Seems like this gives MSU an extra couple weeks of practice with Costello since he was going to miss spring practice.

6 weeks of football practice from July - Sept in MS sounds miserable though. Teams will really have to focus on keeping guys fresh. That could make for a really long grind of a season.

With no spring practice, I think 6 weeks is about the minimum if you don't want the product on the field to look like crap, especially for teams with new coaches.

You would think Clemson with the same offense, QB, RB, and WR would have a pretty sizable advantage in 2020.

You hafta be bad careful or you could wind up with a Maryland situation in the July heat. I’ve never been in the Palmerio center, i assume its AC’ed

The good news there is it can be easier to do early or late in the day to avoid peak temps. In August, you are basically stuck with early-mid afternoons only due to the class schedules.

Not sure it will be hard for the players to physically recover if you give them just a little bit of time between the summer practices and more traditional fall practice time. Not sure how the mental side will play out.

Yeah, I feel like any additional practice time has to be beneficial for State and OM with new staffs.

I do agree with the other poster though about the heat in MS during that timeframe. And you know a lot of kids are going to report back out of shape.

One of the coaches (myabe Leach) recently mentioned something about not wanting to wear the players out before the start of the season.

So maybe two weeks in shorts in the Palmeiro Center before fall practice? We gotta get the timing down between the QBs and WRs, the wide OL splits, and the defense will be new, too.

These are SEC football players. They can take a little heat as long as we use the proper precautions.

Jesus, I can already see the effect of Covid leading to the further pussification of college football. Not necessarily because of what you said, but it seems like our entire society has already changed. Football always stands directly down the line of the domino effect.

So, couple of things...

1. A lot of those players (i.e. freshmen, transfers) have never been SEC football players before, including one specific highly touted transfer quarterback.

2. This is the type of attitude that denied the effects of CTE. “They’re football players. They’re tough. They can handle hits to their head. It’s a man’s sport.” They’re not just disposable lives that can be thrown away for your amusement, Caligula.
