Charles Barkley was on Calipari’s radio show and said his top 5 NBA players were Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul-Jabar. No order after Jordan. Said Kobe six and Lebron seven. Said Lebron couldn’t have played against the Bad Boys.

If he doesn't think Lebron could have played against the Bad Boys, then he shouldn't have him ahead of Bird and Magic.

The NBA is the only sport that plays this game. You never hear MLB guys say “Jacob DeGrom wouldn’t be able to handle 1970’s hitters” or NFL fans be like “Drew Brees couldn’t complete a pass against the Purple People Eaters”.

You do hear that in MLB from time to time. Today’s hitters get a lot more comfortable at the plate because the up and in pitch has been eliminated. Plus the hitters are padded from head to toe.

I agree and that's a fun debate too. If they let someone like deGrom pitch up and in, he'd be even more dominant.

I think it's easier to hit home runs in this era, but it's also easier to strike out hitters in this era because everyone's adopting that undercut swing. It's why I think a guy like Mangum could be very successful in the majors if he learns some plate discipline and takes more walks - there's not a lot of players like him int he show anymore.

I wouldn’t exactly call them padded from head to toe. Besides, it’s pretty much the norm for guys to throw mid 90’s today. That was not the case even 20 years ago.

Bill Russell was 6'10 215. Lebron would back him down then dunk on him at will.

If 2020 Mike Trout played in the 1950's he'd hit .400 with 70 HR.

With stats like that, you'd think that Chamberlain had more rings and more MVPs than Russell. Of course, learning the truth would require you to understand that there's a lot more to this game than volume scoring.

Wait until you find out how many Hall of Fame teammates each had during their careers.

LOL yes Bill Russell had 5 with all that Hall of Fame help and Wilt had 4 with nobodies on his teams. If only that were as close as Wilt's lead in scoring and rebounding head to head.

Hell why don't we compare how many women each slept with while we are at it.

Nah - LeBron would be whistled for traveling or carrying every other trip down the court.

So then I guess we have to discount LeBron's accomplishments too, since most of his accomplishments came while playing on super teams?

Tell me about what the other years looked like, since I said "most of" and not "all of."

Lebron has won championships with precisely one other surefire HOFer in D Wade. Wanna take a stab at how many Russell played with?

Or who knows maybe you'll move the goalposts and find something else to be wrong about?

I'm not moving goalpost. Just laying traps and watching you walk right into them.

I guess I’m in the minority, but Shaq is my all time best center.

He would destroy Wilt and Russell. It wouldn’t be a competition imo. Kareem had skill, so the gap between him and Shaq isn’t very big.

I agree that Shaq was better than both, and he pretty much dominated everyone in his era, although Hakeem held his own.

I think Lebron and Kobe would be elite players in the 90's as well, They would ave adjusted to the rules of the day.

Jordan with today's rules would have averaged 50+ points a game. Without hand checks and the eurostep travel rules, no one is staying in front of him, and he's shooting more FT than Harden.

Bill Russell spoke at MSU in the early 70's in what I believe was called the "Lectern Series". Me and a friend were in the Union that day and Mr. Russell was sitting in a quiet area alone. Well how many chances do you get to meet Bill freaking Russell ??? ??? So we went over and spoke and actually I believe he was glad to have someone to talk to. He was very nice and engaging guy with a great sense of humor. Good Times !

These arent good examples of flops. They appear, based on the incredibly limited amount of video, to be legitimate fouls. To be clear, drawing attention to a legitimate foul isnt a flop.

Those are all horrific flops. And on at least two of them, the foul is questionable at best. And I stopped linking gifs out of exhaustion. There are a ton of examples out there.

I heard Nate Archibald say in an interview--That if Bird played today he could average over 30 a game. He said the mugging that was allowed in the 80s doesn't apply today. the rules have changed. Magic and Bird would dominate in any era. Rick Barry get's no love but he was dominate on offense.

Chandler set about the most illegal screen there is. Its common in the NBA, because their rule enforcement is trash, but its quite clearly a foul based on...rules.
Chandler is moving towards James while setting the screen. Thats like the first thing I was taught in 3rd grade when learning to set screens- set your feet and dont move. Actually, thats about all there is to it, so he violated everything about setting a screen.

The Paul George pushoff is something that could be a no call, but George uses his right arm to make contact with James' chest, create space, then step out for the pass. Look up the rules- you cant create space like that. Foul.

Once again(or aGAIN or however you do that), a flop is different from drawing attention to a foul.

How do you know that? Had Mike Trout played in the 50’s he wouldn’t be the Mike Trout of today. Players then didn’t have the luxury of year round training, heck few of any weight trained back then. A lot had offseason jobs back then. They didn’t have modern nutrition, and no flights so they rode trains and buses which would have no doubt hindered performance. Without all that he’s not the same Mike Trout.
