Why We Should Rally Around This Flag Design

Every one of us should be proud of being a Mississippian. What was accomplished last week without any major protest or riot should be an example to the nation moving forward. But now its time that we rally around and pressure the committee to choose a flag design that will unite us all and make us proud to fly and display the flag. I fully believe that the correct flag choice for Mississippi is this one from Rocky Vaughn.

Its simple. Its beautiful. And most importantly, its Mississippi. The seal still contains 11 stars for the confederate states so there will always be that. The 20 stars in this flag represent Mississippi as the 20th state and the Magnolia, while more vector than some would prefer - really works well on a flag. Our children can easily recognize it and draw it from memory. This flag has the potential to be the ultimate uniter. For an example, look at the flag of South Carolina.

Easily recognized. And South Carolinians are proud to display it. You see it everywhere, as you would the magnolia.

The colleges of the state have their versions

We could have that - show our pride with the Rocky Vaughn version above.

MSU version

Ole Miss Powder Blue

USM Version (would only have to make 10)

I'm a big fan of this one.

It's impossible to incorporate words into a flag without making it worse, but this does a pretty good job hiding them.

Rocky does great work. That's very nicely designed.

I can't wait for the specially designed 17-stars SixPack flag.**

I hate to say this, but my favorite is the powder blue. Dammit.

By far the best design I've seen.

Simple. Clean. Incorporates "In God We Trust" in an appropriate way. Most importantly, zero nods to the confederacy. I think my only nit would be I'd prefer the emblem and circle to be a tad larger, but aside from that, hoist her up!

Simple and iconic is best, but how do we rally around a design? Will there be a mechanism for the public to make suggestions?

I was gonna say the same Shmuley. Also, put me down for 10% of the expected demand for the USM version. That’s a a damn fine flag.

Committee should be announced tomorrow - might tell us how to submit , but this is the one we all need to push on social media. Maybe Rocky will see this post and provide better college versions.

But this needs to be the one that is pushed. The stripes are beautiful as well, but this one has some capabilities to unite that the ones with stripes lack.

I think the Maroon recolor would look more 'State-centric' if we recolor the green leaves and yellow carpels to the 'Dark Grey' support color #777777.

Yes, there will be the obligatory "submit your design here" after-thought effort that nods to public participation.

Don't worry once the flag is voted on and is flying someone backed by the ACLU will bring a lawsuit against the state to have "In God We Trust" removed. Bank on that.

Exactly. They need to be bombarded with this design. Supertalk mentioned it today during the JT show as their favorite.

I like the idea of a solid background. I'd like to see some designs using a green back ground as well.
I'd really rather not end up with another red and blue flag. It's just so unoriginal.

I totally agree with going with something other than red, white and blue. And I like the green since it points to the agricultural heritage of the state.

I don't have a vote, but I like this one. It's simple and neat.

South Carolina's is recognizable, but the crescent moon is not to scale.

I like this version a lot too. Change the lettering for “In God We Trust” to gold and I think it would be perfect.

Good thing the US Supreme Court already struck down a challenge to that very issue last year.

This is how the Supreme court takes up issues again. They can chose to revisit stuff. Why do you think both sides worry about the Abortion issue every time a Supreme Court seat comes open?

If we can't have the hospitality flag, Rocky's designs are by far the best alternative that I've seen. He's posted a few different combinations with stripes / bars. Hard to choose which would be my favorite. But certainly better than just the lame state seal idea.

I like how he's incorporated the "In God We Trust" better than what they've done with the hospitality flag.

Just about anything better than what we had, but I don't like this at all. For me, it's the graphic of the Magnolia flower. Just ugly...overly-processed. Looks like the kind of thing you thought looked good in the 70's, but later realized it looks awful, only in this case, we wouldn't be able to change the,"bright-colored shag carpet".

You fellas sure know how to make a girl feel special! Lol! I agree on less red (or no red) for numerous reasons. One great thing about this particular design is, it's only 3 colors (white, green, & gold- on blue). I thought about coloring the text gold but decided to keep it as one continuous circle (like original, before words were added). Every time I started a new version, I swear I made the field green (agriculture)... but I always changed it bc it reminded me of Brazil or Jamaica. I also battled with the stripes. Horizontal & vertical ended up resembling another state (Iowa, Missouri, etc...) so I thinned them down a bit. Thanks for compliments on magnolia. Y'all have no idea how difficult it was for me get that damn thang somewhat symmetrical and a little pleasing to the eyes. Ive been told by many that the more realistic magnolia looks better. But I stuck to my guns and went with this one because a well-done flag is symbolic & simplicity can be very powerful when done right.

I was told that they had until July 15 to finalize Flag Commission members. Tate has already chosen his 3 but the rest have not yet (as of yesterday). I emailed Hosemann personally volunteering to help on Committee with a short bio. I have 2 cards left to play and after that, its literally outta my hands.

I missed it mentioned on JT show today but I DID catch it yesterday at the end of SportsTalk. I was so proud that my boys were in the backseat. Lol, I nearly ran off the road due to all the high-fives being thrown. You would have thought 'Dad' saved America or something. It was a proud moment. Thanks B Hadad!

I'm definitely going to do College-Color versions - especially when its all nailed down. 615dawg did a pretty good job editing it himself, tho.

Pack, y'all have always been real good to me and Ive always felt ur support. Even when there's criticism, it still seems to give me another idea. Thanks again, you guys!!

I have word that the committee has been formed. But you should not be on the committee. You should be a preferred artist that will be brought in to showcase designs.

While I think the Stennis/Hospitality flag will be discussed, I don't think it will be the choice - they do not want ANY controversy with Confederate/white supremacy anything.

I do believe that the seal version that was raised in DC yesterday is the "safe pick" but I think they can be swayed. I haven't spoken to anyone that hates this one from your collection. Its just beautiful. And the easy high school/college version is a big plus for uniting. Could you imagine the Saturday after the election, Kylin Hill leads the team on the field with a maroon version? Powder blue versions are raised in the Grove. 10 Black and Gold ones are seen all over NITChampsburg. Millsaps and Alcorn have purple versions, Valley, Delta State and Belhaven have green versions. Madison Central has an orange version and high schools across the state fly it proudly.

That magnolia is a decal next to all the 30A and Yeti stickers signifying state pride.

The whole state is united.

I was wondering if they would choose me due to risking my biased opinion on design. There were just some folks trying to sneak me in using some their connections i think. I WOULD rather show my work(s) and compete for the Win than be a judge (so-to-speak). Now, i gotta start narrowing them down. Please keep me (& the Pack) posted.

Dude, I got chills the way u described kicking off the '20 season!! and you're totally right! I haven't thought of it like that. it'll be ELECTRIC!!

The problem is that guy from Dallas' design is lighting up social media. Jackson news station did an interview with him.

You are killing it in the sports world - Ole Miss fans as well. But the greater masses like this garbage. We need to push yours as Mississippi Made for a Mississippi Moment.

Ive seen this one floating around and people seem to like the simplicity of the magnolia.

Also, someone is ripping you off on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/hjcenk/my_try_at_the_mississippi_redesign/

I suspect the fix is in and the state seal flag will be the one we vote on in November.

That one does not look good at all, and does not remind anyone of anything about MS. The average person would not even know that is supposed to be a magnolia.

I think you are exactly right. That's why we need a big push for Rocky's design. I think you can get the people behind it by selling that it can be used like South Carolina's flag.

We need something that people all over the country will recognize, like South Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. I would love to go to a conference with people all over the country with a Mississippi flag lapel pin and have everyone recognize it immediately as me showing my Mississippi pride.

But for that to happen, it can't be some busy seal, it needs to be a simple and iconic design.

How about we have 4 awesome designs not related to the confederacy in any way and let the people choose the one they like best?
