What kind of mask are you guys using and where did you get them? Figure I need to buy some if we start going out more regularly.

I've had a couple of the N95 masks leftover from a re-modeling project I'd done end of last year that I've used, but I'm not sure how sanitary that is if I keep wearing the same masks. I've only been out in a public space maybe 2-3 times a week max, so it's not like I've worn them a lot. I rotate them so they sit a few days between uses - I figure any virus would die off in that time, maybe?? Am I best off to just continue doing this, as long as they sit for a few days?

Wife has a washable cloth one someone made her, but she goes out less than me - it's only been used a couple of times.

I ordered a cloth one from Etsy that’s on its way to my house. Great reviews and it has a removable, washable polypropylene filter with it. (I know the filter really does no good, but it’s at least another layer)

You don't need an N95 mask unless you're coming within 6ft of someone who is confirmed positive or showing symptoms.

Similarly, surgical masks are used in healthcare while treating patients who are not showing symptoms.

For the general public, you are fine with cloth masks.

Whatever mask you're using, the CDC has relaxed guidelines on reuse so you're ok to continue to use them as long as they aren't visibly soiled. Cloth masks can be washed between uses and the N95/Surgical masks should be fine if you let them sit 24 hours (as long as they aren't visibly soiled).

Men's summer neck gaiter. Get one from the Amazons. Comfy. Great to mow with for keeping dust/grass out of your nose. 50spf.

I also use a neck gaiter I picked up at Academy. It’s not the most effective thing, I’m sure, because it’s thin. But it is comfortable.

I think it probably helps others some, in case I were infected. Likely does little for me. For sure helps to avoid being shunned by the masses...

I’ve been using my daughters winter Nike gaiter we got her for soccer until my masks get here. Basically a cold gear Nike pro top. I feel a little better because it’s thicker, but damn it’s hot.

there was someone on here that posted a few weeks ago... about a cousin/niece that was doing masks.

she made 100 masks for me. they are great. she also made 2 extra ones that were MSU related. they are cloth with the pocket to add the additional filter.

if you want, reach out to me, as I only have her personal contact so not posting it here.

Pro tip. Go stop by your local emergency management office. Chances are, they have a ton on hand. And will give you a box or two.

N95/KN95 or a level 3 mask is what you want to protect yourself. Supposedly, cloth masks will help protect others if you are infected. I don’t necessarily buy that because they become saturated with what you exhale, and viruses are tiny and can pass through the cloth. It may potentially help some, but I haven’t personally seen any research that proves cloth masks benefit anyone. A dentist generally wears a level 1 mask and is supposed to change those between each patient because of saturation of the mask. At this time, all healthcare workers are wearing the N95s or level 3s. Level 3 masks and N95s are less porous and may be useful for a longer period of time.

If you are infected and wearing a cloth mask, you are basicallly handling a piece of cloth loaded with virus. Secondly, if you aren’t infected and somehow the virus becomes trapped in the cloth, then guess what you are constantly inhaling.

80% of the people that I see wearing masks are wearing them improperly, and they generally are serving no purpose.

I have a few 95 mask, do you think I could lightly spray the outside/inside with alcohol sanitizer and rotate them out every 3 days or so? Or would it matter?

I can tell you what I’ve been seeing in the hospitals (OR)
Staff are wearing N95s, with a regular procedural mask over that. When their shift was over everyone had a paper bag with their name on them, and stored their N95 in it until next shift. I think they now have a different procedure for cleaning them.
I’m sure those working directly with known Covid patients probably had different procedures or got a new mask often.
I have an R95 mask, when I leave the hospital, I just put it on the dash of my vehicle for 12-24 hours. To be honest, I didn’t even wear it yesterday because it’s too small and very uncomfortable and doesn’t provide an actual seal..
Im not sure why people bother wearing masks around their chin...

Yeah, spraying it with hydrogen peroxide and storing in sealed container for 48hrs is recommended way to disinfect a worn mask.

Please save the N95 masks for the medical workers...

Unless you are close to people for a while, you don't need it. They do.

I’m in healthcare, and have been working every week through all of this. Just giving recommendations as to what is effective and what is not.
