Without a doubt, the creative destruction of capitalism is the best way to run an economy.....

But, there are advantages to being able to plan out things a couple decades.

Planning an economy be based on the next quarter is... problematic. "Capitalism" needs an overhaul starting with the criminal banking system.

A Proxy war because they can't invade us and we can't invade them, also, I hope the nuclear option wont be an option, so it will be held in a 3rd party country.

Certain people who are saying, "Capitalism has changed forever," are doing China's bidding for them. China does everything it can, Russia too but to less effect, for us to distract ourselves.

Capitalism was broke long before China got involved. Everytime we saved a company that should have been allowed to go bankrupt, we broke it. Now major companies think they should be able to do what they want and then have the government bail them out when they make bad decisions.

You would think it would be pretty simple to unify most of our major allies (EU, Australia, Canada, etc), the entire US political system and the US & World media to go after China. Air their dirty laundry relentlessly in the public domain in lock step. Hold those ******** accountable for this virus and all their sins.

China must act like a responsible world power if they want to be respected. It's gone far too long letting them get away with murder. I mean that in the literal sense as well. They got into the WTO on the premise they were still a developing country. Well they are largely developed now. It's time to hold them accountable and stop being a bad actor on every damn thing they are involved in.

Wouldn't that be a problem with our leaders then and not necessarily with capitalism?

Capitalism has been broken for as long as I've been alive. It was broken before that too, but perhaps a bit less so.
There is simply too much government intervention and regulation to claim our system is capitalistic in nature.

What we have is a mixed economy. And no, that isn't broken.

If they need bailing out and are of such importance to the national fabric we should just nationalize them

Sometimes saving a broken company that employs thousands or even tens of thousands is worth bailing out. The economic damage of letting those companies complete fail would be much more far reaching and long lasting that capitalism would be threatened as the masses would become desperate from the economic strife. It's actually been crony politicians who didn't build into the bailout legislation ways to prevent executives from getting wealthy off the bailouts.

Thankfully, even for all its faults, the current bailout loan legislation does include provisions on executive pay, buybacks, etc for those companies that take the loans.

Capitalism is not the problem, it's crony politicians. You're seeing enormous companies across the country really take the fight to covid-19 right now and the companies are responding to the free market (we the people), who are demanding our companies play a larger role supporting their employees and the communities they operate in during this time period.

I’ll agree with that. The only thing I ask is a more watchful eye on all the companies merging. Many industries now are oligarchies with very little competition.

Unfortunately all our "friendly" countries view us as Uncle Piggy Bank, and also expect us to provide all the boots on the ground. The only way they would ever again join us in a war, in a significant way, would be if they themselves were to be invaded. Then it would be "Help! Help!"

Ahhh. This argument is the game the left has been playing since Bern got eliminated. We are arguably the most capitalistic country on the planet. But progressives and the media are wishing to redefine our economic system via a semantics game because "cApItaLizm iz bAd". "We got public schools, public road and public servants so we aren't reeeeaaaaaalllllyyyyyyy capitalists". That's the bed they want to lay in because there's nothing left to argue. Its the same exact game the media did with the redefining of the word "thug". 15 years ago it meant a rogue or criminal. Then all of a sudden the media defined the word to give it racial undertones.

Who do you think puts them in office? It's not a chicken egg scenario, the problem with liberal democracy is that it's by far the easiest to subvert and control from the sidelines. Liberal democracy is nothing more than organized buck passing. I'd rather have the Fortune 500 CEO's as our Congress because then our oligarchy would actually be out in the open.

True, but they've also started contributing more to NATO, Mexico has tens of thousands of soldiers helping guard the border, we did get a new NAFTA....all you have to do is ask and hold them accountable and magically, they don't take advantage of us any more.

This is the question. Any other system gets closer to a shared economy. A shared economy where those that do the minimum are rewarded equally to those that carry the load. We keep score in sports and we give grades in school. Should we stop keeping score and giving grades when it really matters?

Keep elections local. Change campaign finance laws so that it prevents so much outside money from coming into local elections. Maybe something a simple as 60% of overall funds raised must come from the district or within 50 miles of the district??

It's not that hard. Something like that would make elections more local and our Senate and House more representative of the people. Could even shelve the term limits debate for a while because I see both pros and cons to term limits.

It seems like most major conflicts now are fought on the import / export landscape. If the US and several other countries joined together to stop all loads in and out of China for a period of time, I'm not sure who it would hurt worse. We might eventually break China but it would be painful for us and would impact a lot more than just medical and tech supplies.

Not if you have a sense of community and the shame factor in not doing your part. See: Denmark.

Our problem is there are too many people within our borders that don't share our natural impulses for these things and welcome the leeching. In fact your middle class WASPy sentiments have been hacked to "i don't want a handout i don't want any government benefiting me" to take from you and hand out to everyone else here and around the world.

NOT a private federal reserve system perpetuating debt slavery on the citizenry

Your debt slavery is created by your want for things you can't afford. When you choose to participate it's no longer slavery. Its called liberty.

When you come out of college with $35k in student loans and choose to buy a $40k car, is the system really to blame?

Every financial problem in your life is caused and can be corrected by the person staring at you in the mirror. Life is not always fair. The slope is tilted against many. Run a little harder and you will realize that running up a steep hill means you will get to coast on the other side.

Tell us... What have you ever done for the community as a whole? What do you do to serve the greater good?

The social safety net should be reserved for those who can't help themselves, not those that feel entitled to more than they deserve because they are not willing to work for it.

Except it's not. You're being exploited, why do you want to continue in a system where you will be further and further exploited?

I don't have the same "Boxer the Horse" mentality that most American conservatives do about this fraudulent system and society. I want a new system.

This has two downvotes (so far) and I find that astounding that there are people who actually think in a manner that they aren't responsible for their own actions. It says a lot about - well, a lot, actually.

Your nation is the most culturally Marxist country in the world. Capitalism created communism. Literally. Bolshevik's were funded by Wall Street banks. Henry Ford built up the Soviet military. Capitalism is beholden to the almighty dollar that all forms of cultural rot must be ignored.

Here's the deal with liberals. They call conservatives Trumptards because they voted for Trump and "exploited" because they prefer capitalism as their economic system so they offer us the alternatives of "Dementia Joe" Biden and socialism and wonder why everyone dosen't see it their way. You can't even make this **** up !
