Both already being ordered by practices in the area and expecting them within a couple of weeks. The 15 minute test can be spun up in the same machine as the on-site flu test setup. The Antibodies test is a finger prick and blood exam, which he also thinks they'll be able to do in house. Pricing isn't finalized, but the number thrown out there seemed reasonable. I really thought the antibodies(you've already had covid and should be good to go) test was further out, but not according to the buddy who is a clinical NP in the Jackson area that this information came from. Just passing along what I was told since it's been so widely discussed lately.

Haven't heard this yet my hospital but good news if true, we can start testing people say you have had it and can go back to work living normal life etc and get the economy going again. Love technology, if true!

I hear the Trustcare clinics in the Jackson area have a nose swab test that provides results in 15 minutes.

Great news. Apparently the new, 15 minute test is much less invasive and less uncomfortable. President Trump said he took both types and that there's a huge comfort difference in the two types.

I too hope we get this soon, but no one is going back to a normal life anytime soon.

What he’s saying is that if you’ve had the virus and now have antibodies and are thus immune to it and immune to spreading it, your life goes back to normal. 1/4 of the people that have it and beat it never even know they had it and there are many more like me I’m sure who think they might have.

It certainly doesn’t put the world back to normal, but is the first steps we can take towards normal instead of getting further and further away how we have been so far

i know what he was alluding to. But if I got a positive inter body test tomorrow, my life would hardly change. I’d feel more comfortable going to the grocery store but that’s about it.

I like the idea of immunity certificates as testing becomes more available.

I have this for my job. I have a certificate showing I have protective antibody titers against several pathogens. If I need to go somewhere that requires immunity to X and I don’t have a protective titer, I get a booster vaccine.

Like you said, maybe something like this can start getting people out of lockdown and working. Then as we moved forward, people end up with a titer certificate or eventually proof of vaccination.

Everyone who has had a common cold thinks that they had it. The differential diagnosis for COVID is very similar to hundreds of colds and viruses which is why most practitioners don't give definitive diagnosis. But anyway, even if this antibody test becomes wildly available and every NP, PA, etc can administer it, it wouldn't change much. The nature of infection for this virus is very poorly understood. Maybe after 20-30 days you would be completely immune and not be infectious.. that would be great. However, the level of uncertainty with the virus would suggest that stay at home orders will still be in place for the foreseeable future.

I think an SPS fark off on exactly how to execute this certificate would be fun. I’d suggest like a Post Malone face tattoo.

Where it could really help is with parents who are socially distancing from grandparents. My mom in law won’t see our kids right now, but if we all knew we had had it... she’d happily watch our kids while we worked. Right now, we are trying both work from home with a 3 and 5 year old and we can’t get **** done.

You could also start to open back up some daycares/schools/restaurants with folks who are over it.

Getting this test is certainly one of the first big steps towards getting back to normal.

Y’all don’t go spreading anything positive right now, and you can’t even mention anything about restarting our lives. We all know we are supposed to stay locked up at home for the next 18 months while the government is paying our bills for us.

Business Insider had an article on this 3 days ago. NBC and BBC both have articles on it. Everyone realizes this could really help.

Somebody is going to make a bajillion dollars with this.
because every large corporation in America (e.g. amazon) is going to pay to have their entire workforce tested, so that they can get people back to work. And they will pay whatever it takes.

You are way underestimating the importance of it

1) if you were confirmed to have the antibodies you could make a great candidate for plasma donation during a time where we have no treatment

2) the more we know about how many people have been exposed to sooner the masses could get back to normal. As long as we sit here with our thumbs up our asses having no clue how pervasive it is aside from epidemiology modeling, life isn't going to change for the better. These models need real data on the denominator before we can make change to policy or better project when this fizzles out and when/if there could be a rebound.

Honestly, it's almost as important as a vaccine if you want a chance at life getting back to normal
for society.

I think there is too much unknown regarding COVID. Being in clinic and seeing just how slow the process was rolling out testing and delegating who receives it, I have very little faith in an antibody test being distributed to the millions that would want it. Even if we could get these tests distributed and get results, we don't fully understand the transmission of the virus to determine if someone has immunity and non-infectious (the contagion factor is different from the flu) so we aren't 100% sure if it'll act like the flu in regards to immunity. Unfortunately, I don't think this will help people return to work. It would be great if it would. I hope I'm way off on this.

I think it depends on identifying the titer correlates of protection. The good news is we have a jumping start for this, like the vaccine work, from SARS-Cov1. Plus, we are getting protective titer numbers from animal vaccine for this virus.

Now how long people maintain protective antibody titers post infection or vaccine is a different story.
