She deleted it because stupid 17ing people were threatening her because she was sick. She basically had pneumonia and was throwing up blood. The scary part was she had gone to an urgent care and they tested her for flu and strep and when both came back negative, they just sent her home.

So then she is officially positive? Throwing up blood sounds like something else entirely.

So stupid that people were threatening her. Previous weekend the urgent care told her she was fine. She felt better so she went to work thinking everything was ok.. Sunday night it hit her. So that’s a week of exposure because the medical facility misdiagnosed her initially.

I wonder how many people she exposed were out this weekend hoarding, potentially exposing more people. This is how it spreads. Hope more people take this seriously. I think my wife finally is.

I believe looking back on this pandemic, our greatest failure will be the lack of rapid tests. Our inability to quickly identify those that are positive like we can with a rapid strep or flu test, is perpetuating this. Makes me wonder if the urgent care even had tests for this virus available?

A major Charlotte area clinic that I am familiar with has 5 test kits. They had ~20 or so patients yesterday that had at least mild COVID-19 symptoms. If we could test everyone with symptoms for SARS-Cov2 like we can flu & strep, then we would have a much better grasp on scope & control. Unfortunately, what do you do when test demand is greater than tests available? That doesn’t touch surveillance testing for asymptomatic family members or other potential exposures if someone does have it.

I feel for this lady, anyone she inadvertently exposed and hope she recovers.

This mentality that it's some sort of failure because every single person can't be tested immediately is the biggest part of the problem and has led to the hysteria. ..the tests can't be developed until the virus is identified and sequenced. This lady was tested..just not for this specific virus. If you look back at the timeline, because China was refusing to allow our scientists into China early on so that we could work on developing a test ...we got most of our data from South Korea and Was the model for the test that we developed in the US....in reality, the tests for this virus have been brought into the process faster than any previous viruses because of the elimination of many of the governmental roadblocks that prevent progress. Compare this response to the H1N1 response. This is being addressed at lightning speed compared to the 10 months that the swine flu lingered.

Someone here was able to decipher through all the BS being spewed by the media and find the truth. Good post

There were tests created and being used but they aren’t very accurate. Even the ones South Korea were using give some false positives and an alarming amount of false negatives.

Throwing up blood is a symptom. My son witnessed someone doing this at Kroger, there are multiple videos online of people doing so too like on the NYC subway. When pneumonia gets really bad, this occurs.
Stay the **** home.

Yes I heard the tests being used in other early countries were giving a greater than 50% fakes positive reading and as the earlier poster said you have to map the virus and bio marker it to get an accurate test created for it.

The WHO was giving out test kits and America turned theirs down in lieu of procuring ours from and American. There were delays with the test. We got a late jump in testing. That’s it in a nutshell.

Yet a lot of people are mad at the government for not accepting tests from China in the beginning. I could have the same success rate since it’s 50/50 odds on being correct.

You could be right. Of course, my opinions may be based on discussions with actual coronavirologist colleagues, our ability to detect coronaviruses already, when sequence data was available, decisions made for developing our own test & other factors.

I will be sure to tell my colleagues they are wrong.

I think her point is that someone created a test and we didnt want tomuse that test (not that we turned down 1.4 million tests). But its also not uncommon for us to try to create our own test. Its just biting us now

This is exactly what happened. We followed our normal protocol, which ended up being not the greatest strategy for this particular outbreak.

Yep. We were trying to come up with a test for it based on you get sick, you come in, get a test, find out if you have it. Sort of like for the flu. Nobody just goes and gets a flu test randomly to see if they have it. Now we see that's not what we needed with this virus. We needed to 1)test as many as possible, 2)quarantine the infected, 3)everyone else socially distance. Since we couldn't do number 1, not all of the people who needed number 2 were identified, and we started number 3 too late. The criticism for the testing is unwarranted. It was just different and we couldn't change course in time.

The one thing the administration did that does deserve some criticism is disbanding the pandemic response team in 2018. I think they are bouncing around and will probably implement some good ideas on helping the economy and people financially, but we still need someone in charge of this telling people and businesses what to do and when to do it to help stop this thing. We needed a clear leader in charge who was prepared and knew what to do. We are at the point where Trump needs to go ahead and use his executive power to put somebody like Fauci in charge, not Pence. Fauci knows what this is and what we should do in terms of the medical and science side of this. Give him some authority to back up what he's been saying.

I’m a microbiologist. In a previous life, i told people to watch the opening to Outbreak & even though it’s really inaccurate....I did something like that. Now I talk to smart people doing that kind of work.

This is fake news that has been debunked. Biden alleged it the other day and got four pinocchios for it. The US didn't refuse test kits. Distribution is prioritized to poorer countries.

People need to stop trusting a slanted media for their information. The politicization of this thing is inexcusable and has gotten to the point of absurdity.

Yes - we (not you and me - a generic we) seem to have become experts at coming up with BS and believing it. The more absurd it seems, the more likely we are to believe it.

I have no clue.

Enveloped viruses, like coronavirus & influenza, typically do not transmit as well in heat/humidity.

SARS-Cov1 showed up in Nov and was gone I’m June, outside of a few lab screwups. MERS showed up when the average temp was over 100, but then didn’t spread too much. The other human coronaviruses cause the cold and we know the general cold seasons.

Each virus is a bit different, but hopefully, this acts like other coronaviruses and slows down as it gets warmer.

No expert, but looking at the infection rate in the Southern Hemisphere tells me it’s not seasonal like flu.

RaiderDawg. Did you take virology under Dr. Joan McCamish? If you didn't IMO you can't claim virology. She was a bear - Only course in Microbiology dept. BS or Masters I didn't make an "A" in. She gave me a "B" and said none of us deserved an "A". At times I wish I didn't know so much microbiology, epidemiology and public health.
