Even with this spring’s lost revenue that Keenum still doesn’t want us to sell beer at DWS and that is complete horseshit.

The way this year is going beer needs to be served at church and whiskey at DWS

I’ve gotta admit, out of all the hard stances, this really is an odd hill to die on. It’s not as if the only two options here are either nothing or unbridled debauchery. Lay out a plan that opens the door for very limited beer sales at some point in the future, and I feel like 90% of the fan base will be appeased.

Right now, it just feels like he’s satisfying a handful of people while giving the rest of the fan base yet another reason to not come to games

I'm not anti-beer, but I don't understand the amount of angst that folks have about it not happening either.

I doubt that 90% of the fan base cares enough about whether beer is sold to need appeasing. I do think that would appease 99% of SPS posters, however.

Yeah, I should’ve said 90% of those fans that care one way or another.

As far as the angst goes, folks can say what they want, but there are a whole lot of people that enjoy a cold beer when going to an event like this. See concerts, baseball games, NFL, etc. it’s not just a handful of people. It’s tens of thousands. So here we are with an opportunity to do something positive for the people that Keenum relies on for thousands of dollars on an annual basis, and what do we get? A flat, unexplained “No”. No plan, no clear reasons why, not even an “we’re considering our options”. Just a big nope

That’s what is highly irritating to me. I’m sure the man has his reasons, but for the shareholders that he depends on, wtf are they?

I'm a pro-beer guy, I've been drinking it since I was about 15 years old (I'm getting this for my dad,) but I don't really care if they sell it at the stadium or not. I can load up tail gating and do without it for a while.

Some people don't like liquor. I'd be pissed too if I didn't like liquor and would absolutely be pissed enough about it that the only thing that would prevent me from cutting my giving would be keeping priority. It's one thing to take your time, but it's a relatively easy thing to do to makethe game more enjoyable for a good number of fans. Just saying no to it is unnecessarily sticking it in their eyes.

The one caveat I'd have is that if we can't get a vendor to take dram shop liability unless we agree to cut out the BYO stuff, then I would prefer to keep it the way it is. But I doubt that's really the issue.

My perspective is that if I ever see alcohol getting ahead of important things in my life, I force it to the back seat to be sure it doesn't become the boss. Even more so if I start to depend on it to enjoy myself. I can go a whole game Saturday and not drink a drop and still enjoy the relationships, hanging out, game, etc. I'd be concerned for myself if ever that wasn't the case.

Its not as much of an anti-beer / pro-beer argument as it is an anti-fan (which means anti-revenue) / pro-fan argument. Alcohol is in the stadium in droves already. But right now, your only choices are to drink hard liquor (much greater risk of over-indulging), or not drinking at all. Give folks an avenue to modestly consume alcohol (while making money at the same time), and you’ll see better attendance, higher revenue, and believe it or not, probably fewer people who are shitfaced. MSU is also probably the last school in the SEC (and one of the last in the Power 5) that is in any sort of position to turn down easy revenue or increased fan attendance. That’s just reality.

Dr. Keenum has obviously never heard "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy"

I used to drink my fair share of beer many years ago but not anymore. When I would go to my local dirt track and drink it enough to get a good buzz I found I didn’t enjoy the races as much. I personally would rather enjoy a sporting event that I paid to get into completely sober but that’s just me. I can say though there are those that drink too much and make a complete tool out of themselves and then I have to subject my family to that crap. I have no problem at all with DWS selling beer but I know that I will be the one that has to be right next to the complete idiot that can’t hold his liquor.

It's not about getting ahead of important things. It's about the fact that a lot of the fans our athletic department depends on have very full work and family lives already, and leisure time is precious. Attending games regularly is a very expensive endeavor for most fans and a lot of effort. If the university abstains from doing something relatively easy that would make them more money and also make the experience enjoyable for me, that makes it easier to prioritize things where people aren't foregoing revenue to make it a worse experience for me.

And again, I don't personally care about the beer issue because I like the current set up. But I am very near indifferent between watching with friends on TV and making the trek to starkville for games already. If they change the policy where after a long week of work, and making a long drive to starkville, I can no longer enjoy a drink while I watch the game in person, it becomes pretty easy to just not watch the game in person.

Well beer sales would curb the problem of people getting loaded before the game.

Understood. My position is that I don't think that my enjoyment of beer would trump watching sports in person. That feels like trading experiences/relationships for substances to me. Just my opinion. Maybe I'm too on guard for that.

Most likely not, it would curb people sneaking liquor in. It’s like a good chunk of our fanbase thinks that beer and liquor have the same alcohol content.

I can go a whole game & not even think about having a beer too. When I go to pro sporting events, sometimes I’ll buy a beer & sometimes I don’t. But it does piss me off that Keemun & Cohen are making that decision for everyone & costing my school a source of much needed revenue.

I don't drink alcohol in any form but I agree it should be sold at Davis Wade. It's time all the average booster of the school start putting pressure on him. My 1600.00 bulldawg contribution a year does not mean much to them but if all 55K plus boosters starting putting pressure he will take notice. I think the pressure from all the average boosters threatening not to renewal tickets is what really got Moorhead fired. The bowl lose was the way to say face. I think it works and message boards is how you organize the fan base.

Quick model using this article as the basis for my assumptions. Ole Miss Averaged $125K per game in revenue for the 3 games that they sold. Using them as comparable. Using A&M as the commission (sited in article) number, appears to be 50% (1M increase in rev and $500K increase in commissions). Season 2020 has 7 home games so $875,000 in revenue with $437,500 in commissions? The article quotes that Ole Miss sold beer and seltzers between $8-$9 ea. I don't care either way, just got curios and wanted to quantify. Someone please check my math, its been a long day.

Also apparently there also was no appreciable increase in fan incidents
