"So, Mr. Phelps, what do we do about our fans with confederate flag tattoos?"

Restrictor plates too. It would be much more entertaining if it was like the old days, when teams actually got their cars from a dealership, and the cars were actually stock.

They're all the same now with stickers that sorta look like a Toyota or Mustang or whatever. Take those stickers off and they're identical.

I watched a little of one of the races earlier since it was the first thing back that was live. They had something called a "competition caution". Is that so the slow guys can catch up?

I don't utilize social media very much, but I actually sent a message to Bubba Wallace this morning about the flags. I even used my real name. I doubt he reads it, but I told him I thought banning the flags was a bad idea that would alienate the racist and/or ignorant fans that still bring them, and cause unnecessary division.

He would be better off using his current political capital to affect real meaningful change regarding the racial imbalance within Nascar and its fan base. Eventually, the fans won't want to bring flags. In the meantime, you will be able to identify the racists by their flags.

You will see more confederate flags and NASCAR will not try to stop it and if they did they would not be able too.

I don't think a black guy is worried about alienating racist fans. Ignorant fans, I could see wanting to educate.

If you assume racists cannot change the way they think, you may be right. But I think you could reach at least some of them, and keep them as Nascar fans.

Everybody says that, but races in those days were won by 5 or 10 laps. How is that more exciting?

The sport hasn't been relevent in 15 years. About time NASCAR gets some publicity.
just because it’s not relevant to you doesn’t make it irrelevant to millions of other fans that still like it. I mean golf and soccer is totally irrelevant to me but I just choose not to watch it but there are fans that do.

Absolutely wonderful idea ***. Yeah let’s go to the dealership and buy some stock cars and throw a roll cage in them and go racing. If you know ANYTHING mechanical then you know that won’t fly. Never ceases to amaze me at the pure ignorance of people.

That’s about when they started to go PC

I guess trying to diversify worked out well for them. White people used to buy up all the tickets to every race. But they have had plenty of room for minorities in the stands for years now.

While the cars make look somewhat similar they are actually far from that now. The roofs are about the only thing that’s the same on them now. The side panels, front fascia and rear panels are all different now. The COT was the same cars with only stickers differentiating the makes.

If they wanted to make it happen, they could. There is no reason teams couldn’t be given a “stock” car with a roll cage built in on Monday and allowed to do whatever they wanted to it by Sunday. Don’t underestimate a redneck with snap-on tool kit. But you seem liked you’d be a real joy in the pit.

The “Car of Tomorrow” killed NASCAR....

Along with drawing up plans for a mile and a half track.. and then building about 5 or so of them. If you flip on a race that’s on in Texas, you don’t know immediately if it’s Texas, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Kansas, Charlotte, or Atlanta.

It’s also being killed by the gosh awful championship points and award system. Someone who wins 10 races can lose to someone who has won two if they have one bad race.

They are also introducing another car next year that will have many of the things that once was unthinkable. They are bringing over some of the stuff from Indy cars and formula-1 such as the single lug rims.

And for the final death blow? Future plans for a “hybrid” drivetrain in that new car.

Sport?? **

Seriously.

Driving a car is not a sport.

If I want to be in a car race, then all I have to do is drive the Capital Beltway in Maryland. So long as traffic isn't too backed up (rush hour), you're guaranteed to have 3-4 cars and/or motorcycles blow past you doing at least 95. They will be happy to race you.

Again, I'm as conservative as there is, but I don't see the fascination with that Confederate flag. Just fly the American flag.

But there again, this is exactly why I see all the kneelers as pieces of the worst kind of slimy ****.

I’m with you. I think if the argument was presented as “the confederate flag is the flag of a treasonous country. A country that hated the United States of America”, more people would look at it from that perspective and choose to not fly it. Instead the argument is “I’m gonna make you take that down because you’re a terrible person!” That just makes people dig in more.
