Data is showing about half of the deaths from this are from nursing homes. Getting rid of football this fall may not help with the death toll very much. Maybe focus more efforts on nursing homes and lessen restrictions on the rest of the populace.

There is a lot of sketchy nursing homes as it is..roughly 50% of people admitted to nursing homes die within 3 years...I wonder how much the death rate in nursing homes has changed since Covid?

Thats my thinking... Not opposed to moving back to late Sept/early Oct start and playing into December though.

There's no way to handle football, basketball, baseball, softball, etc. etc. all at the same time.

Baseball and softball do not even register with the media types floating this idea. And probably the same for many ADs.

I think it's a matter of when, not if, the season is pushed to early 2021. We may not be able to play then either, but I don't see any way we're going to be able to play this fall.

A question I heard on a radio show that was brought up that I thought was interesting. If CFB is delayed / cancelled, what do you do with the December signing day? Kind of hard for coaches to evaluate guys for their senior seasons (which will likely also be cancelled), and its especially hard for guys to evaluate the programs they are signing with since there is no season. For example, with both Leach and Kiffin, recruits will have no clue how those offenses look at the current schools with their existing personnel and limitations. Kinda puts us both at a disadvantage. Do you eliminate the December signing day and push it all back to February 2021 (or later)?

Until they want to visit someone in those nursing homes.

Yes, cancelling football is more effective than controlling visitation. You seriously think this? You think that cancelling football and allowing visitation will result in better infection control than continuing to hold visitation and ramping up prevention efforts within nursing homes?
All of our efforts thus far with regards to sheltering do nothing for the nursing home population.

Make it voluntary participation. The problem for college is two-fold. I suspect the NFL and other pro sports will happen, probably without fans. Problem is college guys aren't paid (that debate is for another time), so if students aren't in school, you can't make the players play. So I say make it voluntary. I guarantee you most of them will still play. It'll weed out the guys who truly don't care, that's for sure. And if they choose not to play, some restrictions on them will need to be added. I mean - they are still getting a scholarship for playing football, so some access will need to be revoked in some way.

yep, it's like a death sentence, especially now. Break your hip, got to hospital, then nursing home and boom, your dead.

I don't know - imagine if all of the sports got pushed to a Jan/Feb start date. Think of the weekend. Since we are the SEC, football takes precedence and schedule Basketball and Baseball around it. Come into town after work on Friday, watch a baseball game. On Saturday, Football and baseball in the morning/evening, do basketball and another baseball sunday, women's bball tuesday, baseball wednesday, mens bball thursday.

The fall will suck, but the spring would be AWESOME.

No students in school = no football

It's that simple..

Start mid-Sept (which is where FB season should’ve started decades ago anyway) and finish regular season mid-Dec.

I tend to agree, but I heard an interview with Greg Sankey with the JOX Roundtable guys in Birmingham from Tuesday and Sankey did not close the door on having football as long as schools were operational, the implication being schools had online classes but not in-classroom activities. He was also asked if having a handful of schools deciding not to have classes and/or field football teams would mean no football for everyone and (after first dodging the question) he said he did not think that would be the case, that they could continue on with those that decided to play.

He was mostly non-committal about everything and said they are continuing to evaluate the situation and have time to make decisions, but I thought the comments above were interesting. I certainly got the impression that they are going to wait as long as possible to make any decisions.

There may or may not be football this fall. But I just don’t understand how you can look at the last 1.5 months and project that out 4 months from now. In a span of 6 weeks, we have gone from total shutdown to stuff starting to open back up. So, it’s obvious a lot can happen in 4 months.

The grief you get is because you speak in such certain terms like the decision has already been made to not play. I agree college football is a little different but basically every sport has said they intend on playing this year, at some point and in some manner.

Every game can be Memphis 2000.

17 no! I damn near died that day. My sister and her husband also brought their newborn baby to that game. HUGE mistake. Think they left after end of 1st quarter. I just remember the entire Liberty Bowl selling out of water and people passing out in the stands.

I say put it during the spring. If the NFL is back in the fall (even with no fans) then I am 100% okay with it. Possibly 10 months of football? Sign. Me. The. 17. UP.
