Of course it's not worth the bad press at this point, especially since they made people aware of it who weren't aware of it before.

And c'mon, the noose around the statue's neck thing isn't even remotely close to being the same as this. That actually has the same context as lynching. The Florida gator bait chant has a completely different context. The context is what's different and any rational person can see that.

Again, I agree it's not a hill to die on, they have to stop the chant at this point. Just silly that this is all now coming up.

Yeah killing black kids is much worse than killing black kids....

What does that even mean?

I'm going to go ahead and prepare myself for losing Bully. He probably barked at a black guy once or twice.

It’s pretty horrific imagery brought up in general by the thought of gator bait.

It’s not even about something being racist anymore or someone being offended. It’s about some social justice warrior finding a reason to cancel something or someone. It’s street cred for social justice warrior.

You’re up, LSU. I’m sick of being called “Tiger Bait” after getting an *** whooping in your stadium. You might even say I’m “outraged” about it. It’s time.

Just being beat by LSU offends and outages me!! It needs to stop and stop now. Losing should be banned!

No, you illiterate fool, putting a noose around the neck of a statue of a black man is worse than football fans doing a chant implying that their team called the Gators is currently beating or is going to beat them.

These people digging this stuff up and obsessively shoving it down our throats must be miserable human beings.

“Calling the Hogs” is insensitive to big girls.... but big girls need loving too and they always bring their A game!

The night sky even derails the sanity of these people. How dare those shiny, clean, WHITE stars stand out against the black background.

Our country has to stop this politically driven BS now. We have companies and people apologizing for something we didn’t do, or for who we are. We are ALL equal and history cannot be change but it is there for us to learn from and make our own history.

Stop looking for **** to be offended by!

Dont worry. All this BS gonna backfire before long. Folks only gonna take so much of the unreasonableness. Its unfortunate that a time to make meaningful changes is being sabotaged by a bunch of f'ing morons.

Can one of you good souls find something racially insensitive about “Hotty Totty”.....as much as I like laughing at grown men saying it, it makes my ears bleed and would be best for the world if it was no longer PC to say.

I think there is a chance they drop Rebels and maybe even Ole Miss before the end of the year. This is the perfect opportunity for them to drop it and pass the blame. If what was posted here back when they dropped Col Reb was rooted in fact, now is their chance. They’ll probably fight to keep OM with an aggressive marketing campaign about how it’s not related to the Confederacy, but enough negative publicity and protests on campus could be the tipping point. I hope they keep both and we use it as a recruiting tool against them. i know it seems like a long shot, but look at the recent AD and president hires (I refuse to call him the c word, pretentious pricks). They really dpnt seem to be making well thought out decisions right now.

Oh no. That’s a slippery slope that humper said is a ridiculous assumption.

Do you really think that name has some sort of connection? I didn’t see any sarcastricks to make me think you’re joking.

I think it’s strange that the professor says many people knew about yet all of these people didn’t find the university’s approval of the use of the cheer to be offensive. They obviously didn’t find it offensive enough to say, “I refuse to go to THAT school and be a part of their racist actions.”

It’s not conclusive that the cheer has any connection to the clearly horrible joke, but if it does, it should be stopped.

Calling me out just so I can come tell you you're stupid?

Well, you're stupid.

If a random message board user saying he fears for his Coca Cola (which I can find no evidence is in danger) is the kind of proof you were looking for, I don't know what else to tell you.

My thought with all that is going on in history right now with all these people, out doing their thing, is that their mother failed to teach a valuable lesson. DON'T **** WHERE YOU EAT!

Well, you’re more stupid over the **** you feel compelled to spew out of your mouth. It must suck to wake up every day as miserable as you. Did your mom tit-feed you too little?

I don't think it had an intentional connection. But I think that is why we changed it, and it wouldn't matter if it was "intentional".

One Mississippi school with a "Freed Slave mascot" opposite the Col. Reb other Mississippi School? Neither of those is a good look.

I'm just waiting on dawgstudent to announce he's changing the name of sps. Surely someone is offended by that. it's coming

I'm offended by the name because I don't have a sixpack. And from some recent posts, just about every poster here is overweight and should be offended by an 'in-shape' term.

I always wish we were the Mississippi State College Burgandys. You do realize it was about uniform color right?

The Stephen D. Lee statue on the Drill Field will be the first thing to go here, I've seen it mentioned a couple times already. Even though he's not R.E.L. he was related and a confederate so therefore he was a bad man.

Actually Stephen D Lee was not related to Robert E Lee

I said I did not think it was intentional... But I do think we changed to Bulldogs when someone said " you know Maroons is another name for "freed Slaves". We just didn't make a big deal out of the change. Just went to our mascot, the bulldog... Easy change.

Ole Miss could have done the same, but the Ole Miss Fighting Col Sanders was sued by KFC...
