Heads up on tax filing

President of the AICPA sent out an email yesterday, they are expecting the IRS to announce an extension of up to 90 days from the original April 15th deadline. We will probably get the official word sometime this week, possibly even today or tomorrow.

Update: Looks like we're getting until July 15 to pay, but still have to file either a return or an extension by April 15. Seems odd not to just go ahead and extend the filing date too.

That is really odd. I guess the extension will officially stop the penalty and interest until July if that's the case.

They will also have to address any 1st and 2nd qtr estimate requirements as those dates will have passed by July 15.

IRA contributions as well. It was a vague statement, more clarification is definitely needed.
