How do you know ?
Greenwood Tulsa, also known as "Black Wall Street", was one of the most commercially successful and affluent majority African-American communities in the United States. Booker T. Washington referred to the Greenwood neighborhood as “Negro Wall Street.”[SUP][10][/SUP] Many Americans, including African-Americans, had moved to Oklahoma in hopes of gaining a shot at quick economic gains through the mining and oil industries. This forced many African-Americans to spend their money where they would feel welcomed, effectively insulating cash flow to within the black community and allowing Greenwood to flourish and prosper.
On "Black Wall Street", there were African-American attorneys, real-estate agents, dentists, entrepreneurs, and doctors who offered their services in the neighborhood. One primary example of the black entrepreneurial spirit is illustrated in this example: J.B. Stradford. J.B. Stradford had graduated from Indiana University with a law degree and had moved to Greenwood to purchase various land vacancies in the area. After buying these vacant spaces, he would then sell them to African-American residents for redevelopment so that these empty spaces could be transformed into residential houses and profitable businesses. By 1921, Stradford had been considered one of the wealthiest African-Americans in the country as he owned numerous properties in Greenwood and even had his hotel named after him: Stratford Hotel.[SUP][2][/SUP] In addition to Mr. Stradford, there were also investments and reinvestments into the community. One executive of the local YMCA recalled that there were several barbershops, several grocery stores, and even a funeral home service. Greenwood was known to be an active religious community as there were numerous black-owned churches, Christian youth services, and other religious organizations.
More "whataboutism" trying to misdirect away from the topic at hand. Yes, everything you mentioned are actual problems, but you're completely avoiding the bigger picture.
This isn't a "bootstraps" issue where inner city black communities need to suddenly, through sheer force of will, surpass their education options and suddenly have more money and opportunity to change their situation for the better.
This is about systemic racism, and this country's legacy of public policy that created the cycle of poverty and poor education in black communities, and the eagerness at which we lock them up.
You said "assume you care. or then Now what"?So I'm supposed to have a conversation where I subtly pretend I'm really racist because reasons? Sorry not gonna happen.
I'm not a liar.
The embodiment of inclusivity, that place. Is there a place in Jackson that's known a "Black Wall Street"? That is the one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in America?
Here is the issue with your surpassing educational opportunities. A lot of them don't want an educational opportunuity. Some do, but a lot don't. My mom was a public school teacher for almost 40 years in poor county schools that were 99% black. Out of the 300 or so students she had each year she had maybe 4 that actually tried to study and do well. The others were lucky to spell their name correctly on the test. To make matters worse, those that struggled spelling their name made fun of those that tried to do well. Called them acting white and Uncle Tom's. Their only desire was to get out of school and get on public assistance. They had zero desire to get an education to get a good job and better themselves. They've been indoctrinated since birth that the best they can ever do is sit on their butts at home all day and collect welfare because the system is rigged against them by good old racist whitey. The man just keeping them down. One day my mom had enough. She asked them after they started ridiculing a student for making an A on a test and asked them to confirm that studying and trying to make something of yourself is acting white. They all said it was. So she then asked them if that was acting white was acting black sitting on your lazy butt and not caring or trying?
This conversation is a dead end, you've now (wrongly and predictably) called me a racist. I'll just sit back and watch you punch yourself out. Good luck man.You said "assume you care. or then Now what"?
You should watch the video. It answers your questions.
And the video does not call you a racist. Nor you have to pretend you are a racist. But if you want to assume you are are a racist, I can do that as well...
I don't see any lies. I said the rioters were crazy, and they are. And Kapernick is not respectful of the country. No lies there. You said you didn't think the protesters were crazy until they rioted....
Meanwhile, you continue to talk about Kap not being respectful.
So, you are a liar. You called him crazy before the protest, and you said you didn't. One of those statements is not true. Not true statements are called lies. People that say lies are liars. That make you a liar...
This right here is some high-test casual racism, boys
No need to any more. BTW do you label a black man who chooses to relocate his family from a black neighborhood to a white neighborhood a racist ?
This conversation is a dead end, you've now (wrongly and predictably) called me a racist. I'll just sit back and watch you punch yourself out. Good luck man.
I don't think any reasonable person would actually blame you for sending your kid to the best school you can afford, but that's a perfect example of a systemic problem. When enough people make the (perfectly justifiable) decision you make, the public school goes to ****.As a parent, I will send my kids to the best school I can afford, no matter if it is public or private. As a grandparent, I will do the same for my grandkids. I'll be damned if I will send my kids to a failing ******, violent, drug infested dump so they can have their lives destroyed by a lack of a half way decent education just to satisfy a bunch of woke liberal pieces of ****. If that offends you, I just really don't care.
Come on Bru, it's hard to believe that you're having a good faith debate when you want to lump every protester in with the rioters. It's just disingenuous. In my mind it's the same as someone calling you a racist or a nazi for simply disagreeing with them.
Can someone please explain to me what the term "systemic racism" encompasses and where I might have unknowingly run across it or even been a part of it ?
I'm British (Wales/Scott) and Irish. Who am I supposed to hate?
well... he black-splained it all. still didn't do anything but declare he's being oppressed, yet there he was on his youtube channel. I've not got a youtube channel. I don't have that nice shiny watch that he's got. bet his car is better than mine, and yet he's decided that he's being oppressed in favor of me.
in this country.
I don't see any lies. I said the rioters were crazy, and they are. And Kapernick is not respectful of the country. No lies there.
You've now called me a racist AND a liar (twice). Throw in the towel.
it takes breaking **** to convince me that ya'll are crazy. Beforehand, I only had you pegged as a misguided idealist
And you don't seem to understand that the challenges of black Americans are totally different now than they were 100 years ago . What you don't understand that while 100 years ago WE (whites) were there worst enemy and today they (blacks) are their own worst enemy and you'll never admit that in 100 more years but it's the truth. They have to find a way to somehow get back to living in conventional families with mothers and fathers to love, teach and nurture their children...most of the ones who have done this already are years ahead of the pack. The government never has and never will do a good job of raising children. NEVER
As a parent, I will send my kids to the best school I can afford, no matter if it is public or private.
He lost me with Colin Kap and social injustice and the flag.
Stopped right there. Won’t watch again Bc it’s not true.
Emotion is good.
IT SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN A DECISION MAKING PROCESS. EVER.
It's because he doesn't want to debate. He wants to scream he is right, and then lie about everyone else...
He's saying that black people want to individually act any way they want but be treated equally in a society that doesn't do that for individuals of any color. The "victim" card is getting old and faded. What real racist like yourself can't fathom is that blacks are very capable of functioning in this society if they are willing to put forth the effort. You (and your ilk) want to continue to treat them like they are so inferior they can't do it on their even if they apply themselves and you are dead wrong.
And why is that? That school system is getting the benefit of my tax money without spending it on my kids. More money for fewer students. Seems like that would be a good deal for those that are left. Or, are the problems not about a lack of money?I don't think any reasonable person would actually blame you for sending your kid to the best school you can afford, but that's a perfect example of a systemic problem. When enough people make the (perfectly justifiable) decision you make, the public school goes to ****.
