Yes on both.

If you don’t have fans in attendance at sports by this fall, you’re basically saying no fans until a vaccine/treatment is found. Despite all the work being done on that, there is still not timetable on that. I just don’t see people or sports waiting on something that may be imminent or may be years off.

The main reason I say probably on 2 is because of the economic impact on Starkville if there is no fan attendance.

Both. I would not be surprise they limit the number of fans to season ticket holders.

What are they going to do if one of our players tests positive on Sept. 14? Presumably, our whole team will have to go into isolation, so there goes the Arkansas & Tulane games. And any NC State players who came into contact with him would also need to isolate, so they'd be at a disadvantage for their next two games.

He will be asymptomatic and play the next week like most other 18-22 year olds that get it more than likely. Either that or he will have symptoms and be out because he isn’t able to play. By the time football season gets here the country will be opened up fully and most everyone will have had the virus. 4 months from now you won’t be able to find many people that haven’t already contracted it in this
country.

The athletic department is proceeding under the assumption that there will be fan attendance. I have gotten two emails about seat upgrades for this year. That is what sparked me to post these questions.

I picked out my seats for this fall last week, but I'm not expecting to ever be able to sit in them.

I think it may come down to whatever Alabama decides to do, as was posted in another thread. I wonder when the conferences will be announcing their plans. Seems like it would have to be fairly soon.

I think, at this point, that's what they need to do. Playing without fans, pushing the season back to the spring, or cancelling altogether are all possibilities, but if it's at all possible to play with fans this fall, that's what's going to happen. It will be very interesting to see what happens with the German Bundesliga starting up this weekend, and potentially the Premier League June 1.

Is there really too much liability? Is it not possible for people to attend at their own risk? I just don’t see how someone could sue a college or sports franchise for catching covid at their stadium. It’s a known risk at this point.

Do you think restaurants that do take out now have liability in providing take out?

We will play 2-3 games tops.

Wave 2 cranks up in September. May not be a significant wave, but there will be one and folks will freak out and crawl back into their caves and sports will go with it. Too much liability.

I think we will play football in 2020, but we won’t see the stadium full. Maybe ticket holders are allowed to attend less games, or it’s only students / family in attendance.

If they’re going to modify the attendance policy, they’ll need to make those decisions sooner rather than later. I don’t think that a decision that can wait until August.

This is where I'm at. Maybe even a bit lower. It does SEEM like there will be football, because it's still several months out and I think cognitively we just expect a return to normalcy. But it's hard to think through it and see how, unless we just expect a crazy-high death count to be acceptable. Regardless, I don't think we will see gatherings of thousands of people okay'd, which will effectively eliminate fans.

Yes to both.

If COVID-19 is still a major concern for everyone then, you'll have:
1. 5 minute test turnaround times for teams, and they'll be tested the day before a game, then the team and staff isolated until game time (forget the Dawg Walk). Folks who test positive will be pulled out at that time.
2. Plentiful and clear warnings that if you're over 64 or have one of a list of underlying health issues (or are the sole caregiver for someone else who does), you should not be attending and do so at your own risk.

Maybe students and immediate family members.

Very possible. If you wanted to take a chance on an investment, invest in a company that makes the clear plastic visor that is set into the face mask to protect eyes. I could see the NCAA and NFL requiring some type of fixture in every helmet. Obviously it would have to be made longer to cover the entire mask.

1. Yes, but shortened season
2. Maybe but would be at about 25% max capacity if happens at all. I think first few games have no fans at all.

Yes to both but the season may start late (1st weekend of October) & the number of fans in attendance will probably be limited.

I think the pro sports will play, with no fans. It's easier for them to isolate. I'm not sure about academic based sports on any level. Those would have to be back on campus and that means there is little chance to isolate. You have one confirmed case on a team and the whole team is out for two weeks at the minimum. I'm not saying it won't happen for sure, but the odds for it are much less than the pros.

You can not warn liability away. I suspect we will find out abut the restaraunts eventually. Ther will absolutely be some sued. WE NEED LEGISLATION TO ADDRESS THIS.

1) Yes, but with a late start (October-ish)

2) First few games will be Boxes only with masks required, and no buffet food. Then, all premium seating, but spaced out. But not a full stadium this year, unless we get a vaccine.

If someone could actually sue for catching the virus at somewhere they voluntarily went, then I agree we need legislation. Just hard for me to see someone being able to sue for catching the virus at a game they went to. It’s a known risk anywhere you go.

I’m not being argumentative or a smart *** by asking this but does Kroger or wal mart (or similar stores) have liability risk in this? If not, then why would a sporting event?

Not to mention that I can't how anyone could prove where they caught it.

1) Yes, I say they will play. I think the season will be delayed because colleges will want to make sure there are no major breakouts when the fall semester starts. I figure they'll have some strict social distancing guidelines in place initially to help prevent that - and as a result I don't think they'll allow football practice to begin until mid or late August.

2) Maybe, but only a limited amount. I don't see any way they could allow 60,000 people to fill a stadium, stand in the metal detector lines, concession lines, etc. Maybe they refund season tickets and then sell a limited number with seating spaced out? Something like every other row is left empty, and then only selling 1/3 or 1/2 of the seats for the open rows. That puts you with maybe 10,000 - 15,000 people at a game.

But you could end up with some outrageous scalping going on with such a limited supply.

They do, and there have already been cases filed.

Yes we'll play and yes there will be fans in attendance but we'll be wearing masks. Pretty soon this country is going to get tired of hiding in our houses like a bunch of pussies. We need the strong immune systems out and about passing this ***** virus back in forth until our bodies develop the kung flu killer.

You don't really have to prove it. You just have to get a jury to agree, and it doesn't have to be a 100% vote in a civil case. Legislation is needed, NOW.

Well I would agree that legislation is needed now then. I’m not really shocked someone would try to sue, I’m just shocked courts allow it.
