Struck out on 4 pitches against Van Johnson. For the record, I was happy about fouling one off. He threw a 1 hitter against us with the one hit a chopper that a guy beat out for an infield hit.

He ended up as one of the better closers at State and I think had the most saves in a season at one time.

I once took Van deep to straightaway center. Of course we were both chubby twelve-year olds at the time........

I played baseball for New Hope back in the early 90’s. Kirk Presley was a phenomenal pitcher. He could also hit pretty well also. During one game against them at home in 1993, he hit a grand slam over my head in left field. I’m not sure if that ball has ever landed !

Played on the same T-Ball team with Stephen Head who went on to Ole Miss and I think made it to AAA in the Indians organization. He was the best player on the team even when we were 5/6. I vaguely remember him hitting a couple bombs out of the park off the tee (or getting really close).

Van Pope (3B forever in the Braves system) hit a HR off of me when he was 10, I was 9. In coach-pitch he would hit a bomb almost every AB, It was like watching someone play a video game. That year him and Stephen Head were on the same team.

Also played against Jesse Carver in junior high, went on to be in MSUs bullpen (and also learned he played a couple games in the Royals rookie league after).

Boobie Dixon.

Drexler Johnson.

Jimmy Johns was the best overall athlete I saw in four years of track and field. He was a senior when I was a freshman. He threw the discus 3.5x farther than i could that day and he was upset with himself for not having a good day.

Not the best athlete, but Pete Young. MFer threw aspirin tablets. Totally unhittable.

Didn't play against because I didn't play basketball... but went to high school with JJ Redick. Our high school had a great team, but he carried us to a state championship and it was a cool thing to witness.

When Coach K is coming to your school to watch basketball games, it's kind of a big deal.

Played Jr. High football with Clarence Harmon and Jeffery Moore. Both wound up in the pro's. Jeffery had speed and moves, he would juke you and leave you grasping at air. Clarence had brute power. He would just run over you. I'm willing to bet that a good portion of the aches and pains I have today are from Clarence trucking me in practice. Kosciusko had some damn good teams back in those days. Art Nester was head coach but he left us for Louisville and KO promoted a little known assistant named Ricky Joe Black to HC. Joe Woods was one of the assistant coaches.

Mat Butler hit about a 440 foot bomb against us in high school. That whole late 90s Hattiesburg team was ridiculous - Butler, Jeff Lacher, Craig Tatum, Chris Heath.
And I seemed to play against a lot of athletes in their 'back up" sports:
Played against Jerious Norwood in baseball. He didn't steal bases, the bases just surrendered themselves to him.
Reggie Myles hit 3 homers in a game against us.
Got a few hits off of Michael Spurlock in 12 year old all stars.
Played baseball with Jackie Butler who got a ring in the NBA. A 6'10" pitcher with poor control throwing off a mound is a bit nerve racking.
And beat Earl Barron in tennis. You don't lob over future NBA centers.

Legend has it that Coach34 hit a homerun that dinged the fire station beyond Hillcrest's center field fence, but that isnt half of it. I was there and saw that ball go over them mountains.**

Not in high school but I played a pick-up basketball game once with Kenny "Sky" Walker. He was very cool about playing with a group of nobodies. Drained a couple of threes but did a lot of passing. Nice guy.

I've played pickup ball with Jerry Rice several times. Dude could play, but he was also pretty humble about it.

Pitched with Matthew Butler and Jeff Lacher on the Mississippi Stars our junior year in 98. Butler was so fundamentally sound with some easy gas. I actually lead the team in wins that fall. I do remember having a 3 hit shutout on Swayze field against team out of Bham.

Didn't play against, but had 4 years of weight training in HS with Antwan Edwards. Dude was pure athlete.

Socks had mine earlier with Kirk Presley. The movement on his fastball was deadly.

the Allbritton brothers, Jeremy and Jason at Parklane. those cats were gooooood! i think Jeremy hit a HR to straight center that still hasn't landed. i was in the 8th grade. all our pitchers were ran out, so they brought me in. i was clocked at 93 for three pitches. pitched an inning. gave up 0 hits. highlight of my HS career.

Told this before... in '93 we played an intramural basketball team named Prop 48. We were a good little frat team. We all played in high school.

Prop 48 shows up... 2 black dudes.. 2 white dudes.. that's it. 4 players to play full court 5 on 5.

They beat us like a rented mule. It was an ungodly shellacking. My mind has blocked the final score from memory to save my psyche.

Don't know who the 2 whites dudes were.... The other two were Darryl Wilson and Eric Moulds.

Darren Williams. Freak Athlete. Sad Story.

John Eubanks went to my high school. He played for Southern Miss and the Redskins. I ran a 200 meters against him in track practice. He was finished and I had run about 100 meters.

William bedford...although I was what you'd call a foul specialist, playing late in games where we might need to foul repeatedly.

Anthony Williams Forest hill high school. Best raw athlete hands down I’ve ever seen. Baseball, football, and track. He’s just so happens to be Anthony Dixon’s Dad. As a side note Boobies mom was the best female athlete I’ve ever seen as well. Good people too
I played baseball with AW at Hinds. Dude could fly. I had no idea he was Boobie’s Dad!

I watched this beast put our DE on his butt every play as a FB before the TB got hurt, and Big Al moved to TB. That worked out well for us.

I also batted against Mickey Callaway in fall ball...lucked up and put one in play.

From Stone County 88'-91':
Football - Played against Michael Davis (Morton) in playoffs, we won but he gained 7 or 8 yards per play., Bryant Mix (Water Valley) - State championship game, absolute beast - they won. Eric Moulds (George County) we usually beat them but he could flat out ball, Chris Mangum (Magee) we beat that *** in the playoffs, I laid him out coming across middle on a tight end drag. Derick Tate - we should have beat them, we fumbled 9 times on a rainy night (damn Newman's).

Baseball - Gary Rath (Long Beach), Single. Bubba Dixon (Cant remember)- Home Run, Howard Battle (Mercy Cross)- Home Run, Jay Powell (West Lauderale) Sac. Bunt, they put us out of the playoffs 2 years in a row. Bill Lott (Petal) Stuck out, Bert Geheart (New Hope) - Stuck out, he no hit us and 1 hit us in the third game.

I am sure there were others

David Fair. Starkville High School. Might have won the Heisman at Mississippi St if he didn’t blow out his ACL. He was 6’2” 225lb running back in the mid 80’s that ran a legitimate 4.5 40.

Yep, Juan Long played with Eric on intramurals around then also. Moulds was a beast on the court. I think our team scored 8 on them.

High school:

Football was against Kodi Burns from Northside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Dude played safety and QB. I think he had 3 interceptions and threw for 5 touchdowns and ran for 2 more against us. He went on to play at Auburn around 2010-2013.

Basketball: Fred Gulley from Fayetteville High. He didn’t play well against us offensively but he had the longest arms I’ve ever seen and the quickest hands. I don’t know how many steals and blocked shots he had that game but he was a great point guard and played at Arkansas and Oklahoma State.

In College:

Janoris Jenkins from North Alabama and formerly Florida. Dude had 2 interceptions with one taken back for 6 and had a punt return and a kick return taken back for 6 against us. He also hit me so hard on a crossing route that my contact flew out and I lost an ear pad. Still caught it though.

Malcolm Butler DB from West Alabama and more famously known for that game sealing INT in the super bowl against the Seahawks. Guy just shut down an entire side of the field and baited our QB into several INT’s.

My senior year in college we played against West Alabama again and they had Tyreek Hill... his speed on tv is incredible but in person... never seen anything like it. Couldn’t be touched on punt returns or kickoff returns. Unbelievable player.
