The things you do to prevent heart disease and obesity are far different than what we have to do
for this and obesity is a choice or hereditary. I assume at this point you are just trolling bc no one could make these arguments seriously.

Just pointing out how experts say one disease is way more deadly and preventable through better choices, heredity is a ******** excuse, and no one takes it seriously.

Nothing wrong with being responsible but still thinking for yourself. This board is full of people posting links and saying it’s gospel because well, the link said so.

Ooh, that accusation touches on a seriously sensitive topic for many here. Getting a little too close for comfort.

Father who has the heart attack at 50 and leaves three obese kids behind with an obese wife and no means to provide for them because he couldn’t get life insurance due the amount amount of food he consumed doesn’t have an impact on others? Obesity is a taught and learned behavior. It’s also a very preventable. If it was prevented, it would free up at least 75% of the hospital beds in this country. Why are you not freaking out about it? It’s way more deadly than coronavirus and flu combined.

This is such an incredibly dumb argument, I can only imagine you paused multiple times while typing to either laugh at the stupidity of it or cry because you had lowered yourself to such a level.

Obesity can be viewed as a pandemic since it has spread across continents/cultures. The difference between obesity and coivid19 is that one is contagious and the other isnt.
Obesity is a mix of genetics(yes, its true) and behavior(yes, its true). Some are obese because of genetics, some are obese because of behavior, and some are obese due to a mix of the two. One person being obese does not hurt others around them.

Now you have taken the argument to the absurd by creating a scenario where someone dies indirectly due to obesity and yes loved ones are affected. But that isnt unique to obesity- loved ones are affected by any death due to any reason(s).

There is a MASSIVE(unintentional wording) push to reduce obesity in this country. Many people have been freaking out and will continue to freak out about it. But again- it is preventable in many situations and is therefore seen, at least in part, as a choice(right or wrongly seen that way).
Nobody is choosing to be infected with covid19.

See the difference?

And if/when the argument turns to 'well why dont we do these extreme measures for the flu?!?!', I will readily admit that I have never understood why so many dont 'quarantine' themselves with the flu. I have worked at the same place for 15 years and have seen the same people come in year after year come in to work when sick and spread their germs everywhere. I have seen the same people for years not wash their hands or not wash them well.
I have no idea why our society gives such a little 17 in practice when it comes to the seasonal flu.

China had MANY more deaths from this than 3100....and no I can't prove it. Have been reading and watching since it started though. Many reports of people dying from pneumonia shipped straight to the cremation facilities with Pneumonia listed as cause of death. This report was from on the ground Chinese. Cremation facilities have been overloaded and running nonstop. There is a reason the Chinese blockaded their own people in wuhan and wouldn't let them out for any reason....and it wasn't to avoid spreading something no more dangerous than the common cold.
I can't prove any of this but certain websites like zero hedge have been posting reports from within china since this began. Reports with actual chinese people with many pictures and video to prove. I would love for all this to be a hoax and to be wrong. I would love to stand up and apologize to the world for being wrong and making people needlessly worry.

And China very likely isn't through it. As soon as people start going about their lives again, it will likely pop back up.

Well sure its good to learn about recent history. A lot of times, we live thru something and think we understand it since we went thru it, only to realize we know little about it.
...but I was commenting on The Bible in that post.

You better watch out....using common sense like that will get you harassed beyond belief on this board ....if you aren't thinking this is worst event in the history of the earth you are just in corona denial....

Common sense? Since when is common sense ignoring advice from experts?

That's the opposite of common sense. Common sense would involve watching what is actually going on in Europe....right now...and understanding it can happen here.

The problem is we have people that dont bother to try and learn or understand what is going on. They actually avoid the information because they are paranoid of "the media".

Again why is a message board about a COLLEGE team so frightened by actual knowledge?

The public reaction to these diseases is

Nowhere near the same and one is much worse than the other. My extreme, but not unrealistic example was just pointing out obesity/heart disease affects other people, yes in different ways than coronavirus affects those around infected people. Yes some people will have heart disease even though they are the picture of health due to genetic reasons, but they are such a minuscule minority of the problem. Most cases happen because over eating. I find the different reactions to the two diseases interesting, comical even, given their relative severity.

Coronavirus: we must immediately change the entire world’s lifestyle!!!! 100 people have died in the US!!! They number may go to 10,000!!!

Heart Disease: Well, take a whole bunch of pills, maybe diet a little, you’re just big boned. hope you’re not one of the 900,000 people that die from heart disease in the US every year.

Didn’t the experts at the CDC say to go about your normal life, just avoid large gatherings? I thought the CDC even advised against closing schools, but I may be wrong on that.

The death rate is not the only metric. Its the hospitalizations for those that dont die. Once the hospital system is overwhelmed the. People with all illnesses are in trouble.

This is true. The docs I work with are freaking out because they are worried they won't have beds for people with heart attacks. Especially rural areas of the state that rely on Jackson hospitals for these services. We've already started canceling elective surgeries in anticipation of what is to come. We've also run out of negative pressure rooms, which is needed for airborne isolation patients.

GET OUT OF HERE WITH FACTS!!! YOU ARE RAINING ON THE DEBBIE DOWNERS PARADE!!!!

The reaction to coronavirus is different because it is airborne. When something is airborne, it becomes a public health issue.

That is exactly what they said. They have also said that the data does not show any real benefit from closing schools. Then again, there IS data that says daylight savings time actually results in more energy use than standard time, yet that was the reason used to expand it and we are about to go to full time.

I’m so confused. Do I only trust the snippet of the expert’s advice if it causes panic? Or am I supposed to head all of the advice?** Whatever, the donut store was open, but not the gym, so I’ll ride it out.

I think you are severely downplaying the reality of Heart Disease/Obesity discussions and reduction efforts. If your hypothetical is at all accurate, then it is almost certainly isolated to that local doctor/area because it is certainly a big deal from what I have seen.

Where have you seen the CDC recommend to "go about your normal life?" I haven't seen that, but either way, I'd argue "go about your normal life but no gatherings over 50 people" is an inherent contradiction anyway. "Normal life" has frequent gatherings of 50 or more people.

As for the schools, you're sort of correct. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/considerations-for-school-closure.pdf That's not exactly advising against it, but it isn't an endorsement of the policy as it currently stands, either. However, my interpretation of that is that they know schools are going to be closed a lot longer than a week or two and just haven't said so yet. That last part is certainly speculation, though.

'a Bible guy'? Interesting way to phrase it.

No.
I didn't think so. But I did notice that you brought it up, apparently when I used the word "gospel", which I was not actually referring to as 'The Gospel', I was simply saying that people believed the links as fact for no reason. You clued in on that to you make your weird point about the Bible/Gospel being sensitive (for no real reason at all). And I get it, you see the actual Gospel the same way.

And you wonder why most posters here hate you? I don't, I think you make some good points from time to time. But you are insufferable with the douchey political stuff (that you actively and intentionally seek out). You may want to stop that.

Or don't, I don't care. Troll on if you wish.

You criticized posters for saying something is true because what they are referencing says its true.
I laughed since that is the same circular reasoning for Biblical historical accuracy- the stories/events are true because they say they are true.
I really didnt pick up on your use of the word 'gospel' so much as your criticism that mirrors Biblical criticism.
