Funny how your biggest fear isnt even close to mine.
Corporations have continually shown they will pocket government cash and not give it directly to all their employees.
Corporations will buy back stocks(which isnt a direct benefit to employees), invest in technology(which isnt a direct benefit to employees), and pay off debts(which isnt a direct benefit to employees).
Hell, corporations have received gobs of money to help get them thru a tough time, and then cut positions!
Why the 17 you would think corporations will benevolently hand out all the money to employees is beyond me.
And no I dont think corporations are evil. I work for a fortune 200 one that's global- I wouldnt do that if i though they were all evil. They arent evil- they are simply a construct to maximize shareholder profits and when they get a huge amount of money, it's often better for shareholders if the corporation spends it on things other than giving it to employees.
Did you even bother read reports on the proposal and how it came to be?
Come the 17 on.
I did read up... That's why I was the first person to layout the proposed details in this thread.
I understand that you are afraid some corporations are going to take the money and give it to shareholders instead of employees. I am willing to admit corporations can be greedy.
Do you understand that I am afraid some people are going to take this free money and come to expect it? Are you willing to admit that people can be lazy?
It's very easy to put regulations on the money you give businesses and tell them how to spend the money. It's impossible to tell people how to spend it. A lot of this government cheese people get is going to go beer, cigs, extravagant car payments, lotto tickets, whatever... We can't regulate how people spend the money.
As necessary as it is to backstop the people in this crisis, I fundamentally believe that it's very hard to give people a source of money and then take it away from them. None of us are going to let people starve if they refuse to go back to work or try to milk the system. But if a corporation breaks the rules we can beat them into submission.... Loan the companies money to pay employees and keep the doors open for a few months.
I know many people feel like that didn't happen last time, but we survived the financial crisis as a country and have been completely repaid plus $120bn in interest and profits from the companies bailed out.
If we give $2trn directly to the people, the only way to get it back is to raise taxes. I would prefer to invest the money into the companies to get this thing turned around asap. If the companies go out of business it's going to take 5 times as long to recover.
