Logan’s Roadhouse, based in Nashville, announced that it had fired all employees and closed all 261 restaurants across the nation. They also say it is likely that they will not reopen. Just the beginning for large chains I am afraid.

That's bad because it happened all at once when the affected people can't find alternatives, however, I think that this specific example is one of a dying franchise just dying faster than they would have. They've been in bankruptcy and those things have been closing all over the place anyway. It obviously would have been easier on employees if each restaurant had just died a slow natural death and the displaced employees entered a market that could take them on.

Agree, they (and this type of restaurant in general) have been dying slowly for a while.

Chain restaurants are an eyesore. Eat local.
I hope you are also buying products locally (as much as possible). We are making Bentonville, AR, Goodlettsville, TN and Cincinnati, OH rich around these parts.

I do my best to shop/eat local too.

That one is addition by subtraction.

Yea, the silver lining is that there are going to be a good number of buildings open in high traffic areas for new restaurants. Most locations will probably end up with a similar type chain catering to the lowest common denominator b/c of the expense of the property, but it will be worse b/c they try to fit it into an existing building and layout, but hopefully some of them will see some local restauranteurs try to do something cool with them. I'm assuming there is a Logan's on the interestate in Birmingham. It would be cool to see somebody like Chris Hastings try to do something with it and maybe come up with a standard menu that can generate the volume to pay rent at a place like that but also have some quality and uniqueness to it.

This is a bad example. It was extremely poorly run and...
Craftworks, LLC, the parent company for Logan's filed Chapter 11 on March 3rd. Nothing to do with Covid19. The CEO and CFO were canned for not getting permission from the board and conservators to pay $7mm in taxes a few weeks later. The CEO previously ran the holding company for O'Charleys who filed in January.

Coronavirus is a hidden blessing for these employees, they will get much better support now than if the company would have died it's natural death. Do not invest any company run buy Hazem Ouf... He doesn't have the Midas touch.

Is there still time to turn the old McDonald’s on Hwy 12 into a Logan’s before this is finalized?

They filed BK in 2016.

The lender withdrew financing to keep the bankrupt company in operation until it could emerge from Chapter 11 protection. The debtor-in-possession financing was withdrawn because of the “unprecedented and unforeseen outbreak of COVID-19,” the company, Craftworks Holdings, said in a court filing.
Now the owners said it is possible the restaurants won’t ever reopen, according to the report.

So this sucks, and hopefully is an isolated case due the BK and the $ being withdrawn

20%??? That would be generous in that shark infested world. I have an acquaintance that used to manage one of those places. 30-39% was the average interest rate. Its highway robbery... but yeah, we'll end up with more of those Im sure.

Logan's was not a very well run business. The few times that I had been there in the last few years service was terrible

Or O’Charley’s. They had already been closing restaurants, but this can expedite the shut down.

I hope O'Charley's doesn't go down completely. I visit a small Indiana town for work. I eat at the O'Charley's every time I go and it is fantastic. It may not be true for all of their restaurants but at least one of them is really good.

They are going to be fine.. I assume all of those old folks we see out and about are swinging by The Cracker Barrel to get Uncle Herschel's Breakfast platter.

Funny. I've eaten at Logan's several times, and the best thing was eating the roasted peanuts in the shell and washing them down with cold beer. I never got a steak that was anywhere close to tender. The only thing I liked on their menu was the grilled meatloaf. It was hard to screw that up.

Can say I haven’t eaten at a Roadhouse enough to keep it open in the last 5 years.

Last one I ate at was fantastic and also in a small Indiana town. Greensburg to be precise.

That Bentonville bunch gets almost all their inventory from China. I wonder if that'll change after this is all over.

I liked Logan's OK, but those type places come and go. It wasn't long ago that Applebee's closed a lot of restaurants, as well as Ruby Tuesday's - and those closures were during good economic times. Logan's must have been right on the edge of closure anyway.
