Should Cohen have thanked Schaefer in his official statement last night....

some people were saying it was unprofessional. Curious of everyone's thoughts.

"Earlier today, I met with our young women and informed them that a national search for our next head women's basketball coach is underway.

I shared with the team that we will be thoughtful and thorough during the process, and that I am confident we will find a great leader for this program. We are looking for a relentless recruiter, someone who understands our deep meaning of family, someone who understands the Mississippi State culture, and a hungry competitor with an elite work ethic. We want someone who knows the game inside and out and has an innovative skill set.

Mississippi State is a special place that is incredibly attractive because of our student-athletes, because of our community, and because of our success. I have no doubt that we will identify someone who will guide us on our continued path to competing at an elite level on the court, in the classroom and in the community, alongside the most devoted fans in college basketball.

I could not be more proud of our young women's dedication, energy and passion for each other and the Bulldog Family. They are the reason that so many coaches have an interest in this position. We are excited for the next chapter of Mississippi State women's basketball."

Has Vic said anything about Msu or thanking Msu? If so, I haven seen anything. I love Vic and I know there is no good way to say goodbye but his team finding out on Twitter is not right

No I don't think so, at least not at this time. He can thank him later if it comes up, but Cohen's immediate attention should be to the program not the former coach.

I've always felt that's one of our biggest problems at MSU. So many of our fans fall in love with a coach and forget the program. I appreciate what Vic did and it was fun to watch, but I hope he never wins another game because he isn't one of us an more.

No. He doesn’t owe Vic a damn thing.

He can do the ‘thanks to Coach Schaefer for all he did for our program’ when he introduces the next coach.

Not defending Vic but I've never had any respect for someone who accepts another job but is "lured" back his/her current employer with a raise. But that's just me.

If the players found out from anyone other than VIC I will never have any respect for the man. Period. Its not like we are in a pandemic and the entire country is shut down and they were in a hurry to put everything out on twitter......oh wait.

17 those people. That guy did a great job but basically blindsided Cohen and the MSU fans by dealing with UT behind everyone's back. Then skipped town without even talking to his team.

THAT was unprofessional behavior.

We'll never know the truth when it comes to "reported offers" and "unnamed sources". I'm not saying Rosey's reporting isn't spot on, but I do know UT checkbook is a littttttle bigger than ours.

I don't have a problem with anything from Cohen... and not really from Vic either.

But if one was unprofessional, I'd say having a fan base that treated you like a god find out you were leaving by having a picture posted on twitter with your whole family doing the hook em horns... was maybe not too professional. I really hope to god that he at least somehow talked to all of the players first.

According to Twitter, Vic had a conference call with the girls due to the virus restrictions before Cohen had his call with them. Also Vic is going to Austin where he was born and his parents live. He wanted to get back closer to them while they were still living.

Me too. I want to still hold Vic in high regard. I don’t want to learn he is a fake. Really enjoyed his time here.

His players heard rumors the day before but found out on Twitter. That's the truth.

On another message board, there is speculation the contract was done while Aston was still employed, which is also a bad look. That's cruel to her.

I agree with you ...I also know the "praise the lord" signature won't play in Austin. So that part may forever be left in Starkville.

I'm thankful for what he did here and the level he got us to. But not so much that he left but how he left he can now forever more kiss my ***. He's no longer MSU so he's nothing to me anymore.

It will be interesting to see if he can build the fanbase in Austin like he did in Starkville. A lot more people to draw from but also a lot more more **** to do in Austin.

Vic had a great run here, but should have won a Championship. Sure as **** should have, but he choked. He probably would have gotten one for us eventually, but such is life. Time to move on.

No ill feelings (other than choking in the Championship game). His parents live in Austin. They're probably at the end of their lives and he wants to be near. And Austin is a great place to live, particularly if you are making head coach money.

Be shocked if Vic wins a Natty there, but will be happy for him if he should. Suspect the TAMU crowd is feeling just about as bad if not worse about this than we are.

I was really surprised to hear Vic is leaving. He's building a very large house on about 80 acres on the south side of old 82 just past the golf course heading east. He definitely was making decisions based on staying at MSU for the long term until just a couple of days ago (the Mullen antithesis). And to answer your question, no, I don't think Cohen should thank him.

Ain't that the truth. Choke of all chokes. I have a hard time believing he would replicate that team here or in Austin.

I won’t be happy for him. Call me salty. Call me bitter. Call me a hater, but I don’t want him to win a damn thing if he’s not the coach at Mississippi State.

I hope in 5-10 years, he looks back and sees the day he left State for tu as the worst career decision he ever made.

Clearly there is a back story. Trouble in paradise.

Exactly. I've been a coach for 20 years. I told my wife, there's usually the story that is told to the public and then the real story. Not always the case, but seems to be so about 75% of the time. If he didn't tell our kids before that tweet went out from the Texas AD, then I have lost a ton of respect for a man that I had a tremendous amount of respect for.

They may have the attendance, but they won't match the atmosphere....I don't think it's in their culture

I'd never thank an employee for leaving for another job. And I hire and fire about 10 people a week on average.
Vic was great but he chose to leave. Our concern is the program and kids.

This is what I believe is the main reason for leaving. To be closer to aging parents. And let's face it....UT is not a shabby job so things fell into place for him. I don't think there is any dark back story for his decision.

I wish him the best. Especially if this new job has anything to do with living near his parents. If he is able to secure the same salary or better and its a better move personally, who can really blame him? He did a lot of great things here at state.

does anyone think that the virus might have had an effect on him wanting to be back in Texas. I know a lot of people have been thinking of family and everything during these times. I wonder if all of this made him miss being home closer to his parents and isn't his son back in that area now? I could easily see him just a few weeks ago planning to stay in Starkville long term, but then he gets the call from Texas and starts to thinking with all of this he wants to be closer to his family and where he is from. Just a thought. who knows, maybe he and cohen didn't see eye to eye on some things lately and this was just an opportunity to move back closer to home and have cohen out of his hair.
