Thinking about this for my wife. Who has one and are they worth the 2k plus monthly fee?

Ive got one. Just like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. Some of the instructors are really hot so that makes the classes more enjoyable.

It's not 2k for the bike. It's also $56 per month for subscription to the classes.

You may also want to look into buying a bike along with a smart trainer if she may want to ride outside at some point. There are a few interactive online programs like Zwift. I use it and enjoy it.

My wife got me one about 13-14 years ago (she was trying to tell me something...I think).. Don't think she paid over $150 for it. It finally wore out approx a year ago. (I actually worn out a stationary bike after approx 40,000 miles and not from handles wearing out from hanging clothes...I'm in a rare class). It didn't have all that stuff... just tension setting, time, MPH, distance in miles and some other stuff...calories, fat burned etc of no importance.

Listen to music on MP3 player (or Pandora) which I change every day (I have over 400 GB of music mp3'ed) and in the last year started listening to music and reading kindle while riding...just get in a habit and it is not hard. Did watch 8 years of 24 which took most of a year.

Find a cushion for the seat..I use a small throw cushion.

Newest bike cost approx 400 dollars and and is no better than 150 dollar bike.

Can't imagine that a 2000 dollar bike works any better and certainly not paying 600-700 dollars a year for someone to yell at me.

Will be a clothes hanger in a year just like all those bowflexes a few years ago. Why not just get a real bike for 200 dollars?

I got one in February and love it. I use it 4-6 times a week. If you are a person who likes being coached and like having data you are more likely to enjoy the peleton. I burn a lot more calories on my peleton than when working out on my own because of the push you get from the classes to keep up to a certain pace and resistance. If you don't think you would like the class aspect of it then don't spend the money.

I bought one for my wife the first week of Jan. She rides it about 1/2 times a week and I’m riding it about 2/3 times a week. My recommendation. Figure out where you want to put it. My wife won’t allow it in the bedroom and we don’t really have an office or workout room so we put it in the garage so that we SEE IT everyday. We did the 4 year same as cash plan (why not).

It’s not cheap but it find it amazingly engaging.

I’ve had one for about two years. Best thing for fitness I’ve ever bought. I was hit by a car on my bike a few years ago so quit riding the roads. This has been a great alternative because Ioved riding the bike. I do have a mountain bike that I ride out at Ridgeland some too.

Quality real bike + smart trainer + zwift.

You can then actually ride outside when weather is nice and it will be cheaper for setup and ongoing.
Zwift is almost 1/4 the monthly cost of Peloton and you can race others, do group rides or ride solo, pick from dozens of preset routes, or just free ride thru the game.

If the above setup isn't preferred(not sure why, but ok), then Peloton is next best. Its absurdly expensive for what you get, but if its utilized then it can easily be argued that its worth the cost.

Because there are very few quality bikes for $200, and all are used, and most will need immediate maintenance and some consumables replaced. $500 is the floor for quality road bikes, even then a lot of cost concessions are made to hit that price point, and its basically online retail options which require understanding of assembly or pay for setup.
$750 is about the floor for quality road bikes in retail shops.
