Per Cohen’s statement,

‘No matter the context for many Americans the image of a noose is never appropriate…’ According to that logic, there should be no photographs or other representation of a noose or a lynching in a Civil Rights Museum, in any Museum of History, in any history book, in any documentary, or in any movie, etc..

I guess Cohen never cared for "Gunsmoke," "In Cold Blood," "Hang ‘Em High," "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," "The Ox-Bow Incident," documentaries, books, or history.

And don’t tell me that I’m taking it out of context.

note: the other thread was getting too long

Maybe the idea is to get Leach off Twitter before he does actually tweet something he can't recover from. He hasn't tweeted since his apology.

Two things that I think fans need to be aware of here...

1. Cohen suffered a humiliating situation with Cannizaro, he had to fire his hand-picked failed football coach after 2 years, and Vic slipped through his fingers just last week. Personally, I think Cohen’s done some really good things, and he’s also made some bad decisions. Either way, he’s feeling some pressure right now, so there’s not a ton of leniency at the moment for him to do anything other than toe the line

2. When it comes to race, there are always going to be a million different opinions out there, and there will always be people that can find ways to be offended. However, in this particular case, it is far from coincidence that a player jumped at the chance to latch on to this when immediate eligibility is at stake. I’m not telling people how to feel and I’m not saying that there wasn’t anyone genuinely offended. I am saying that in one particular player’s case, it’s an extremely convenient argument for waiving a sit-out requirement

If Cohen is standing in a hole, the first thing he'll think of is a shovel. He's a a woke AD...which is a travesty.

Skip and Shannon about to discuss Cohen's response to the tweet on FS1. I'm sure they will give MSU a pass.**

He was a good baseball coach. That’s it.

I will contend that he sucked there too. So what if a bunch of future major leaguers took him to the finals in 2013? He blew it and got outcoached in the final series against UCLA. His body of work as a coach for us was mediocre to below average.

I'm beginning to think Leach will never coach a down at MSU. Media won't let up.

This is the problem with the statement. Now it’s a talking point for national media again after people had pretty much moved on from it after the weekend.

I've thought the exact same thing. Cohen resuscitated this whole thing with his unnecessary badly timed PC letter. I'm done with Cohen. He can take that PC crap and go to work for the SEC or maybe a commentator at ESPN.

THe other problem is you have to have people on staff that don't spend all day on 17ing twitter. Twitter is still relatively insignificant. But people involved in media relations and PR are disproportionately on it, so they have no 17ing clue how to respond to it, which in most cases, is to not respond to it.

Putting out a statement immediately would have been fine. Would have disagreed with that decision, but not obviously wrong. Ignoring it all together would have been fine. Very few people were actually bothered by it and even the vast majority of those recognize that it's an issue with them and not Leach. But letting it more or less blow over and then fanning the flames is obviously incompetent. If COhen made the decision to do so, I would think that's a sign of the pressure getting to him. If his PR people convinced him he had to do it, they need to be fired for incompetence yesterday.

The thought crossed my mind last week that he may be the 2nd ex-Washington St. coach in the SEC to get fired before he ever coaches a game. I don't think it will come to that though. It had almost died down when Cohen stupidly resurrected it yesterday.

Since we are not a championship program in the SEC. The bar to reach at MSU includes what Cohen accomplished. Someday, some coach/team will raise the bar. Until then, Cohen and his team accomplished quite a bit to be proud of.

In the words of my 7,248 year run as a die hard MSU Sports fan, "Maybe next year...."

As far as ADs go, he has not been all that bad, compared with those who came before him.

Leach? He has done OK for a coach who has still not held a practice, or coached a game.

Shannon says every black player should transfer.

To Tugaloo? To Grambling? To Alcorn? To somewhere that has never experienced the Black definition of racism, which is situationally variable and constantly evolving to the latest perceived incident?

I'm not sure where they need to transfer.

Screams of begging to be relevant!! Remember that there are no sports going on at all, so what are these buffoons going to talk about?? Sharpe is a big mouthed douche.

Yeah he is. He's a huge Dak hater too, so that is the reason for his rant I'm sure.

I agree with you completely. This whole situation has been blown out of proportion and lets get past it. The sooner, the better. John Cohen is TRUE maroon and is doing a great job.

And by Cohen admitting it was unintentionally racist in his statement, any player will now have a decent shot at a waiver from the NCAA. We better hope some starters don’t decide to bolt. I know we are going to lose some people down the depth chart, but when the team realizes Cohen gave them the ticket to transfer and not sit out, the floodgates may open.

I'm as big a Cohen critic as there is, but he recruited those players and he coached those players. Best team MSU has ever had. 85 had a lot more top line talent, but that team had more depth and was better coached.

The team, yes, but I would say that team won more in spite of Cohen than because of him. There was nothing spectacular about his coaching style that helped the 2013 team achieve what they did. I'm quite proud of the team because it was a major accomplishment, but in my opinion, Cohen just so happened to be riding the bus along with them.

If Leach is fired because of this I’m officially turning in my maroon card. No two ways about it.

Many people are true maroon. However I've been going to State football games since the 1980s. I don't recall a big cluster F than last years in stadium football game experience. Can't get in the stadium. Can't get concessions. Just ridiculous.

then you have all this other going on.

Kinda reminds me of a 25 year old, single woman with no kids that makes a snide remark about how a mom is raising her kids. When you have zero responsibilities for anything in the world other than yourself, it’s real easy to be a judgmental douchebag

Fixed it for you. Cohen is a 17'n arrogant prick, the only maroon in him is his ego, he thinks he's MSU, I'd take Stricklin back in a heartbeat. The only thing worse than someone being way in over his head is someone who has no idea he is in over his head. Cohen is too stubborn to admit he is not equipped to be an AD.

Exactly, Cohen is stupid for making it an issue again for no good reason. Instead of letting people move on he dregs it back up again with a statement that threw Leach under the bus like he had called a player the N word or something. Sports is so dead right now these talking heads are looking for anything to talk about and Cohen just gave them their Wednesday topic. Our athletic department is really on amateur hour right now. We lose the most successful coach we've ever had and we are responding days and days later to something that should have never been a significant issue in the first place.
