I heard them say late yesterday that if Sunday was looking good then they would not wait until the last minute to scratch it if the conditions weren’t ideal. The whole having to have the oceans calm for a cpl thousand miles out in case of an abort really does make a scrutinize every detail whereas with the shuttle they could land it in Spain I believe if they had to abort.

You would think there would be many more days with clear skies had they chosen somewhere other than the Florida coast back in the 60’s but I assume they chose there to give themselves the most ocean to play with in case of an abort and to keep population centers out of the equation in the misfortune that things were to go bad.

Lusaka, Zambia has a huge/wide/long runway at their airport, with next to no air traffic. The US built it in case the shuttle aborted - they could land it there. Probably was money well spent.

Trump said earlier before he left Washington that if they don't launch today, they'll wait til Wednesday.

The Dragon capsule (whose name we'll apparently find out later) looks like the PacMan ghost. Presumably that's on purpose by Musk.

I don't know much about SpaceX Dragon abort modes, but I don't think any of them has the capsule landing on a runway. It'll be a splashdown, at the farthest near Ireland, I think.

It can blast free of the booster if there's an issue on the pad, even though it doesn't have the escape tower that was on Saturns. This one's built into the capsule.

Looks like a huge success so far.

The first thing in the year 2020 to go right. Finally, some good news.

Go Elon Musk, you magnificent bastard!

That was awesome.

Of course 2020 did get one lick in - let the conspiracy begin that they didn’t actually land the rocket. They faked that “loss of signal”

Do you think landing on the moon in 2024 is feasible or just a goal? Today was awesome but that’s orders of magnitude more than anything that we’ve done in 48 years. Of course today’s space program has the blue print that they didn’t have in the 60’s. If we are to have lunar touchdown in 4 years we’ll hafta be orbiting it in what, 2 1/2 years? Then you’d hafta test the lander. It took Apollo about 76 hours to get to lunar orbit, I wonder is that something that can be improved upon? But I suppose since the capsule really doesn’t have “brakes” if you were going much faster lunar gravity would just sling shot you instead of actually entering orbit. And I apologize for picking your brain, it’s just that there really aren’t that many ppl that have been in that bubble.
