In a Reuters article about the medical logistics of playing football this September.

He said it's doable. But if you read carefully what he says it is nowhere near the done deal some are proclaiming. Tests would have to be done immediately before a game. Stadiums would at best be 1/2 to 1/3 full for social distancing. This is all predicated on our situation improving and a second wave not being as severe.

As most all of us realize, this football season is still tentative AT BEST right now.

Please understand, you have said that the main expert, with every feasible medical credibility, is “kicked to the curb”. And this is the same expert trying to allow for a reasonable approach to playing football, and the replies are simply for either 1) upvotes on a board or, 2) to disprove the libs.

If we have discredited the experts and ignored any journalists whatsoever, where are we getting any info? I honestly have to know the “what’s next” for you all. A few YouTube links from folks with no discernible credentials and some talking points from [insert political pundits from any given media stream].

And fwiw, I can’t wait for the enlightened poster that has a [insert level of removed relation] person that has come across a person who has [insert life altering (for better or worse) experience] to use as the knee-jerk reasoning behind his/her stance.

So by all means, keep saying “damn the torpedos”. Just remember that there are some of us looking out for the well-being of our fellow man and woman (and other classifications). Political followings be damned.

Lol once again... 17 Fauci. When is the last time the worm has actually laid hands on a patient? Also he’s batting below the Mendoza line on being correct so I’ll pass on his ********.

Did he say there weren’t going to be sports with spectators this fall

Just a couple weeks back? So we’ve gone from sports with no spectators in the stands to stadiums at half capacity in two weeks? At this rate we better build onto the stadium

How about this: you do whatever you want to do (within reason), and I'll do whatever I want to do.

What I choose to do is my choice, not yours. Who I choose to listen to is my choice, not yours.

I don't mind at all if you choose to be "looking out for the well-being of our fellow man and woman (and other classifications)," but you can't force me to do it.

The reasoning behind my stance is something I call common sense. I realized a long time ago that I have no real control over another person's thoughts and actions.

Thus, I allow each person to make his/her own choices.

General question: why do liberals try to control people and tell them what to do?

Concerning this virus . . . the death rate for those under 60 years of age is very low, so why are we acting like the death rate is 80% for all ages?

What’s next for you all? The side of cautiously (or not) moving forward has quite clearly laid out what’s next in their scenario but what is next for the rest of you. How long? What is the goal?

It's not 'liberals'. It's people who have loved ones that are over 60 and particularly susceptible to this virus.

Are you not aware that the general public continuing to spread this virus affects everyone regardless of political beliefs?

I'll take "What do ****** human beings say" for $1,000, please Alex.

No one should have to force you to be considerate of other people. In a better world, it would be everyone's default position. We're all in this together after all.

There’s obviously got to be some give-and-take. We can’t stay in quarantine due to the economy. Keeping people safe from the virus is going to kill people through a horrendous economy. Refusing to allow us to open back up is going to kill more people than the virus will.

I'm sure the experts have impressive credentials and most people aren't out to discredit that. But medical credentials don't keep you from being a lying POS.

I'm not a medical expert with credentials but right now I trust my common sense more than I trust any medical expert in the news and especially more than the media. I know a few people in the medical field that have first hand knowledge and no agenda. I trust them. I take their advice and balance it with what i see in the real world and measure my risk from that.

While I don't disagree with the give-and-take comment from a general perspective, I don't get why people keep repeating this "the bad economy is going to kill more people than the virus will" nonsense. The virus has killed approximately 81,000 people in the US alone over the last two or three months (and that's WITH social distancing and other guidelines). And another 286,000 people have died from it worldwide. A poor economy isn't going to kill anywhere near that number.

You're right that we can't stay at home forever. But we should be sensible about how and when we re-open. However, when some people are so fragile that it causes them to freak out and protest over small precautions like wearing masks in public, I start to see the wisdom in erring on the side of caution since those people apparently can't be trusted to make sensible decisions themselves.

I’m having trouble keeping up with it. Can one of you guys saving the world by sheltering at home (or goofing off at work like the rest of us hard workers) put together a list of all Fauci’s predictions in the last month? Then we can see if he’s batting .300 or not. I’m thinking he’d get processed off any team at this point.

Where are the journalists? Because I don’t know of any. I know of a shitload of people claiming to be... but I don’t know if any nationally.

Just in the past week, Two of the four major three letter networks had been busted red handed fabricating or embellishing stories. In one week. This is after multiple times they and others have been caught in the not so distant past. There is also clear favorites that are also currently played in who gets covered and to what degree.

Tell me how I shake that off and believe the next thing out of their mouths? And they had experts that said even with social distancing.. the medical community would be stressed. That was also false. As of the reports last week.... the healthcare industry had more people laid off than manufacturing.

As someone who refuses to let people piss on my head and tell me it’s raining... how do I currently believe national media?

I went to walmart without a mask or gloves yesterday. I wish I had some way of determining how many valuable lives I destroyed. I'm sure my kill rate is very high as I go to Lowes, Walmart, and Dollar General every couple days. I know I will never know the true number but I'm hoping to eclipse the Son of Sam's rookie numbers at least

AGAIN.

Act like we understand what germs are and how this is transmitted.

1. Isolate the sick, and vulnerable.
2. Follow Common sense Health practices.
a. Social Distance
I. no groups of larger than 10
ii. keep 6 ft away from others
b. wear a mask.
c. avoid un needed trips
3 test and trace (you know, like the white house is doing)
If we can do all of this, we can limit the spread and get back to the "new normal" before a vaccine.

Lol just screaming “again” doesn’t mean anything. Do those things until what?

I missed the part on flattening the curve where it went away or where total deaths were reduced. I am not going to waste time on why contact tracing will not work in the US except to say that it certainly can work in a small population like white house staff. But it 100% will not work in a population of more than 300 million with a disease prevalence where it is now and an R0 where this seems to be- not to mention that it would be flatly rejected by Americans and probably unconstitutional.

ETA
I am not against masks or social distancing- I am for them. I just think we are implementing business restrictions that serve no purpose except to hurt the population as a whole while accomplishing no reduction in deaths.

My mom is staying indoors. She has to get medicine. She has to see doctors. She has to have food delivered. All of those are situations that can expose her. It is far less of an exposure IF fewer people in the general public are exposed.

This really isnt that hard to figure out. The science says this can be as bad as it is now, or it can be devastating.

1.3 million people out of 330 million have contracted this. If we continue to relax the measures while the number of cases per 100,000 rises (and it is) and the number of deaths per case rises (and it is) we will not be prepared when the rest of the 328 million are exposed.

70% + of the world will get this virus regardless of the actions taken unless a vaccine is miraculously fast tracked. It doesn't matter if we shut down or open up.

Agreed. Opening back up is going to happen, but it has to be a very controlled and methodical process with a million upon a million variables for each business and how they do it. This is where, as a society and as local communities, need to really be careful and use their best judgement. I also have a huge issue for people that refuse to wear a mask in public. Those people are where we are as a country. Its just straight stupidity. Even if the mask are 10% effective, that snowballs into some real numbers eventually. Everyone should do everything they can to limit their exposure to other people. If you can return to work and do it with relative safety, do it. If you do not have to go back into the office, work with your employer and see if an alternative can be reached. Listen to the federal AND state guidelines. Always act on the side of caution with this virus. Our understanding of this virus is going to change as we progress towards a possible vaccine. Don't allow yourself to be bothered if the scientific community changes a course of action on things such as masks and gloves, etc. We are learning more about this thing every day and I guarantee that some of our recommended social actions are going to change throughout the process.

So, just a reminder:
Social distance whenever you HAVE to go into public. 6 feet min, 12 feet better.
Do not go into public any more than you HAVE to.
Limit groups of people to 10 or less. I would urge less than 10.
Do not go and visit your old grandparents, mothers, etc unless you absolutely have to. Noted that once you do, you have a responsibility to take care of yourself for them.
Wash your hands every opportunity you get for 20+ seconds with water and any kind of soap. Wash every finger, your palm, your thumb, between your fingers, and up your arm 3-4 inches. Make sure everything is scrubbed and you didn't miss anything. Wash them as if you have motor oil on them.
Shave off your beard or mustache.
Refrain from touching your face. Especially in public. If you do, wash your hands immediately.
Always wash up thoroughly prior to eating.
Do not lick door knobs.
If you have a fever, go to the doctor immediately.
If you develop a dry cough, go to the doctor immediately.
If you feel "off" go to the doctor immediately.

Enjoy your time with your family. Work hard to follow any guidelines the scientist are giving you, even if you have a philosophical issue with them.
I would also advise people to go and get the antibody test. If you come back positive, and the doctors can clear you for further transmission, 17 it, you can do whatever you want.

And I'm not saying stay closed. But when you have idiot ******** that will not wear masks to protect others, you have to take more drastic measures.

China has 6 new cases in Wuhan. They will test 10 million people over the next 10 days. We cannot. Someone should answer to that...

So what is your plan? Open back up and kill 7-25% of those over 65 on MS? https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14,0,420.html#caseTable (33,000 to 118,000 dead in Mississippi)

Masks have a compounding effect in that they both protect an individual from transmitting and being exposed to infection. The impact is a dramatic reduction of R0. If we are to assume masks are 80% effective in preventing spread on an individual basis, the overall risk-reduction in a single interaction between two people is 96%. If we are to be conservative and assume that low compliance and mask-quality reduce individual risk by 50% instead of 80%, the overall risk reduction within a single interaction between two people is 75%.

If R0 is approximately 4, and we practice existing risk-mitigating strategies such as hand-hygiene and social distancing in addition to wearing masks, R0 will be reduced to below 1. Any series of interventions which bring R0 below 1 is the difference between unconstrained growth and eventually stopping the spread of infection.

Reduction in the R0 is key until we get a vaccine...
