Delta town, so I'll assume an older demographic, and probably mostly black.
I find that interesting, and it makes me wonder if we have a milder strain in this area. This doesn't align with all of the fear mongering I'm reading left and right. I know or know of several people that have contracted it, all mostly older, and none were badly ill. The worst cases say it felt like the flu.
Anyway, I thought this place could use another COVID thread. This topic hasn't been discussed enough....****
