I’m sure in the huge, HUGE expanse that is SPS, there has got to be some affected by Coronavirus, and I am not here to trivialize what you have gone through and I truly empathize what you and your family have been through. That said, who here has a direct family member that has died from the virus? I’m not talking about mamaw that was on hospice already. Let’s have it.

I can’t help you, but last week I finally had someone I actually know get the virus. She lives in NYC. Works in Manhattan. She’s ecstatic that she doesn’t t have to go into the city these past few days.

And in regards to your grandma comment.... my grandma has been confined to a recliner since last summer. Doctor gave her two weeks to live about 10 months ago. She’s still kicking. And if she caught the virus, she would go rather quickly.... but she would also probably pass if she got sneezed on too hard.

One of my former high school teachers has it (he’s retired now) but the last I heard he is doing fine. That is the only person I’ve known so far who has had it.

Wife (RN) and I both had it back in late April. Felt kinda worn down and fever with aches for three or four days. I had head congestion. No shortness of breath, etc. Still alive and hoping to be immune now ! She had about 10-15 coworkers who had it over same time period but none of them died. All, ourselves included, under 40 years of age, though.

An expert from Michigan that does work for me has had three friends die from it. Not that old and not blatantly unhealthy.

My best friends wife died from it she was 70 with no pre-existing conditions. Started being very tired with all the symptoms that followed. She died 2 weeks later. I'm 72 it great health, my wife is 68 with MS so I take this virus seriously.

3 Coworkers have had it. One guy checks every high risk block. As of right now, I don't know anyone personally that has died from it.

So if you are old or sick it shouldn't count? That is a serious question and not meant to be snarky. This kind of thinking has been deeply troubling to me. For the record I know many who have had deaths in their familes. I know a few who have had it and at least two who died.

My second cousin was 90 and in nursing home... he died two weeks ago and his cause of death was counted as Covid...but to be honest, it could have been anything.

We know one family here in Atlanta . The kids had nothing more than very light cold symptoms. The adults had dry cough and a fever up to about 101 that lasted on and off for 6 days. They said they never really felt that “out of it” but as the cough lingered, they said they got a little worried. It went away after about 3 weeks.

One of my clients had it early on in March (he was one of the first cases in Jackson County). He’s a black guy in his mid-40s with no previous underlying conditions.

He said it was brutal and he was hospitalized for 2-3 weeks. They almost put him on a ventilator 4-5 times, but luckily his breathing would slightly improve each time so he never had to go that route.

He told me yesterday that he now has really high blood pressure (never had it pre-virus). His doctor has two other recovered patients that are also experiencing odd after effects. One guy’s joints are now hurting so bad he can’t get out of bed and a lady that was an avid runner pre-virus is still on O2 because she loses her breath just walking to the bathroom, etc.

Friend's dad was in ICU for a month. He was in his 60s and no health issues. It's not a joke, but nobody seems to know much more about it now than 3 months ago.

My mother died of Covid about a month ago. She was 87 and living in an assisted living facility due to Alzheimers. No other health issues other than age and dementia.

I am aware of three people who I personally know who have tested positive. None of them have died.

However, a family member (who I didn't know) of one of the aforementioned three people did pass away because of covid.

Of course it counts, but only a moron wouldn’t distinguish between a “very at risk” group.

Oh and I had it.
My mom had it. 67 this month. Diabetes. Not unhealthy but not a portrait of health.

We are both alive and basically back to normal.

Both still have a lingering head cold with occasional headache and some congestion.

No deaths, but my wife will be giving blood within the next week, and the place that is doing it is providing a free antibody test as part of the process. I'm not sure how long the antibodies remain active, but I would still bet a very large sum of money that my wife had it and recovered from it back in February. Hoping to find out one way or another during the next few days, and I am still a big believer that a whole lot more people have had Covid19 than we currently realize

big difference between being old and sick vs being in hospice. people that are expected to recover from an ailment dont typically go into hospice.

edit: further clarification: if they are in hospice because of COV-19, it absolutely counts....if they are in hospice for something else, but test positive upon death, that doesnt count in this scenario.

an older Lady in the nursing home died. And we lost one of our Supervisors Here in Noxubee. He had a heart condition. I know several people that have had it, and most are now fine.

sorry to hear that. again, im not trying to trivialize death, just see if there was anyone with a family member that died, because i havent heard of anyone in my larger church or immediate circle being impacted directly.

I didn't have any problem with your question. Death is inevitable. When you are 87 and in the later stages of Alzheimers it becomes a likelihood. It was highly likely that Mom was going to pass away this year of some age related issue, it just happened to be Covid. Her quality of life was gone long before now and she would not have wanted to linger regardless of Covid.

Getting out of bed every day introduces a risk, from driving, flying, disease, etc., and we all have to weigh the risk we expose ourselves to. For an 87 year old, Covid is a substantial risk. For my 30 year old son, not so much. For me at age 62, I've evaluated the risk and made appropriate adjustments.

0 from the virus.

1 cousin from lupus.
1 aunt (not parent of the dead cousin) from leukemia.

both happened with the last two weeks. of course, if you would point to two people in my family that were compromised, it was those two.

You should try harder. You are annoying enough without bringing the ******* factor in.

If you can’t figure out why you would want to distinguish between groups, I can’t help you.

sounds like you are saying my level of annoyance is sufficient even without the ******* side, so why try harder?
