Bummer. Based on what I've read, he was one of those guys that would've blown up if there was a camp circuit.

There is going to be a dizzying amount of decommits nationwide.

Recruiting almost isn’t worth following until about a week before signing day. I still wish there was no such thing as signing day - I think kids should be able to sign papers at any point after their sr year starts if a school wants to send them papers

Yeah, but then the Alabama's of the world couldn't offer a kid last minute that's been committed for a year to another school. I don't want to live in that world.**

That would make the first day of school a de facto signing day. My solution is even more radical. No signing day period. You want to sign a junior (or a soph.), go ahead, but it's fully binding on both the player and the school unless both agree to a release.

Yeah but I don’t know if as many kids would sign before their sr year and I don’t know if schools would offer as many bonding offers that early. But yeah, something needs to be done as these “commitments” are becoming more worthless every year

So the word "commitment" would actually fit somewhere close to the Webster definition? I personally would like to see that.

Agree. Your proposal of 1st day of class your SR year is probably a lot more realistic than mine, and would go a long way towards eliminating the ******** in recruiting.

I fully understand all of your reasoning. But, it will never happen.
1 - because signing day makes so many people so much money
2 - because it’s really not fair to the kids; imagine committing to Ole Miss as a sophomore when Freeze was the coach and they just won the Sugar Bowl.. they shouldn’t be held to that commitment

The current system is probably the best of a bad situation.

But if a situation like that happens often enough, kids will hopefully start to realize that committing that early is dumb and the issue would fix itself.

Not only that, now you can sign a player then lose him to the portal.

That's something else that needs to be cleaned up. Anyone can transfer at any time, but you will sit out a year, no exceptions. That year doesn't count towards your 5 years to play 4. Simple and fair to both the players and the schools.

That’s a great point. And it does sway my opinion somewhat. But, it still just feels like the schools are taking even more power over the student athlete, when they’re already benefiting greatly off of them. I don’t really disagree with you or your opinion, I like it. I just don’t think that in today’s current environment you’re going to see the SA’s get less power. It will likely go the other direction.
