An opinion is something you are "entitled" to share if you want, its yours whether someone else gets triggered and agrees or not and you don't have to apologize for it. They don't have to listen, agree or participate. That in my opinion is the root of all this "cr@p" to which you refer. People think that because they disagree with you, that makes them right, and you are wrong and aren't "entitled" to your opinion. If you decide to share in this triggered day and age you just have to be ready to accept rebuttal in whatever form it may take whether it be a boycott, looting and pillaging, burning buildings OR, getting arrested if you are rioting, pillaging, etc. I have VERY strong opinions on all of this "crap", but I've for the most part chosen to not watch tv or listen to any of it and haven't shouted my opinion from the mountain top either even as strong as my opinion is.
That type entitlement differs from things like free college, free day care, no taxes, free health care, etc which some believe they are "entitled" to. That's another topic for another day. (Stepping down from the soap box now)

As history unfolds in front of our eyes my question now is (OTHER THAN ACTUAL SLAVERY ITSELF WHICH WAS ABHORRENT) is the country more or less divided than prior to the civil war ? The things that are going on in parts of this country now seem absolutely foreign to me and I understand fully that they don't to others. For the first time in my life I can actually see another secession of some type as being possible. I ask that no one please interpret this as hateful but more thought provoking if that's possible anymore.

Who and how is anyone going to secede? There are conservatives and liberals intermixed everywhere. There's no geographical region that can really move away from the others. I guess Texas maybe, they thought they were hot **** until the price of oil plummeted. Maybe California.
If it were only 50, we'd be fortunate. It's pretty tough to unify a nation that has no common values. Our quest for personal liberty has morphed into a bunch of individual nation states, each defining their own "reality". I don't care what your philosophy of life is, if a person is so prideful as to assume that their feelings are the most important thing in the world, it's a bad path. In many respects, that is where we are. All individual feelings must be equally respected and revered, regardless of how ridiculous they are. No common ground. No objective good. No objective evil. Look out for number one. My feelings are my reality and everyone must adjust. It's quite the recipe for disaster.
This idea of personal liberty and no defining morals is one reason that the rest of the world (particularly Eastern cultures) often looks at the US as incredibly evil, often while perpetuating evil themselves. Hence the need for some unifying agreement on right and wrong for people to find common ground. We don't currently have that in the US.
Nietzsche asserted that you cannot build a civilization of power on such self-debasing ideas as morality, repentance and humility. Of course Hitler followed suit when he stated "I freed Germany from the stupid and degrading fallacies of conscience and morality...We will train young people before whom the world will tremble. I want young people capable of violence-imperious, relentless and cruel."

IF anti-confederate flag people could start over, and screamed loudly that the CSA hated the US, it would have been a much better marketing plan in leading people not to fly the rebel flag. But unfortunately it evolved into a purely racial issue, and it's human nature that if you back someone into a corner (calling them racist or challenging their intellect or beliefs) that they are going to dig in and fight back.
It's probably too late to change marketing plans, but his point is a good one.
Another example is BLM. If their slogan was "black lives matter too", way more people would agree with that, or at least people who truly want peace (and especially anyone calling himself a Christian) couldn't refute the truth that everyone is supposed to be treated equally under the law.
Unfortunately, too many people hear "black lives matter" as "[enter your race here] lives don't matter"... which is not what they are saying. At least not what most of my friends intend to communicate when they say that.

Nah I’ve just been around racing my whole life and wrenched on them too so I know a thing or two about race cars. A “stock” motor wouldn’t last 500 miles at 9,000 rpm. Most stock engines don’t have a dry sump oiling system so guess what? All that oil on one side of the pan on a banked track would be on one side of the pan and away from the oil pump. A stock rearend wouldn’t hold up with the torque coming off the corners. A stock tire would blister after a few laps. Should we talk about caster,camber, driveshafts,cooling system,etc? Do I need to keep going on and spell it out for you? Smh
Agree. In the midst of all the anger and uprising, it's pretty sobering to see what this sort of thing (wars and conflicts, etc.) are REALLY about, especially considering the numbers who die in the name of some cause or ideal.
What we see now is really not anything close to a real war. Not even the same stratosphere.
I don't know but the ideologies of our two major political parties are so far apart now that they can't seem to find ANY common ground and state by state it has never been more evident than this last round of social unrest. I know that personally I don't want any part of a state or country that tolerates anarchists taking control of parts of it's towns or territory or seriously considers defunding it's law enforcement BUT I know now there are people who are apparently quiet comfortable with it. We're so far apart I don't know how we continue to live "together".....and that may not be a bad thing.
I said start with a “stock” car, not race one.
Currently, the car they bring to the track on Monday is often times different from the one that starts the race on Sunday. I think they should start with a mostly stock car (body and drivetrain, none of the creature comfort stuff) on Monday and be allowed to do whatever they want to it by Sunday. Change what needs to be changed in the garage. That would be fun to watch. Would they be able to run 500 miles at 9,000 rpms? Maybe not. They don’t do that right now anyway. I would find that a lot more interesting that what they do now, and I consider myself a NASCAR fan. Don’t follow it real close anymore, but I have in the past and have been to several races. I’m not trying to be derogatory toward it.

I can only hope that he thought him being in the white house would afford blacks a better chance in life, but it may have just been self-serving with no consideration for what might happen to then freed slaves.
Regardless of the motivation, that capitulation led to the end of Reconstruction and the beginning of Jim Crow. Basically, after 11 years of Reconstruction, like that was long enough to right generations of wrong, we ushered in Jim Crow and put those uppity blacks (I mean some were even in the state house) back their place. Effectively Jim Crow kicked the can down the road to the 1960's. Some progress was made. Can was kicked down the road to 2020. Looks a lot like the 1960s/70s. Protests, riots, etc. Imagine if Jim Crow never happened and blacks had been treated like actual humans since the late 1800's what race relations would look like today. Now imagine people in MS who desperately want to hold onto the old south emblems and mentality. It's sad. Cling to that confederate flag folks. With any luck at all we can pass the torch on to future generations so they can decide if it's OK to hold onto oppressive symbols.***

There is truly nothing new under the sun. I knew this from historical reading, but took this excerpt from Wikipedia as it is concise and well referenced and aligns with what I recalled. In the US it only goes back as far as our first president. I submit to you history:

I just don’t have any interest in watching a driver get killed that’s all. There is absolutely nothing on a stock car that would qualify as safe on these racetracks. I’m not going into detail about all the parts and pieces they use but it’s been a progression of upgrades to make the cars safer. When you take a stock car from the showroom and start adding something here and there on the car so it can handle the G forces put on them in the corners then it adds up and you no longer have a stock car. That’s what happened over the 70+ years of racing. The technology and engineering that goes into these cars is phenomenal.
Yeah imagine if the Chase court had found the Civil Rights Cases in the same way the Warren Court did 85 years later....
