We held our nose and voted for your goofy ***, and now it's time for you to be a leader and LEAD our state away from the inevitable mess that is forthcoming. You know deep down the right decision that you and the legislat-oors need to make. I know you like to speak in generalities and kowtow to the thousands of simpletons in our state, but you are extremely intelligent and I know that you have a clue about the embarrassment our state is about to go through. YOU are the one that can single handedly turn the tide and get this done.

You have pleasantly surprised many of us by your attentiveness and professionalism during the COVID mess, but we are about to enter a stage that could damage our state's pride, honor, and economy. There are too many influential people in this state who understand the need to change the flag, and I can guarantee that the harm done to our state will be squarely blamed on you if you don't act. You need to let your people know that changing the flag is not "caving to the liberal woke mob" as many of your most loyal voters seem to think. It's not even close and I'm certain that you understand that. So go LEAD....

Just sent him an email. I know I don't live in Mississippi, but I still have a lot of interest in the Mississippi and love the people there.

Absolutely. This is 100% right on, GhostofJackie. Someone mentioned earlier about Tate not listening to a few 100 message board posters. And while that's correct, this is just a few 100 red flares that are going up in the calm before the storm. As governor of the state, he MUST be smart enough to know that what's coming onto shore right now is just the outer bands. Anybody who thinks the NCAA, Kylin Hill, and Marcus Murphy are the end of it are fooling themselves. He's got Hurricane Katrina that's coming to make landfall in months, if not weeks. The job of a leader is to have some ability to see cause and effect and what happens down the road if actions are or are not taken. If he's reading this as the "woke mob" coming for the Jefferson Memorial and that there is going to be a significant national conservative resistance and defense of this and that it will all blow over, he's grossly misread the situation. NOBODY of any notoriety or consequence is going to be there to defend the Confederate battle flag emblem and our state's choice to continue to embrace it on our flag. It's not going to be there. Doing anything other than immediately changing it by legislative action is a suicide mission. And if he's too dumb enough to see it coming, then God help the state of Mississippi. It's fat hanging curveball, Tater!! Swing the damn bat!!!

What's holding this back from being done in the legislature is an extremely loud minority being led by people like Chris McDaniel. The elected leaders from the more conservative districts are really getting it handed to them right now by this loud minority. Most of them know this needs to be done but they are frightened. What they don't understand is that this whole flag issue will be forgotten about in a few months by most people, and these uber conservatives will be re-elected either way.

It's ok to be conservative and be for the flag change. It's normal.

Putting this on the ballot would be a big big mistake. Why you ask?

Because in the State of Mississippi, I'm not sure if it will pass or not.

I’m almost positive that it would not pass. Some of these are people that I call friends but you would have rednecks showing up to vote that have never voted in their lives just to give the finger to those that want to tell them what to do. Id give a vote to change 20-25% chance at best of passing. Then instead of a most of the rest of the nation simply thinking we are racists we would have publicly confirmed it.

Exactly. A referendum could go either way. And the current political climate just makes it more likely that KEEP is the way it goes. It's going to get inadvertently pulled into the fog of thinking about the slow creep to eliminating statues of Thomas Jefferson and blowing up Mt. Rushmore. There will be plenty enough good decent people who don't have racial animus, but just want to stick it to the woke mob and cancel culture. And if the voters choose KEEP, generating the political will to then change it legislatively will be an enormous mountain to climb. It could be an absolute disaster that sets the state back for generations. This HAS to be done via the legislature and quickly.

And don't forget the MONTHS of campaigning, bickering, and social media 17-Ups. What a complete disaster that would be. It can't be allowed to happen. This issue DEMANDS a full vote by the Mississippi Legislature!!!!

I couldn't have summed it up better than that. You're 100% correct.

GET IT DONE, AND GET IT DONE THIS WEEK

Please, please, please somebody in Jackson man-up and fix this now!
Or, stay the same course and wait for the email from Nissan and/or Toyota and/or Chevron saying it’s been real nice but we will see you later. And, when all three branches of the Federal government are Democrat, they can say no more contracts for Ingalls.
Do it now Tate, you think you have a choice but you don’t.

If you want Tate to act on it, send an email and let him know that you’re a conservative who votes in every election. And sign it as Dixie Normous. Then he’ll read it on television.

Would someone with more patience than me PLEASE look up the details of the 2001 vote IE voter turnout etc.. Also, if I remember correctly, there was a huge amount of apathy among black voters (particularly young blacks) at that time about the flag . The point is you people conceding defeat if we voted again might feel differently if you study the particulars of the 2001 vote and compared them to our current environment.

2001 Election Results per Google

Retain Current Flag 494,323 - 64.39%
Adopt New Flag 273,359 - 35.61
Total Turnout - 767,682
For comparison purposes the total votes in the 1999 general election for governor - 763,937, 2003 general election for governor - 894,487, 2019 general election for governor - 884,911.
You could argue that the flag vote was light about 120,000 votes but if all of them voted & voted for a new flag(best case the additional votes might be 75/25 for a new flag), you would still need to flip another 50K plus votes. That is a big hill to climb.

I think you are probably right on the 50K being a hard hill to climb. However that was 20 years ago and many older people have "departed the voting rolls" leaving behind a more open world view from younger people. Add to that the current climate and 50K just might be possible.

Edit: I'm on mobile so I can't but I'd like to see a poll of the sixpack on change it or dont change it.

Lead or get out of the way and let the young people lead us. We have elected a bunch of followers instead of leaders

The issue with a SixPack poll is that it would primarily be a poll of college graduates. I think that a huge majority of college graduates would already vote to change the flag - unfortunately college graduates are about 22% of Mississippi's voting age population according to recent census estimates.
